One makes an honest and transparent effort to change while the other continues to fuck up the same way over and over. On top of that, one wanted to try to rule the world and gave up when she couldn't make it so, admitting her fault. The other was such an egomaniac and sociopath that she would rather see EVERYTHING GONE from current existence than lose a dumb fight and admit to being wrong. The final issue is one fucks up the main story and steals the spotlight too often from the original main characters while the other IS the spotlight of a spinoff.

Shimmer's design is nicer, and she seems incredibly down-to-earth. They are being written very similarly, but Glimmer had more mental baggage because the show had more time, but it was weird how the show was handling it, played it off more as plot devices and for jokes. Shimmer on the other hand is generally handled sincerely with her previous issues.

Glimmer's also more forced feeling, which is a bullshit term to say, but like another anon said her character changed rather quickly from villain to goodie, but then she became front and center among established characters. EqG was a completley new spinoff, Shimmer's established from the start, so while we shouldnt hate Glimmer just for being thrust into the spotlight, it's still a little jarring.

Glimmer this season has been fantastic though, but i hated her last season and when she was a villain.

When one character is several orders of magnitude more popular than the other, and yet it's the "unpopular" character that is getting screentime everywhere, while the "popular" character is barely seen anymore, people tend to resent it, like, a lot.

The internship IS the punishment. She's WORKING for the better of equestria. This is not just some "sit there and get paid" type crap, shes' putting everything that she is into helping the world: Look at to where and back again and how she saved equestria, or how she's going to be vital to diplomatic relations between the changelings and the Dragons, or how she's going to be vital to fixing the problems caused by the friendship journal in the upcoming episode.

She's literally doing labor to work off her sentence, this like being upset that someone was sentenced to pick up trash on the road.

Yeah, becoming the student of a princess, getting your own room in a castle, having all your meals made for you by a chef, your room cleaned by maids (probably, royal people usually have maids and chefs) and having a party thrown for you and given a medal by Celestia for not even defeating Chrysalis, Thorax did, and still acts like an angsty twat. Yeah, that sounds so bad.
Meanwhile, Sunset helped defeat the sirens, defeated Midnight Sparkle, both who wanted to harm Equestria, and helped defeat Gloriosa yet she gets no medal or even a thank you note from Celestia. She has to live alone in a one room studio apartment, has a job to support herself, goes to school, keeps magic from fucking up Earth, pays for and makes all her own food in a microwave that she probably scavenged from a dumpster, was treated as a pariah until she redeemed herself, can't even afford an umbrella and does it all with a smile.
