Saw this in the merch thread. I don't know if it'll be in the movie, it's not in the trailer, but this is the first time we can finally see her pirate outfit. And it looks great.

It really does look great. A return to form in many ways.
Lately most outfits we see in the show are exaggerated to the extreme with more accessories and embellishment than sense. The art of "less is more" is completely lost on most visual designs, especially so Rarity's abominations. Griffons are pretty much the only exception here, who go for one long flowing accessory each, at most.

The pirate outfit is maybe a biiiiit too much still, like the wings on the goggles in combination with a scarf, but that's mostly nitpicking on my end. I like the metal bangle in particular.

Anniversaries happen every year. Nothing in the episode implies that she has an age divisible by 5. The "animation convenience" is the closest to a canon we have, and there were 21 candles. If you want to think that she's younger, and you want to feel bad about it, it's your business. As far as I'm concerned, she was born on February 1, 1993.

Alternatively, we could read this to mean Dash was a few years short of 18 back in S1. She is after all almost certainly the youngest of the mane6, so if Word of God says "young adult" in the passing, we should probably take that as the average age of the mane6.

As you see, this all fits together very nicely, and those 2-3 years that would have passed in canon between S1 and now are perfectly accounted for if Dash is 20.
Pinkie Pride deals with a special birthaversary, but I guess you're right, they could ALL be special to Pinkie. 21 years is fine, and the numbers you yourself cited, 18+3, works as my citation.

So I've been reading the prose version of mobius' and there have been a few small things that have irked me about it, but two (Or three) major things about the story. First and foremost, I almost dropped the story the moment Cash talked mad shit about the wonderbolts and how she would give them up for Anon during their FIRST TIME. I understand emotions are wild during something like that, but the fact that she was willing to drop her dream for some guy she met what, 7 months-ish prior to that moment made me almost drop the story at that sentence. I understand Dash is loyal and like we do has probably fantasized things about Anon while waiting to make a move, but that is a level of obsession that goes beyond what I think is any sort of reasonable for someone in a sane state. For her to be willing to give up her life's dream and goal for a guy who's only been around for such a short time is just unbelievable. That was my biggest gripe. Second on the list is the description of the affectionite and intimate licking. Mobius writes it in a style that makes it sound like the slobbering of a dog and it rips me right out of a moment that could be very sweet or intimate. It should be something lighter, softer, more delicate, and precise rather than A freeforall of passion. It loses everything by describing the furver and sloppyness of it all. A good example of something in the same vein done right is the spice and wolf short from season 2 where in a dream the main female lead meets the male lead in a field and gently leans up and in to nuzzle his nose, barely touching but enough to show the delicatness of their love and the importantness of the symbol of their

Intimacy. I love the idea of a small, soft, and delicate lick on the lips for compassion but it ended up being written in too much and made too sloppily. The third gripe would be the fact that the ponies a little too dog-like in a lot of ways but that's a preference thing and it didn't ruin moments for me like the other two things.

That being said, I hope he writes more for it if he had any plans to and I do look forward to reading more.

Interesting comments about Mobius' fic. I agree that some more delicate intimacy moments would have been nice, but I don't think they're inherently superior. I can dream of tasting her saliva and exploring every corner of her body. I can dream of resting with her, with no other movements or sounds than those of our quiet breathing. Both passion and intimacy are just different ways to show affection, and I don't think either is purer. IMO, this is one of those "why not both?" scenarios.

Dash's loyalty is a fascinating subject. She's proved several times that being loyal is more important for her than her self fulfillment. Which leads to the question, how and when would that loyalty kick in? And a gloomy question, could it backfire? There was this awful forced meme months ago, thank goodness it was quickly forgotten, about Dash being trapped in an abusive relationship because of her loyalty. I think it's utterly stupid, even if she was somehow fooled into being loyal to a jerk, which I doubt, it's impossible that she was tricked to stop being loyal to her friends, they would help her, and she would trust them. That's why I fucking hate MMDW2 with all my soul. Dash isn't flawless, she makes mistakes, and she needs her friends. To think that her friends could prefer to plan a petty revenge against her instead of solving things out makes me sick. That's also why I loved Parental Glideance, seeing her parents supporting her even when she was a cunt to them means that she'll never be alone, it was a huge relief.
I don't know if this is whiteknighting or "ownership and control", but I wish I could be there for her, being loyal to her, so she would never have to choose between chasing her dreams or being loyal to me.

I'm sure none of us nrdt excluded would look to ask Dash to give up her dream, but the fact that she was so quick and willing to say she would for Anon is crazy to me. She loves her friends and none of the elements perfectly follow their element, so I feel like it's over the top and unneeded to prove her loyalty to Anon and I guess it's just me being triggered by something that seems unrealistic and insane.

She was shown to be rational and not fully and perfectly in sync with her element when she chooses her ponyville friends over gilda. While it's one loyalty over another, you could say she is also loyal to her teammates and loyal to her dream.

Who is Dash's best friend? I assume the choice would be between Fluttershy and Applejack. On one hand you have the childhood friends who understand one another and while they aren't into the same things, they can appreciate what the other sees in those things. They've talked and probably shared secrets and their feelings and other personal information since they were fillies.

On the other hand you have another pony somewhat like Dash in terms of competitiveness and physical ability who shares a lot of the same opinions as Dash so they probably see eye to eye a lot more.

For me, I think Fluttershy would be a close friend than AJ, not to discredit the similar interests they share. I just think if Dash ever needs the emotional support after bottling things up so long, Fluttershy would be there and open for her. While having similar interests is important to friendship, I think the ability to be open with yourself and your friend is a much more valuable asset.

It's definitely not Applejack, they get along and share a competitive spirit, but that's pretty much the gist of it. They don't share a lot of interests or mindsets otherwise, either, and they even prefer different types of competitive sports. Aside from flying, Dash goes for jousting, fencing, martial arts, etc., fast-paced high-dexterity sports, while Applejack goes for rodeo and slower-paced feats of strength or endurance.
For them, it's a friendly "me VS you" relationship.

As you say, Fluttershy and Dash are very close, and have been for a long time, sharing secrets and being there for each other come hell or high waters. But friendship, too comes in different forms, and I'd say Dash and Fluttershy are more akin to family members with different interests than friends sharing a common interest. Seeing how Dash and Fluttershy's family interact with each other, Dash might as well be an extra member on that family. They rarely see eye-to-eye on things, and Fluttershy is usually content to look up to Dash, while Dash sees Fluttershy as more of a delicate thing that needs protection and guidance. "You go ahead and do your amazing tricks, I'll watch here from the ground and cheer you on".

That said, I'd actually nominate Pinkie as Dash's best friend. They share many similar personality traits and get along like a house on fire, from wild partying to pranks, they often hang out doing crazy stuff, and have a good understanding of how the other sees the world. These two DO see eye to eye, on an equal level, without competitiveness, because when Pinkie and Dash hang out it's them versus the world (or whomever is the victim of their next prank).

If I can make the distinction, I'd say Fluttershy and Dash are the closest of friends, but Dash probably spends more time and enjoys her time spent with Pinkie more, at least on a surface-level. Pinkie would join Dash when they go see a horror movie, Fluttershy wouldn't. Pinkie would happily get drunk in Canterlot with Dash, Fluttershy wouldn't, but when Dash needs comfort or when her crippling insecurities get the best of her, or just need a moment to catch her breath, Fluttershy is always there.

I don't think that's even implied, aside from the obvious fact Dash is almost always airborne or is subconsciously drawn to the point of highest elevation (her near-constant hovering, standing on rail posts while her friends stand on the ground, walking on the elevated rail while her friends walk down the stairs, perching on roof beams, high windowsills etc.).

I wouldn't say that implies a fear however, more a personal (or perhaps even racial?) subconscious preference for such locales.

I'm actually in the process of doing just that right now, I intend to rewatch the entire show before I catch up with S7. But you know. Sucks being an adult with adult responsibilities and adult duties.
I see where you're coming from, and I agree that's the main nagging point in their relationship. But from what I see the implication is more that when Dash's batteries run out and she needs to come down from the rush for a while, Pinkie is still on it as she's damn near inexhaustible. It's not so much "Dash puts up with her", it's more "Dash enjoys her time 100% with her, but when Dash wants to call it a night Pinkie insists they have another go".

Nowadays, I'd say Pinkie is the one who's grown into the relationship more, and knows when Dash wants to call quits, and unlike before she actually respects that usually (unspoken) decision now.

This is one of my favorite pics. It's inspired by the ending of Sleepless in Ponyville.

It's night at Winsome Falls. It's a forest, everything is dark and colorless. There are only trees on sight, and some mist fades into a cold background. Rainbow Dash is at the center of the frame. Right next to her, at her right, is Scootaloo. Both ponies are bright and colorful, and they make a big contrast against the woods. They're sitting on their hind legs and hugging each other. Scootaloo hugs Dash with her front legs, while Dash wraps Scootaloo with her right wing and holds her tight. Scootaloo nuzzles her head against Dash's, so intensely that Dash had to close her right eye. Dash's left eye is still open, and her huge pupil is staring at Scootaloo, with the most loving look you can imagine. Dash smiles as much as she can, even with the filly's head pushing her muzzle. Scootaloo's smile is even wider. We can only see her right eye, and it's closed but curved upwards, showing her happiness. She's soaking wet, she fell to the river not long ago and Dash rescued her. Small drops of water are falling from her mane and coat. One those drops is next to her eye. Maybe it's just more water from the river, maybe it's a tear of happiness because the pony she loves the most finally noticed her. It's a beautiful pic. I hope you can imagine it, Anon.

My pleasure Anon. I'm sorry if the text ended up being too cumbersome at some points, I'm not used to write this kind of things. I would like to give you another pic.

This pic is set after Parental Glideance, the episode where we met Dash's parents. The pic emulates a videocamera viewfinder, with a battery icon in the top left corner and the text "REC" with a red circle at the top of the frame. The scene happens outside Windy and Bow's house, a cloud house. It serves as the background of the pic, and it's blurry because it's out of focus.

There was this scene in the episode, when she and her husband are attending the Wonderbolts show, she's wearing a funny hat with Dash's face, ears, and Dash's mane. It's a big hat and it covers entirely Windy's mane, and with her blue coat, her magenta eyes, and the hat with Dash's mane, and Windy almost looks like a version of Dash with freckles.

She's super cute. And her husband is a very attractive stallion. It's not a surprise that their daughter is the most beautiful pony in all of Equestria.

Same, I love those two episodes. I'm really disappointed that Daring Don't will be a Dash and Pinkie episode, it doesn't make any sense to have Pinkie instead of Twilight in a Daring Do episode, and there's another Pinkie and Dash episode later this season. Such a wasted opportunity.

Hi Anon! People who like this cutie are always welcome here. However, I highly recommend you to lurk more on the board, so you know what you can expect, and what you're supposed to say. For example, people here don't use "brohoof" unironically any more, and a comment like yours is usually replied to with generic "fuck off"s, because it would pass off as a trolling attempt.
Also, this place is different from other parts of the fandom. For example, many people in threads like this are waifuists, which roughly means that we not only like Rainbow Dash (or other ponies in other threads), we actually love her in a romantic manner. It's hard, you'll need a lot of practice, and your first drawings will look awful. I've been drawing for more than two years and I still draw like shit. But don't give up before even trying. Some artists started drawings thanks to pony, you could be one of them, and you'll never know if you don't try it.

The original pitch for Dash was basically "Lauren Faust's impression of and headcanon for Gen1 Firefly", from all accounts we've been given, originally "Dash" was a brave, loud, hyperactive pony with a devil-may-care attitude but who's still always there for her friends. That's the original pitch, what she was originally planned as.

Most of that got refined into the final version of Dash, some of it (the devil-may-care attitude in particular, "anypony know where one could find a cannon at this hour?") turned into Scootaloo (largely thanks to Meghan, who essentially was given a carte blanche to create the CMC), and both characters got greatly expanded with other traits in order to give them depth.

In Dash's case, her occasional bouts of moodiness (especially when she's outperformed) and insecurities came as a direct and natural result of the backstory they gave her later in development. From what we've seen, the original character concept DIDN'T have character flaws like these (and why would she? A little girl playing with her toys wouldn't care about having a well-rounded character, someone pitching the first concepts of a character wouldn't bother with a complex backstory).

Unlike for example Pinkie, who flickered back and forth between being a pegasus and an earth pony and had different jobs, skills and hobbies at different stages of production (Party planner as her main job was an early pitch, obviously that didn't make a whole lot of sense for such a small town as Ponyville, hence part-time baker), Dash's character progression seems very straightforward and obvious.

While that could be interesting if it was properly developed, and it would give us a chance to see other places we would never see otherwise, I feel that "she flies off to be alone" could also came off as a cheap attempt to give her depth. Maybe it could even end up looking childish.
I think that the insecurities that >>30690600 mentioned are a much better choice for her personality. Not only they can have a better backstory, they can also be overcome, and in principle, talentless writers aside, it's way more interesting to fight an insecurity than a generic "I want to be alone because reasons."

Something interesting about this. The vector of the box is cropped, and in the missing part of the drawing, Dash is wearing a ring on the wing. It doesn't seem practical at all, but she looks even more badass.

I'm finding that finishing a story is the most difficult part, as it has to justify the story's existence in the first place. I'm kind of in a place of write, delete, rewrite at the moment. I'm not sure if the song is accurate. Dash has fears, and her biggest fear is the fear of failure. Her fear never stopped her, and that's what I admire in her, but I don't think her cockiness has anything to do with it. Which is ironic, because I like her cockiness as is, even if it serves no purpose, and a song about accepting the flaws tries to convince us that that quirk is actually positive and she /needs/ it to be better. I felt it a bit hypocritical, flaws are what makes you yourself, not what makes you perfect. The song was great though.
