My biggest problem with the show as it is now is the lack of mystery. With S1 because there was so much of the world to explore it fueled fan fires by allowing speculation that at that time couldn't be disproven and could be filled in with anything fans could gather.

If the show ever wants to gain an interest again, add more mysteries to the show and its lore. Solving mysteries but never handing out new mysteries will kill any speculation. If we had more things like those artifacts briefly mentioned in the S5 premire that alone could have helped the season lack a little less.

Look at any of your most popular games this past decade, no matter how cringey their fandoms are they have one thing in common. They're full of mysteries, speculation and a desire to fill those. Which is in my opinion a big part of what makes them big.

Of course throwing mysteries out there for the sake of mysteries will also be harmful but they should sprinkle some points of interest every now and then.
