Problem with this:
- that was the plot and was never used since, like Luna being a kid
- the pony who said that (Twilight) admitted that she and ponies didn't know what the hell they were taking about when it came to dragons
- dragon biology is not known by ponies period
- Garble stated that a dragon Spike's size would have just been out of the egg but we know he's been around a lot longer: meaning Spike is runt that doesn't matching his physical age group
- long lifespan doesn't mean a slower growth rate
- Spike's history has him the same size a 1000 years and a 1000 his size in just a day: so size =/= age with him
- if Spike was a baby then Twilight and the ponies would be in a heck of a lot of trouble wouldn't they (with labor and care laws), not to mention not trying to get Spike back to his proper mother
