The older ones are more obvious, yes, but 51 and up isn't canon either, they just have more story elements taken from/based on the show. The only comics that can be argued to potentially be canon now is Legends of Magic, or at least the first 7 issues of it apparently. And even those are debatable, as Brenda Hickey only designed the characters, and those are the only things that will appear in the show, which means only the new characters might be canon, and not the LoM comics themselves.

Besides that miniseries though, everything else is very clearly not canon, including past and future issues. Some of the more recent issues contain elements or story points from the show, but that doesn't make them canon any more than someone writing a fanfiction or drawing fanart based on an episode would be.

But yeah, I can sort of see an argument for considering these first 7 LoM issues specifically as canon, even though that's not set in stone, but literally every other comic issue clearly isn't. So the statement that IDW and the comics aren't canon remains true.
