The party had finally made it to the Ribcage amid the disgruntled rumblings of Bee Holder's former first mates. Its appearance exceeded all the descriptors that the crew had heard so far; towers of bone and coral stabbed out of the water like skyscrapers, while low red clouds hung ominously over it, spindling into the sky like overflowing magma from a volcano. A momentary opening in the coral walls provided them entrance, but everything from the currents to the mist started fighting them once they had entered.

Cutlass, meanwhile, had become a prisoner in a brig on an island apparently owned by the Gates of Justice. She met up with Capt. Plague of the Fruitflies, where the two discussed the possibility of an escape. The two were also aware of a shimmering light around a few of the guards, reminiscent of that around Balalaika.

Another tendril of mist strikes Scales in the head, animating her body beyond her control with tiny flames. She stabs HHS in the side with her tail.
>HHS 0/4
"Oh, shit! What the!? I didn't do-- sorry, guy!" she apologizes, muscles straining as she grabs hold of the wheel again. [1d10+1: 2 + 1 = 3]

At that moment, Cloud disperses some of the mist with a beam of sunlight, clearing the way ahead. The ghostly tendrils fly out of the boards as they are exposed to the sunlight, and they recede back into the mist; apparently they are vulnerable to light. In turn, this exposes your attacker: a floating, lanky unicorn with slit eyes, pale tan skin, a light maroon jester's outfit and a slick-back white mane. In his right hoof he holds an hourglass, and in the left, he's juggling an assortment of dice that are covered with ghostly flames. "Oh, bother," he grunts as the sunlight appears and weakens his ghosts. "That's no fun. This is a bit of a boring fight anyway, too conventional. Let's get something exciting going here, why don't we?"

He spins several of the dice in his hoof, and as he does so, the environment behind him-- coral, water and all, becomes murky and distant, twisting and turning as his dice do.

>>30549348
Plague chews his food and thoughtfully squints at you. "Well, you're joining my crew, but we're gonna need to workshop this whole captain thing. You can be junior vice deputy captain."

All too soon, your dinner ends when a guard bangs on another gong. The other peons start to rouse the chain-gangs from their tables and corral them out of the mess hall. Plague glances around. "You might need to see an orthodontist, because I see a whole lot of crew all around us. With a prison population this big, there's got to be the formulations of an escape plan going on already. We just need to lead them."
>>
>>30549510
"We're just getting one weirdo after the next out here."
Cloud mutters as his sunlight exposes the unicorn.
"Alright bud, time for you to buzz of this ship!"
He shouts, eyes glowing as he attempts to bind the unicorn so he can't spin his dice anymore.

"Exciting huh... Then why don't I go ahead and roll your bones!" Rin shouts, her ghostly hand extending out to swipe away the dice to steal for herself.

Cutlass stares at Plague for a moment before she is forced away by her gang.

"I'll be sure to let you know what I find," Cutlass says as she stands up and goes with the rest of her group.

"I've had enough excitement, thank you. I got bigger fish to gnaw on than you," Cerulean calls out, rushing and leaping at the dice-rolling jester to give him a powerful tail slap.

The vine binds the unicorn, causing the dice to fall onto the ship. As Rin tries to grab one, the unicorn tugs against the vine and kicks one die into her head, dazing her. A ghostly flame surrounds her arms, and her swing connects with Alder and Cerulean's flesh. "Oh, forgive me, I forgot to introduce myself. I am the Pattern Juggler. I have a problem with jumping into a fray too early. How's everyone doing this morning? Have I made your entrance sufficiently grand? Only a spectacle of chaos can serve as a proper opening ceremony for a place such as this."
>Rin 0/4
>Alder 0/4

The dice settle on a 5, 3 and a 4, but the Juggler frowns and kicks the last die, moving it to a 2. "Ahahaha, the dice have spoken!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UYhSNLVGN8

He clears his throat and begins to narrate: "The area swirls in a sickening stew of bright colors and overwhelmingly sweet scents, like a burning candy shop that's next to a discount paint store!"

The area begins to morph in accordance with his narration.

>>30549557
The guards take you northeast, to another five-tiered tower. Inside, it's a musty and dirty complex of prison cells with little ventilation and no plumbing to be seen. They take you one floor up, to the fourth floor, and a team of guards unlocks each prisoner in the chain and individually hauls them into their cells.

As the guards come to you, they are stopped when a very high female voice shrieks, "HAAALT!"

Down the hall comes a haughty-looking mare, blue with a white mane, in a nice sundress. She does not walk on her hooves, but on her hair, which is put into two twintails and is functioning as a set of legs. They're shimmering as well. "You! What is your name, maggot?"
>>
>>30549656

>>
>>30549656

"Well, it's NOT Maggot!" Cutlass objects to the way she is addressed. "My name is Cutlass."

Alder yelps from the spooky spectral swing, and flails a little on the ground. He takes a few deep breaths, before trying to pick himself up off the deck. As he does so, he warks "Ch...C-Cheatin'. You moved the dice."

"Augh!" Rin shouts suddenly as she's dazed, causing her to rest on one of the railings of the ship for a moment to regain herself. "When I get me bearings I'm going to break yours!"

Cloud glances down as Pattern kicks the last die.
"Looks about right, never met a dice man that could play fair."
Cloud's eyes glow as he stirs up the wind, blowing at the dice to try and reroll them and aiming for that 4 result.

"Then how come you look so much like one! Cutlass!? You don't look like a sword at all!" the mare objects. "Anyway! I have orders to take you to a comfy special cell! What a gal like you has done to earn it, I don't know! But I'm taking you, so that's that, and you'll have a fun time there!"

The guards unlock you and forcibly drag you up another level. They and the mare escort you to a cell near the middle of the floor. Inside, you see Capt. Plague, as well as a male dachshund diamond dog and a young female giraffe. The cell is indeed more luxurious than the others; for one, it's actually clean, and has a rug in the center, and cushions on the padded benches.

"ENJOY! I hope you have a nice time!" the mare shouts, before slamming the cell and storming off.

While Rin starts bleeding out of her injury, the Juggler continues his eccentric narrations: "Oh, alas, not too fast! The crew was captivated by the colorful display as it settled into a more comprehensive form. Auroras settled over the waters as the air was chopped by chilly winds! The water guzzled below, and all around them, geysers burst into the sky! But worst of all... the dashing Juggler had one more trick up his sleeve, you see! Now entranced, their shadows began to dance!"

The world around you shifts to match his descriptions. The coral walls vanish as colorful auroras swirl in the air, and patches of the ocean water bubble up and burst into towering geysers, coming dangerously close to the ship.

Beneath you, your shadows start to rise up, and hang ominously behind you.

Cutlass is so overwhelmed by the situation, she says nothing the whole way.

"Soooooooooo, what the heck's going on? Why am I here now?"

Cloud slumps slightly after the geyser is diverted, breathing heavily from the strain of the struggle. Cloud looks up to the Juggler, glaring after the trick he tried to pull.
"Now let's deal with you..."
He breathes out as he stands back tall. As the shadows dart towards him, and Juggler runs below decks.
"Oh no you don't!"
He shouts, leaping for the hold entrance, ignoring his giant size and the danger coming at him as he thrusts out his hooves to grab the unicorn.

"It's actually good that you don't have a full plan," Ossie says with relief. "As long as you have a general idea. Better to not get caught up with being overly committed to a single plan."
"Well, whenever there's a genie involved, you're bound to get more than you asked for," Schnitzel says. "Whatever. I've got to see this map of yours. If they catch me, I'll just sell out someone else and get myself back into the lap of luxury."

Momentarily, Cloud grabs the Juggler. But, Rin's Shadow slices into Cloud's arm, giving the Juggler enough room to slip out and continue his rapid sprint. "Oh yes I do! Yahahahahaha!" A few of the crew who were below deck try to stop him, but he socks each of them, barreling downward with a trail of unconscious bodies behind him.

The Juggler's voice sweetly tumbles upward from down below deck. "Ahaha! The handsome Juggler has made his escape! Not a single one of this crew is a match for his magic, aura or deadly good looks! And I do mean deadly! Oh dear, I can't believe they've left one of their cannons unattended like this... and now it's loaded! What a disaster!

He cackles as his narration gets more frantic. "Just as the ocean outside whips itself into an absolute frenzy! The auroras fall into the water, turning it all into an oily mess! The waters are beyond control now! It's getting hellish out there! Something's about to give! Ooh-hoo-hoo-hoo! Hee-hee-hee!"

As you chase him down, you run past multiple unconscious, badly beaten members of the Beesting on the lower levels, beaten into a pulp by the surprisingly strong jester. You barely catch up to the Juggler. He's made it to the bottommost deck, and he's armed a cannon. He's on the verge of lighting it, and it's pointed straight at the floor. He catches the strike on his forearm, then throws you back with a telekinetic blast. [1d10+2]

The bonds around Scales are much too tight. "Forget that, forget me! Just steer, for the love of the Dragon Lands, just steer!"

The boat rocks and starts to tip as it's battered by the waves, and you can see that it's drifting dangerously toward some rocks in the water. The colorful sky starts to falter, and you see that the Juggler's illusory world is starting to fall apart.

"Obviously, the easiest way would be to have the Head Guard... 'invite' me there," Cutlass contemplates. "We could either do something bad enough to get us taken there. Or, we could find a good enough reason that he'd want to talk to us."

"The first one sounds more feasible..." Cutlass contemplates. "But, it also seems like it's dense with possible flaws. The latter option seems like it would go more smoothly, but I haven't the foggiest what he'd want to talk to us about."

The Juggler lights the cannon's wick and tries to press it further into the ground. But, in the nick of time, Cerulean shoves the cannon up and to the right, causing it to fire at an angle through the ship's side. Some water leaks in due to the splashing of the waves, but it's nothing compared to the flow it would've taken on if it had shot through the floor.

However, the rumble is enough to nearly knock the ship over, as with a mighty creak, the ship starts to fall to one side, fighting against his control.
>Rin is stealthed

"Yes! What a wonderful performance you've given me!" the Juggler declares. "Beautiful! You're all a wonderful crowd and a set of actors!"

Then the ship creaks again and he nearly falls over. "Weeeellll, time to hit the ol' magic trail, actually..."

He holds up his three dice and presses them against himself, causing his body to alight with ghostly flame and turn transparent.

>>30550660
"I can think of a lot of things he'd like to talk to you about," Plague laughs.
"Hmm... we'd have to probably kill someone in that first scenario," Ossie says. "But I know that they'd be just as interested in the Ribcage as any pirate."
"I guess, but we'd be playing our hand too early," Schnitzel adds. "I do have one option... there's a guy I could snitch on, a drug dealer in the prison yard. But we'd need a little proof to back up our claim. And besides, I still want to keep that as a trump card in case I get in trouble later."

Cloud says as his shadows falls and returns to to normal.

As the ship creaks and tilts, Cloud looks back down into the hold, wondering what's happening down there. But with the ship leaning like this after all that damage, he'll have to act quick. "I like the snitching angle," Cutlass says with a nod. "I can find the evidence if you point me in the right direction."

"And, how about this," Cutlass offers to Schnitzel. "I can be the one to do the thievery while you do the snitching. That way, there's almost no way it can be traced back to you. And, even if it does, you can just snitch on me. Tell them I coerced you into bringing me along. So, you'll still have a trump card."

Cerulean flashes a grin at the Jester, showing off her teeth that still look pristine, even after the had a death grip on the cannon. She looks about to leap at him, but then the rocking of the ship causes her to lose her footing and brace rather than jump.

Plague's eyes bulge open. "You... by golly, you're too pure for this world. Never mind, don't mind me."
"Riiiight..." Schnitzel says. "That's fine, but that's not the problem. The problem is that this guy, Godot, does not leave any physical evidence whatsoever. Godot operates completely solo, so not only does he distribute the drugs, he also makes it himself. But I don't know how he possibly could. See, the ships and prisoners are all inspected from tip to tail when they get here. So, if he tried to smuggle it in, he would've been caught. This means that either someone in the prison staff is in on it, and helping him, or he's somehow making it himself out of stuff from the island. I don't think it's the former, because he doesn't get any special privileges, like I do. But how would he be making it himself? He's a griffon, and can't use any magic as far as I know."

The waves toss and crush the ship, to and fro, sending everyone below deck against the walls and floor as debris flies about. Scales grabs hold of HHS and Alder, while Cloud barely holds on through his vine.
