Would have to be Sea Urchin for me, but I'm also a sort of elitist when it comes to what I read. If I see any red flags while reading first couple of paragraphs, IE a poorly done cliche, run-on sentences, dumping exposition, and other sort of stuff like that. Don't read a whole lot of green because most of it lacks a certain threshold, but Sea Urchin? He's my favorite, despite me only reading his Obsession story, and his writing has inspired my own heavily in deciding to become a writefag. SciAnon and YFNAON come in real close behind them, though.

Two I'm watching now are "heart of war" by ThingFag and Queen Umbra by Rager. Both are pretty good imo, ThingFag makes some really detailed worlds and can make a story feel epic, while Rager is good at consistent character growth and actually being able to advance a story without having it be jarring or stupid.

Probably Mobius from RD thread because Dosh is my waifu. He is good at writing and I like his style. He describes emotions well and every time she and Anon are together it feels really intimate. Nothing is forced, out of characters or shoehorned. It's pretty smooth. You can find his writings on fimfiction. His story is named Excuses

You described the exact opposite of greentext. 95% of what people post here is unneeded crap. The other 5% is actually really good and comes with a lot of detail. I think the best greens I've read were ones that followed Anon's consciousness in a believable way, like how the reader themselves might break down a situation. BBSA by my standards isn't a very good green, but a lot of crazy otherworldly shit does happen in it. You would expect the writefag to be so absorbed in explaining all the happenings that he forgets about the characters. That's not what happens though. ChurroAnon keeps the story focused on the characters' minds and focuses the story around their actions more than anything else. Even with all the crazy stuff going on, the reader is always on track with the main character because Churro does such a good job of keeping us in his mind.

Traplight is a pretty good green and handles a lot of characters. Nobody is a good person and the story is very upsetting, but with how Jeff writes them, you can at least understand why the characters act the way they do because you can see the world through their lens. Everything makes sense when typically you'd think it shouldn't. That's impressive given how many unique characters he had to keep track of.

Obsession is probably one of the best greens in the thread on a technical level and even better in story. By the time the end hits, things have spiraled so far out of control that you'd never have expected any of it at the start, but you can perfectly follow the chain of events because everything is seen through Anon's eye and how Urchin writes his descent into madness is so believable that you can picture yourself on the same journey if you were in his shoes. Not many people can write such a broken, hurt, and ill character and still make it compelling. One of the reasons it is here is because Anon is so relatable in action and thought and Urchin's world building skills help flesh everything out.

Long epic stories dont do well in green. Most peoples eyes glaze over when they see a 5 paragraph wall of text all in green. New readers will likely give up at the very idea of trying to start off from the beginning and definitely not understand what the fuck is going on.

I once did an extensive story about anon as a knight fighting dragons to save celestia via greentext. To not be quite so much of a faggot, id post one wall of greentext to show the chapter start and have the rest in pastebin with the link provided. With all the pastebin chapters right there, I thought new readers atleast had a chance.

If you have enough people showing interest to justify you having your own thread/position in a general, you're effectively doing a service to the community by providing OC and entertainment. On /mlp/, it's about finding a topic/genera that you like and running with it.

Then it comes down to really liking the premise you've chosen to write about. If you really want your vision out there for better or worse, then just fucking do it, even if it's just for yourself/a niche audience. Due to the diverse audience we have on this board, there's at least one person who wants to read what you want to write.

Third is alcoholism, but I think that's less to do with writefagging in general, and more to due with myself. Personally I'm really far gone tonight.

This is a multifaceted problem for which there is no one right answer. I find it necessary to commit to a schedule and stick with it. Try to pick one that's sustainable, but still fast enough that you might actually finish before the head death of the universe. Once you've committed to a schedule it's more a matter of determination than motivation.

Well, you have to structure yourself. You have to plan your story and find ways to make it continue to be appealing for you. Usually you get conflicted, like, "is this what I want or what THEY want" and you'll have to decide that on your own. Usually, you just keep working on it. Keep it fresh and interesting that you want to keep working on it. It'll still take time. It always does. However, you can, at the very least, work on other stories in between them. For example, I have one green I've been working on that I decided to rewrite. If I write for that for too long, I'll go work on another one I have in store. And if I don't want to work on that one, then maybe I'll do a short little green for the day instead.

Then again, I usually spends months writing greens and wait for a thread that's relevant and begin posting if people start requesting for green. I operate weirdly.

The problem is that he's gone instantly to lowest common denomination with lewd ponies and '''''anon''''' being fuck all like any other interpretation of Anon, which in terms of writing is the biggest sin. Anon should be either totally indifferent and unphased by any events or involvements or a completely douchetastic faggot who's acting like Shoutingisfun portrays him. Giving Anon facial features is a big no no as well since it ruins the self insertion part of what Anon should be.

He should have just given Anon a name instead and made some random character instead.

But when you place him in a long story, where you need him to have a certain personality and mindset, or even a certain 'body', then his purpose isn't to self insert
If you can do it, great, but he's basically a 'no name' human with a personality like you'd see in any other third person hie fic on fimfic

You can make the perfect 'self-insert(able)' Anon in a picture like pic related and such, but when you want to use him in a story, or a comic, then you can't have that, he needs to have reactions, a voice, a mind of his own

and that is why Anon is either like the Anon in your image, because it'd be a likely response in a thread which covers the coalesced joke anon, or a completely blank slate Anon who gives generic responses with a bit of internet sass like in the better long green text stories.

Neither has an actual character or agenda and fulfills the self insert/experience bracket of what Anon is mean't to fulfill.

The problem with Pencils' Anon is that he is a character that could be fulfilled AS a character with his own name. Given it's an MLP comic as well, he wouldn't even have to be a human since they could just make him a stallion who appeared out of nowhere and get the same exact story.

It's not a bad comic but the writing is pretty standard and could do with a proper writer. But that's the curse of most artists.

But writing a story that gives its Anon defined character traits, backstory, and personality details that make it impossible to be a straight self-insert is already shaky territory, and God forbid you actually use another name. What's the big deal about that being such a huge tipping point? Is self-insertion such a massively huge deal that it must be the primary draw of a story, its inclusion or exclusion overriding all other measures to judge by?

When I write Anon, I leave out all the physical descriptions I can other than what is absolutely necessary for the character. Leaving his skin, eyes, hair, and so on a mystery helps maintain that self insert idea even with a more developed character. If people choose to imagine Jim as. abald green man, that's fine. Of they want to see him as an aryan, they can. If they want to see themselves, they're able to.
