The tent to try to do this all at once since selloffs tends to drive down prices and they could lose out if they wait too long.

Also, if you are super big, you can manipulate a favorable position by doing a large selloff, triggering the drop by yourself, which will drag in others that don't want to lose money. Then you can buy the stock back at the depressed price before it bounces back so you have the stock you had before with a small profit besides.
