Have you noticed how many previously happy pony fans suddenly flip into angsty cynics? I've seen it time and time again, and even two of my friends went full emo for a year or two before recovering.
My theory is that while the genuine happiness of MLP provided people alternative for the misery of the mainstream culture, it left them no outlet for negative thoughts until eventually they just flipped and assumed the gloominess as their new identity.
Digibrony is a great example of this. He made a lot of upbeat episode reviews which were nice to watch because he found positive sides even from episodes I hadn't liked. But then, he redrew his pony avatar in crayon, started smoking because "I know it's unhealthy but so what?" and started talking more about his tragic life events that paralleled the episodes. He has since removed the emo videos, but it was an odd switch of style indeed.
I myself started enjoying fluffy abuse at one point, until it got retarded into the childish justice fantasy it is today. What are your thoughts on the sudden emo phenomenon?

I would take into account how old they were when they got into the ride.
Mid/late Teens are usually the age where people fall for that.
In the case of Digibroni i assume he wanted to be controversial. How old is he now?
