I was weirded out by FS in that episode, but rewatching it did bring out much more

And these words are strong, I believe that's strongest way they could've 'shipped them' without actually showing them as a couple
I'm kind of sad that it also means that we'll never see them kissing or telling they love each other, but it was really nice nonetheless

It's done in such a retarded way. It seems like they still follow some of Faust's guidelines for the show which would include no romance for the main characters. But because the writers seem to have become fond of the Discord/Fluttershy relationship, they write around this by keeping them as close friends and don't breach the actual romantic subject.

It comes off as weird and pathetic from Discord's end where he's the "nice guy" stereotype who is completely emotionally dependent on someone who doesn't feel the same way. It worked with Spike in season 1 because he was a kid crushing on an older girl, but it's just fucking wrong with Discord. It takes away a lot from his character and makes him incredibly unlikable. The writers need to seriously discuss the relationship between them because it can't stay the way it is. There needs to be an actual confirmation of romantic interest or a step back showing that Discord being obsessed with Fluttershy isn't part of a healthy friendship. Right now it just feels like the writers are trying to get away with some sort of inside knowledge of a wanting cute relationship between them but never being allowed to fully commit to it.

I don't think there is any estethic reason to not ship them other than Meghan not being sure if a mane6 character being canonically in love woudn't ruin the pace of the series.

I think Show staff is aware that Fluttercord is a thing and little girls ship them and they also ship tease them on purpose. The main reason why it isn't canon yet is probably because they want to make a bigger event out of it. Either a two parter finale or entire movie. Something as big as turning Twi into alicorn since it will permanently change Discord and Fluttershy a characters.
