To some degree, yes. Then again, so much of what I fell in love with was what was left unsaid - only hinted at or shown in the background.

The problem now is that more and more what they show of her is actively contradictory not just to her earlier portrayal, but to the world at large. Each successive issue only raises more questions that can't be solved by theorizing and headcanons; they fester and linger, fundamentally undermining the plots that they drive.

Celestia, as she was initially written, meshed well with the world because she was written as part of it. The problem is that the new writers have really moved on in what they want to show - but she kind of still hangs around, and they don't know how to integrate their vision with the rest of the setting and her initial portrayal. The result is a sloppy mess of contradictions and plotholes.

My headcanon is that when the ponies evolved sentience they became no longer subject to estrus, by the same mechanism that humans are the only primates not subject to estrus. There's a lot of evo-psych guessing about how this came to be--maybe it was disruptive and disadvantageous in the context of cooperation among the males of a tribe-sized group, but no one really knows--but maybe something similar happened to the ponies and the mares no longer either get strong urges when they're ovulating nor advertise it by courtship displays or pheromones.

Alternately, estrus is still part of their biology but due to the possible inconvenience it can bring, methods hormonal, magical, and otherwise have been created to suppress and control it, sort of like the way birth control became widespread in the West over the past half-century or so.

Either way I imagine that the Princesses, because they know their subjects put them on a pedestal halfway to godhood, and view them as "pure" and above such things, have means the others might not to suppress their own estrus and libidos, perhaps with rare and powerful magic.

Perhaps they are even very lonely, and have the instinctive desire for a partner who can be their equals--but who can be the equal of a Goddess? Perhaps it's lonely at the top.

I have no idea what the journal says. I always preferred Celestia and Luna being alicorns always. And that as super powerful alicorns they became rulers due to ability. If unicorns used to use their magic to manipulate the sun/moon it just saves time and energy to have them do it. My headcanon, which I've borrowed from a number of stories from different writers, was that Celestia and Luna were born sisters, but not born alicorns.

Celestia was a tall and slightly goofy-looking pegasus. Luna was a petite little unicorn.

They were born to the nobility but lived long and varied lives before a group of powerful unicorns magically converted them into unicorns, to defeat Discord. Celestia, having been born a pegasus, in an era when aristocrats were warriors, was a soldier herself, long ago. First in her nation's army, then, during the wars of unification, when her city-state fell, as a mercenary, as so many dispossessed nobles IRL did. Even after she was made an alicorn she wandered the world, her shape and status hidden. She was what we might think of as a priestess, though ponies do not have religion as we would understand it. She was a wise-woman and herb-witch, a midwife and healer. Only after centuries of this did she and Luna come into positions of power and seek to unify a fractured world--all of this centuries and centuries before Nightmare Moon. Celestia and Luna are thousands of years old and have had very varied and eventful lives.

There are humanized pony pr0n threads in /trash/ from time to time, and you see bizarre anatomical impossibilities in every one--and not just with Sunbutt. Every pony they draw has enormous helium-filled zeppelins stuck to her chest, a waist like an ant or wasp, and then a gigantic bubble-butt. They look like they were drawn deliberately to be caricatures.
