I watched the Friendship Games deleted scenes today and didn't know it had so much Sunset Shimmer in them. She was supposed to have a duet song with Twilight and I liked this version of the song a lot better than the one we got. And Sunset was feeling disconsolate with the world of humans and was thinking about leaving it behind so she can return to Equestria. Stuff like school competitions didn't interest her, she wanted magical adventures fulltime. But most of this was cut out, including the resolution! Which is a shame, this isn't just missed characterization, it's her choice to stay in the world of humans we're talking about, pretty important stuff.

I guess since the movie had an entire school of new characters to introduce some things had to be cut, I understand. But it's still a shame. We missed out on a lot of Sunset Shimmer's journey.

What do you gentlemen think about Friendship Games deleted scenes?

I'm also really disappointed that they cut those scenes, ESPECIALLY the duet at the beginning fuck that would have done so much for Sunset's character.

But, I could understand the 'why' given the whole movie was pretty busy introducing Scilight at the same time. I would love for a reprise of that duet to be done someday though and, bottom line is, really hope they DO take the ideas from it and put it into a full movie where it can get the attention/characterization it deserves.

Who is Sunset Shimmer's best friend?

Princess Twilight is a strong candidate, being the one to show her out of the darkness in the first place and having a journal that lets her keep in constant contact. The fact that they also share being students of Celestia is a close tie and their scenes together in RR were strong indicators there's a lot of trust for each other. However, Twilight being so distant all the time in Equestria makes it hard to say if they can be 'best' friends if they aren't with each other frequently.

Scilight is of course another possibility, this time the situation reversed with Scilight needing Sunset's guidance and help more than the other way around, and they often are paired together all the more often. Though I think Scilight needs Sunset a lot more than the other way around, I'm not sure I've ever seen Scilight give meaningful advice or interaction to Sunset.

That leaves someone among the Humane 5 and, IMO? I'd say it would be Applejack. The two are paired together more often than not when the group splits up like seen in the specials, she's the only one not to flip her shit at her in RR when the others do, and in FG after Sunset fucks up by getting to angry at Scilight, she's the one to give her decent advice and make amends after the game.

Even with them being pen pals I just can't see Princess Twilight as her best friend. PT showed up a couple times to fight evil but then quickly goes back to her own world. The humans spend tons of time with Sunset, like proper friends. So, I think her best friend would have to be one of the humans.

They have, for lack of a better term, sempai relationship. Sunset is the older student but Twilight is the more accomplished one. Both share concerns about expectations in RR that shows they have fears of letting down their peers in common. Twilight eventually sees an anchor in Sunset to keep her grounded when the pressures of the situation nearly get to her and Sunset aspires to be more like Twilight.

In the first movie this was addressed in a very unhealthy way with Sunset's jealousy of everything Twilight had and was leading her to try and steal it for herself, but in Friendship Game onwards I think she tries more to emulate her instead to achieve a similar level of respect and friendship for herself. We haven't seen Princess Twilight in EqG in a while but we know she still offers advice through the book, but sadly I think their relationship has become more distant as Twilight becomes more busy in the show. Twilight's role in EgG has largely been taken over by Scilight, to whom Sunset is the inspiration to instead.
