Now, when the reformed changelings stopped feeding on love, THAT'S where things get interesting: You see, some male moths hatch from the cocoons without mouths, since their only remaining function is to impregnate a female before they drop dead. Note how brightly colored the changelings were after their cocoon-transformations? I presume that's something the females of their species would find attractive.

Long story short: The changelings now live only to find a queen to impregnate, and then they die. Obviously Chrysalis needed to keep the majority of them as workers rather than drones, but then Thorax doomed the whole hive.

Stallions and mares are captured, either works, and brought to the hive.

Two important factors here: The Queen, and her drones.

Captured Stallions don't last long. The Queen restrains her prey, lubes them up good, and depending on her mood, will either fuck them in the mouth or anus with her ovipositor, laying eggs inside them. The eggs are then fertilized by her drones, who simply possess "normal" penises.
Once fertilized, the eggs cling to the walls within the digestive system, absorbing nutrients from any food eaten.
The eggs within the poor Stallion then hatch inside him, and the newborn changelings agonizingly devour him from the inside out.

Mares last much longer. They do not need the Queen to lay eggs inside of them, instead their ovaries will provide enough for the hive. Only the drones rut the mare, as their sperm has a secondary property: multiple sperm may attack an egg, each injecting their DNA into it which overwhelms and then hijacks the genetic material within the egg, rewriting it so that the egg will birth a 100% changeling rather than a pony mixed with something else.

Hypnosis may be used to keep ponies docile, but it may be up to Chrysalis to determine just how cruel or insulting she wants to be.
