Why doesn't the show do physical slapstick anymore?

Because it's stupid. Just look at how much people get mad every time Spike gets the slapstick treatment.

Because it never fit the show and was already out of place in Feeling Pinkie Keen

Because it's not LORE or WORLDBUILDING enough and takes precious seconds of screentime that could - no, *should* - instead be used to further our understanding of the deep, intricate My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic universe. Also 'jokes' are hard to understand because they require the viewer to understand non-verbal social cues, so they just make everyone here confused and angry instead.

Something something something bees, something something tendies please. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA it's funny because it rhymes, the words rhyme. I notice this, it is funny.

These anons get it.
Remove the jokes. We need more worldbuilding and DEEPEST lore. Also replace the slice of life episodes with more epic adventures and fight scenes for the mature audience of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic.

You know what would make MLP:FIM better? If they got rid of the dumb 'friendship is TOTALLY AWESOME' lies, because I don't understand or agree with being nice to people and my only social interaction comes from spending sixteen hours a day in front of a screen talking about things I hate and the media I consume. Anyway they should show us how unicorn horns work and how they learn spells, and all the different levels of spells and how much work they need to cast spells. Also they should show how they invent new spells, and it should be animated by South Park

"Slapstick" is considered violent and sends the wrong message to children.
If you are teaching children that violence is funny what is stopping the next mass shooter who was indoctrinated into the cult of violence thru cartoons?
We need more kind, tolerant and happy cartoons, and far less of these violence spewing propaganda machines.
We could use some of the ideas Europe has, the television can be a dangerous tool if used improperly, that is why they require licences over there, and inspections of what is being shown.

slapstick was always the most obsolete basic form of humor that was first introduced when first animation in history made a stick figure falling on the banana peel.

We're now better than this. We have storytelling and actual characters. We can make situational comedy or a comedy based on just dialogs. Even puns like "Piniatas hates bats" its more clever than shitty slapsticks.
>>
>>30622089
You could actually apply some argument as to why it is not shit other then just posting a gif.
>>
>>30622142
and why would i do that? what are the odds someone who simply posts "its shit" is interested in a dialogue? about none.
id prefer to hear them state why they think its shit before i put any effort into it.

tldr; that gif is a low effort reply to low effort posts

>letting someone shit on something without being challenged

this is the main problem I feel of this board and most of if not all of 4chan, most feel as if when they see something they disagree with or dislike are afraid to announce their opinion with fear of being a sperg or fear of retribution.

What people fail to realize is that you are anonymous on 4chan and you can say whatever and whenever you want without any consequences for your actions.
>>
>>30622201
Looks like I was wrong. Or was I considering in this specific instance you didn't put effort in? Mostly I'm just projecting previous experiences, so sick of wasting all this energy on brick walls of autism.
>>
>>30622215
>An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind.

Nice quoting Mahatma Gandhi
>>
>>30622237
Uhh... Thanks probably? Not enough cues for me to tell if that's an insult, compliment, or observation.
>>
>>30622226
this is usually true for positive things said about the show since trolls give no fucks and are actually out to shit on everything rather than have discussions.
however, it can also happen for people who genuinely dont like something for their own reasons but get lumped in with the trolls for it.

you can usually avoid this by making it clear you feel its your own opinion, not an objective fact, and then supporting it with your reasoning.
>>
>>30622246
It was a compliment I never heard that variation of the quote before, I have only heard an eye.
>>
>>30622253
I wish dude. 4/4 of the times I've tried I just get direct insults instead of progression in the discussion.
>>
>>30622261
Ha thanks then, can't remember where I originally heard it from.
>>
>All this hate on slapstick
Damn. I can understand growing tired of excessive slapstick, but you're serious telling me you've never enjoyed physical comedy? Twilight getting cartoonishly flattened when Spike slams open the basement door in Feeling Pinkie Keen? Pinkie's "Rarity catch me!"? Twilight closing the door on Fluttershy when she tries to run from Luna?

Did you guys not like Ed, Edd, n Eddy growing up? Or...most cartoons ever?
>>
>>30622281
Yup. "rarity catch me" was funny because of pinkie making that decision, not because of the slapstick. Same with twilight closing door, funny because she made that choice, not because flutters got slammed. I don't get the appeal.
>>
>>30622310
Wouldn't making the decision to do those things be intrinsically tied to doing those things?
>>
>>30622281
>no other cartoon will employ as much funny sound effects as ed, edd, n eddy did
>>
>>30622324
Yup, but I'm saying what makes it funny is the decision, not the consequence.
>>
>>30622340
The decision is part of the slapstick. It wouldn't make much sense if a character decided to do something with no indication of what the decision was. Slapstick incorporates the logic, or lack thereof, behind the extreme physicality of the joke. It's not just "The character got hit in the face with a pie", it's "Why did the character get hit the face with a pie?"; it's "The character got hit in the face with a pie in a situation where he certainly shouldn't have."
>>
>>30622281
Cartoons that have slapstick are the reason why cartoons aren't taken seriously as an art form.
>>
>>30618060
This.
A lot of people like to hate that episode because of its botched lesson, but this is also among the problems of that episode that people overlook. The slapstick felt really out of place and it wasn't even funny. Like, since its so out of place for Twilight to be subject to slapstick comedy, you assume that it's supposed to be real. That's why it's not funny.

However, Pinkie can get away with some slapstick comedy because it's established in her character.
>>
>>30622365
And I completely agree with you on this. But that's not what slapstick is https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slapstick

Guess that's enough images. My point being, there' still slapstick, that hasn't changed. What's changed is that you won't see anvils falling on ponies head's anymore, because the show followed more Looney Tunes-like physics back in season 1 (see Twilight catching fire when angry or drinking hotsauce, or Pinkie's Pepe Le Pew hopping after RD in GTBO), as part of the standard "season 1's tone was off" that every series has.
>>
>>30622435
Most people seem to love the song more than anything else in that episode desu, might just be nostalgia.
>>
>>30617994

It was never the show's strong point, and most of the characters don't really have the personality for effective slapstick.

The only characters that can really pull off effective slapstick are Pinkie and Discord. It's just painful to watch otherwise.
>>
>>30623230
>season 1's tone was off
Memes must have melted your brain, because that goofy Looney Tunes wild-take slapstick should have been the default setting.

To sort of reinforce that yes, this is still a children's show, primarily for consumption by literal actual-factual children, and not brain-broken infantile adults in desperate need of emotional crutches.
>>
A durrrrr slapstick is too low-brow for my sophisticated tastes, says the shut-in who masturbates to cartoon character pornography and spends all day screaming at people on 4chan, defining himself by stuff he hates and the media he consumes. Ha ha, it's the frog picture again
>>
The man draws back his lip in a sneer. Spike ... pushed into the background of a scene AGAIN?! Some shit about 'friendship' blah blah today's lesson blah blah why don't they show any MALE characters, this is very disrespectful. Time to microwave some energy drinks and get on Twitter, this could be a long one...
>>
>>30623815
I think memes have melted YOUR brain, since you responded to meme-free discussion of show tone by mentioning memes and man-children. I didn't say there was anything better or worse about one style of slapstick, I was just stating that the semi-standard tone for the show wasn't established until season 2, which is the case for most shows.

I usually follow it up with asking how I can look at it to make sense or like thing afterwards. I want to like the show, but if something is just out there or makes no sense for the show then I'll try and say something.
