Last time on Soul Quest:

Alexis had a brief but interesting conversation with the High Shaman of the Tainted, Master Grak, and tried to convince him to release Kachina as he inquired about the ponies she traveled with. Upon negotiations reaching no where, Alexis challenged the Shaman to single combat, to which he accepted and escorted her to an arena, where she now faces a Doomed Bear among a crowd of battle-hungry Goblins. Things were looking rough until she activated her Glavo...

Meanwhile, Aether and Pain and MMM had taken a boat to the shores of Ogre Island and using the expert stealth skills provided by the Feline Ilo, were able to infiltrate the place with no cause of alarm and even coerce a captive Goblin they found to tell them the way into the Shaman's inner-sanctum. Moving past guards and new Tainted called Trolls, they found their way to his massive cauldron room, where he was absent, and then found their way up to what is certainly his private study...

As you push your hoof to the ground, the cracks spread and widen underneath the bear, who looks down in confusion as it begins to glow. In a sudden burst of pressure, the water explodes upwards from the base of the bear, sending it flying upwards into the air as it roars and flails. The water sprays out over the entire arena, dowsing the audience with buckets full of excess water as they cover themselves with their hands, as does the Shaman, who stares down as the bear comes crashing down from above hard onto the floor of the arena, shaking it slightly.

He stares at you, "Glavo..." he says almost reverently, almost jealously. "So, you can use Anima just like Kachina? I shouldn't have expected different... how I have longed to wield that power for myself." He grins, "Well, I suppose I do now... in a roundabout way." He shouts at the bear, "Get up! Finish her!"

The Doomed bear shakes its head, trying to steady itself along the wet stone floors after its fall, and moves to charge at her once more [1d10+1: 2 + 1 = 3]

You two decide to leave the Cauldron Chamber, given the evident lack of a Shaman within, and explore the nearby tunnels. As you duck and weave from more of the occasional patrols, you eventually seem to come across an area of note. Turning into one of the many hollowed out parts of the tunnel-halls that contain housing, you come across what seems to be a very expansive study, the kind that would appear to be belonging to a wizened individual such as a Shaman. It also appears to be part lab, with a large alchemy set on one side of the room, a miniature cauldron on the far-side, and a writing desk at the other.

Upon the writing desk is a letter, only half written with the quill suck in its inkwell, and though it is empty it seems very clearly to be the Shaman's own personal collection of notes and information. There is a door to this hollow that you can close for privacy / to avoid on-coming patrols.
>>
>>30589228
>>30589153

>Market shuts the door as they enter, looking to Aether, "Aether, you're a student, check for any magic-y stuff in that writing desk and read the note."
"What should I do with the cauldron over here Market?"
>"Eh if it's got anything in it, dump it out. We're gonna trash his office."
The two go apart quietly putting the office into disarray as they look it over for clues and such, leaving the desk to Aether.
>>
>>30589228
"WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!?" she shouts, sitting on her knees as she sees the massive geyser throw the bear into the air. She looks down at her right hoof in shock.

>"D-did I do that?"

She quickly raises her arm as she sees the bear charging her again, setting her left palm against her right wrist. A rotating orb of water appears in her right hoof, which quickly shoots out a blast of fire-hose pressure water.

[1d10+1]
>>
>>30589228
>>30589242
Upon entering the study and seeing all the scholarly beauty in it, her eyes widen and twinkle.

"This is great, amazing, serendipitous! So much... ah!" she exclaims before she rushes to every little thing that interests her and examines it, which is a lot, especially since there's an alchemy set.

"Ah, drats, all my notepads and pens are in my saddlebags..." she bemoans as she's holding a book taken out of one of the shelves.

"...Good thing I always carry extra ones with me!" she says as she procures one small notepad and one pen of equal smallness out of her cloak with her magic, and she begins scribbling down furiously all she can about all this alien knowledge.

"If only I had all day, all week! And more paper."

>Market shuts the door as they enter, looking to Aether, "Aether, you're a student, check for any magic-y stuff in that writing desk and read the note."

"Oh, uh, right..." she says, somewhat dejected, and puts back her notepad and pen in her cloak and the book she was holding in the shelf and looks over more carefully the writing desk she had already glanced over.

>"Eh if it's got anything in it, dump it out. We're gonna trash his office."

>The two go apart quietly putting the office into disarray as they look it over for clues and such, leaving the desk to Aether.

She's at the desk and is starting to look at the half-written letter, but once she hears a bit of commotion, she looks up to find the study starting to become a mess.

"Ah! Wait! Keep everything organized! So I can find things more easily!"
>>

>"Ah! Wait! Keep everything organized! So I can find things more easily!"
Pain stops mid-knocking over a large looking alchemical set complete with glass vials. However, gravity does it's course in completing what he started, the glass shattering on the ground.
"Oops."
>>
>>30589384
Aether winces at the glass shattering.

"Ah..." she groans, as if she was physically hurt.
>>
>>30589285
The goblins look on in shock, covering their faces as you fire the blast of pressurized water. The bear growls in pain for a moment, barely holding itself up form the previous geyser, but manages to avoid the stream and claw at you, knocking you back to the ground (0/2) as it raises itself up and roars once more, bringing its claws down to the ground on top of you
[1d10+1] (Great)

The High Shaman, sweating a bit from your earlier display, regains some composure. "That's more like it... stay down, and make it quicker on yourself, Alexis from the land of 'movies'."

>>30589242
You turn over the entire office in a flurry, tossing about papers on the desks and books off their shelves as you search frantically for clues. You dump over the cauldron at the side of the room, and its green contents pour all over the floor of the study. It feels warm to the touch, but otherwise has no visible effect on you, though you think you see glimpses and flashes a castle among them. Your disorganized notes are quickly collected by Aether, save for the contents of the alchemical set you destroyed...

Aether quickly gets to work scribbling down all the notes she can from the High Shaman's desk area. What she finds among the High Shaman's magic notes mirror those you know from back in Equestria from her mentoring with Twilight. Alchemical cures for healing wounds, controlling nature, mind control, and even minor teleportation spells are among the notes you find. You also find a recipe for 'the Brew of Taint', presumably the dark magical liquid the cauldrons have been filled with used to transform Tetrans.

Among the notes, you find four memos of particular importance
>1. Birth of Gold Horns and Silver Horns
>2. Arrival of the Stranger
>3. Capture of Kachina
>4. Taming of the Dragons

In addition to this, you read the half-finished letter:
>"Rasheo,
>"I write to you to inform you not of the process of drawing forth the bounty of Souls from our adamant princess. Research is as slow as ever, and I do not have an update as to when I might find a break through."
>"I instead write to you to inform you of a most disturbing occurrence that happened but a few minutes ago at the time of writing this letter. Something I am hoping you can explain to me. As I was brewing my latest concoction of Brew, I was beset by a ghostly apparition of what I am CERTAIN was a pony. She fled as quickly as she appeared, taking with her a bag of goods from one of my flock right after I retaliated. She was clearly not Kachina, but I am-"

"And that we should help her?"

"This is all so great! Ms. Sparkle would be so delighted to see these!" she exclaims again as she's writing. If you tried to look at her notes, though, you'd feel like you'd need a magnifying glass to read it.

You two take notice of Alexis apparently having been in these caves recently, but decide to take the time to read through the notes that the Shaman left behind before moving forward.

>Posting summaries here for digestion, full texts can be found in pastebin later tonight
>1. Birth of Gold Horns and Silver Horns
Master Grak tells of how he discovered a pair of extremely over-cooked Tainted at the bottom of his cauldron, and upon prying them out were met with the shimmering ogre siblings he named Gold Horns and Silver Horns, the first Demons to exist on the island in over a century. He imagines them a game-changer, but does not wish to send them blindly against Kachina, and their impatience makes them exceedingly difficult to control for the High Shaman (who fears for his very life with them around). He barely keeps them in check for weeks.
>2. Arrival of the Stranger
Fortune strikes when a trio of animals not native to the island, a large lion (named Rasheo), ape, and dog, arrive suddenly on Ogre Island with promises of change. They represent a sponsor who would like to see Kachina taken care of, and he wealth of Souls she holds extracted. To this end, they provide Grak with an artifact far more powerful than the humble Shaman had ever seen in this or any lifetime, promising it would give them the edge.

>3. Capture of Kachina
The High Shaman and the Horn Siblings led an assault up Kachina's mountain to her castle, whereupon they were met with the dragon guardians Pryftan and Trāgu. Much to even the Shaman's surprise, Gold Horn and Silver Horns were able to over-come the dragons and defeat them, leaving only Kachina. Kachina was more than enough to handle the weakened Demons, and was just about to kill them AND the Shaman in one fell swoop, when Rasheo and his cohorts struck from behind with the Cage, trapping her instantly in the glowing green orb with no way out. They split the key to the orb into three (one for each of the Tainted), and Rasheo demanded they repay them with Kachina's Souls in time.
>4. Taming of the Dragons
After Kachina was captured, the High Shaman had a thought to deal with the dragon guardians left behind. To kill them would be a waste, but he did not care to Taint them either: the stronger the original creature, the stronger the Tainted, and he had enough trouble containing Gold and Silver Horns. Instead, he concocted a spell to hex the draconic pair to instill a state similar to Doomed, one that would not be easily broken with Kachina captured. He was only able to command them to do one simple task: let no one else upon the mountain save Tainted, but felt it would be enough. With the dragons guarding the mountain, Silver and Gold Horns guarding Kachina's cage, the Shaman could safely study a way to extract the 10,000 Souls Kachina holds. He makes not that he has no intention of giving them to Rasheo, but instead to feed them to Gold Horns and Silver Horns so as to make them nigh unstoppable.

Alexis manages to rise to her feet, just as the bear sweeps his fist in her direction. Finding her sword once again in her hoof, she cuts its arm off at the shoulder, sending it falling backwards in pain much as she did to Gold Horns.

Her eyes are wide open with fascination as she looks through the notes. The pages in her notepad flip frequently as she scratches the notes down. You can almost smell that smokey smell again.

She slows down at the last sentence, and after she makes one final dot, she gives a heavy sigh.

"Phew! Now we know everything about what's going on with Kachina and the whole castle situation, everything! If these notes are exhaustive... I'm pretty sure they are, though... since it was written by..."

A thought occurs to her, and she then says, "Oh! Alexis!"

She looks at the half-written letter again, and points out, "This must have been written very recently, or else he would have finished it already. Something must have interrupted him..."

She looks back up.

"Where would she be, though? Alexis? She could be anywhere, her being a ghost and all..."

You avoid the swing of the bear's claws as you rise to your hooves, and with a sweep of your newly formed sword you slice off the bear's arm at the shoulder, sending it flying away as the Doomed Bear lets out a tremendous roar of pain, writhing around as it rears up and falls backwards, its movement ceasing as it lets out a final breath, and the essence forms into a Soul near its mouth.

After it falls back, Grak meets your stare, his mouth gaping a little, staring you down breathlessly as one of the goblins throws a pebble near your hooves to break the silence.
>"BOOOOOOOOO! The ghost pony cheated!"
One goblin rings out, and soon a chorus of them follows, many goblins throwing their trash at you as the crowd of dozens sounds a loud disapproval at your victory. The boos are almost deafening, but the Shaman does not join in, merely rubbing his chin in contemplation.

Having collected all necessary information that the Shaman's study could possibly provide into the situation, Aether takes in the smorgasbord of information in her tiny note pad to be distributed later (with Market grabbing the original copies as well, just for safe-keeping). You two move out of the Shaman's office and into the hall, however, you are met with the sight of a patrol straight away.
"Over here you dumb lump of rock, I know I heard a crash come from over 'ere...." you hear the sound of stomping coming from up the hallway, and you are met with the sight of one of the ogres you saw earlier in the cauldron room, a red one with a chain attached to a Doomed Stone Elemental who looks about aimlessly. As he spots the two of you leaving the Shaman's chambers (the alchemical liquid pouring out from underneath the door), he stares wide-eyed at the sight of two ponies and donkey. "N-n-no way...."

He growls angrily, then throws the chain at Pain Train, shouting at the Stone Elemental, "Get 'im, you oaf! I'll go sound the alarm!"

Just as she tries to get her bearings, she is interrupted by the deafening boos and thrown trash.

"Ow, hey! Quit it!" she yells as she's bombarded with trash.

Her jacket is torn in multiple places, leaving gashes in the astral material she is composed of beneath, primarily on her back. Her left leg has a slash going straight up it, leaving its mark on her body. In short, although she lacks the blood or organs to show it, she is clearly heavily damaged.

The trash throwing does not stop as the goblins continue to boo at you, before the Shaman throws up a hand and shouts, "ENOUGH!" The goblins cease as they do so, all staring at the Goblin Shaman for his next command, though muttering spreads through out the audience. The goblin rubs at his side-burns, and cackles slowly. "I'll have to pay you back. I rather liked that Doomed, he would have made a fine Tainted when he ripened." His grin turns into a scowl, "I take it you're still insistent about 'taking my Soul'? If so..." he smiles, reaching down into his robes to pull out a vial of green liquid. He throws it down into the arena. "Catch. Pour a bit on your wounds. After hearing the loud sound of rock-hitting-magic she opens her eyes and tries to figure out what to do next. She sees Mr. Manager stopping the ogre and Pain Train dealing with the stone elemental.

It tries to fight it, but as it does so Pain Train comes in with the famous Railroad Spike, the diving elbow from the Donkey coming down to break the elemantal's neck with terrific force.

The stone elemental splits apart, sending shrapnel towards the other combatant, the ogre, as a stone hits him square in the head, blood coming out of the wound as he falls over comically, letting out a last breath as his Soul forms in the air before dropping to the ground. "True enough. Nice hustle by the way bookworm."
The two start making for the tunnels again, hunting for signs of Alexis or a commotion.

The ghost looks across the pit at the newest combatant, before turning to the Shaman.

"Oh come ON!" she shouts as he sends in yet another foe, eyes widening as he shakes the ground with his stomp, and sends up sparks with his blade. She looks down at her own, far more pathetic blade with a sigh.

>"I really hope I got this right."

"Sildo: Shihakusho!" she shouts, as her outfit is immediately replaced, her torn jacket, along with her shirt, skirt, and boots, replaced at once with a black robe tied with a white belt.

>"Okay. Just like before. Right on the neck. I can do this!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW4EHgifLGQ

She charges him, and when he moves to swing his sword at her she runs up the blade and swings her katana at his neck.

>"True enough. Nice hustle by the way bookworm."

"Oh, hah, thanks..." she says, chuckling a bit as she looks off to the side.

As Pain and Market head off, she looks to the souls that just appeared. She wants them, but she's still struggling with how repulsive dead things are. Again she inches over to each soul, quickly retracting once she grabs one, and then she catches up to the other two.

The goblin crowd looks on in shock as you suddenly replace your entire ensemble, shaking their heads and muttering (along with the Shaman, who looks on stupefied) before you charge him.

Dagg merely grins, bringing up his own sword in a confident grin. "You think you can take me!? I'll cut you down and make a paper-weight from your Soul!" He shouts as he swings it down, but it's all too late as your sword cuts through his neck in one fell swoop, separating it from his head in an instant as it goes flying towards the other side of the arena. His body goes limp, and falls down to the ground in a heap, still clutching his sword. A small ball of essence leaves his neck and forms into a tinted-green/white Soul next to his body.

The Goblin cheering stops, and everyone goes completely silent. Even the Shaman has nothing to add on to that for the moment as the entire arena ceases to make noise.

>Earth Elemental:
>-Offense: Earthen Strike
>-Defense: Huge

You two decide to head towards the sound of commotion, and sure enough, after a brief more time exploring the tunnels, you happen upon a crowd of goblins gathered into a large chamber. You're still stealthed, and they do not hear you (though if you want to go in WITHOUT making a scene, you can roll. To enter unstealthily, no roll required).

Within this chamber, you can see large crowd of about three dozen goblins gathered around a circular pit, stone-like benches providing them a place to sit, and at the far side you think you see the very Shaman you seek based on his high-profile throne and over-all appearance. The pit is deep, about ten feet from top to bottom, and about fifty feet in diameter. AS you approach, you hear a cry of an ogre charging, but then moments later you see a head lopped up from the pit itself and into the air before it lands back within the pit, and the entire audience chamber of goblins go silent.

"Yes! One hit!" she yells excitedly, hitting the ground running, her new soft sandal-like shoes rushing across the slick wet stone floors, before she suddenly jumps up and out of the ring towards the throne.

She thinks, mind racing, katana held in both hooves as she aims towards his stomach, impaling him to his throne.

Master Grak is still soft-spoken even as you jump up towards his throne. He looks up at you in shock, shouting, 'WAIT!" before you successfully stick the sword through him, causing him to yell out in pain, "AAAAAGH!"

As you do so, he reaches for a vial, reaching it to pour over his wounds. "D-damnit! HORDE! Descend upon her, tear her apart!"

The goblins do not move at first, clearly shocked by your earlier display. "W-we believe in you, High Shaman! You defeated Kachina with Lords Silver Horns and Gold Horns, you can handle her, right?!"

The pair of you are as silent as mice as you sneak in among the goblin crowd, undetected entirely by the masses as you take your seats at some stone benches with not a single goblin giving alarm, all of them captivated by the pony you see charging the Shaman at the far end. It is clearly Alexis, though her outfit has changed to a black robe. The goblins nearest to you shout,

"T-think he really does want us to get involved?"
"Why do you WANT to get involved?! You just saw what she did to Dagg, right?!"
"Good point... but, if he lives, we'll be in HUGE trouble if we ignore him..."

She's flabbergasted. Of course something like this would happen.

"I sure hope nothing bad comes out of this..." she mutters to herself, looking at the ground as she shakes her head.

She looks up to see Pain Train, however, and sees something bad.

"Oh, boy."

The tonic does its work on his sword wound, causing it to heal up and begin pushing the sword out, however the goblin is still stuck when your fire-ball collides and bursts upon impact, leaving him badly injured with wounds bleeding out of more spots.

"G-gg--raaaah... D-damn brat! Y-you think I'll stand for this? I am the High Shaman of the Tainted! Master Grak!" He painfully sounds out, reaching up to pull the sword the rest of the way out of his body and tossing it aside, before grabbing at his pole and surrounding it with a green glow. As Market continues calling out the play of the fight, the Shaman turns and looks at Triple M. "Wait... what did he say his name was?" As realization begins to dawn on Grak's face, he turns down to look at Pain Train, color drained from it before Pain leaps up towards him. "Pain Train?! SH-she said YOU were the...."

You connect with your hooves, spinning him about and switching to push him down on the ground, the Shaman letting out an 'oof' as he's pinned helpless and cries out from the pain in his wounds. "GAaaaah! Y-you're the one who knows how to fight!" He repeats, "S-she killed my best ogre in one hit... and, YOU'RE the fighter...?" He says with a shallow gulp, laying down helpless as Triple M gives out the final cry for victory.

As he does so though, the Goblins all turn to each other, and scream loudly, flailing their arms up in the air as the excitement builds. But not in the way one might expect: the goblin horde proceeds to run out of the arena towards the exit, cowardly abandoning their Shaman as even Grak can barely curse after them.
