Nonsense. Discord is the literal embodiment of chaos and chaos magic itself. He's a being beyond beings who chooses to materialize. Likelihood of Discord being Starswirl is very, very low.

Also do we even know how long ago Starswirl even lived? Because without that knowledge, we're assuming he lived thousands of years ago, perhaps concurrently alongside the sister princesses who fought Discord at that same time. That's very, very hard to believe.

What would be more interesting would be if Starswirl tried to replicate Chaos magic through inspiration from Discord and/or his myths.

It's actually possible Discord hasn't actually lived all that long. It could be that as Starswirl got older, he grew more and more estranged to the two sisters and lived the later years of his life in solitude, before his tragic accident transforming him into Discord. I imagine Discord successfully overthrew the princesses and began his reign of chaos for who knows how long before they retrieved the elements of harmony from the tree and turned him to stone.
What really throws a wrench in this is the recent Discord episode confirming he dissipates if he cannot perform chaos magic, leaving the only remaining possibility for that link as Draconequus' being an actual race (not just Discord) that all share this innate chaos magic in the same way that the unicorns of Equestria have their own, and Starswirl somehow changed himself into one, but yes, as you say, the plausibility of that is quite low.
I feel like if they planned on establishing this kind of thing they would have done it back in season 3.

Me and my faggot friends were discussing Scorpan and Tirek recently and came up with some interesting thoughts.

The G4 backstory for Tirek and Scorpan is pretty similar to the original G1 portrayal.
They are brothers that came to the pony lands from somewhere far away. Scorpan befriends the ponies and wants to understand them, while Tirek wants their magic for his own gain.
In the end of the original movie, Scorpan has his "curse" lifted and he becomes a handsome human prince again, which sort of implies Tirek was once a human man.

We came up with the idea that Tirek and Scorpan were humans from the EqG world that somehow came through the mirror for whatever reason. Their constant exposure to Equestrian magic changed their forms and they became beast things with the power to access the magic. Tirek decided he really really liked having magic so he turned evil and started stealing it.

They could have provided a better reason for her treacherous political agenda, but DHX wasted it on a petty issue that could have easily been solved.

There's also the issue surrounding her lack of adequate punishment. It's rather problematic if the show has no problem disciplining children, but is perfectly fine allowing adults to get off scout-free for. The only kind of characters who'd resent Starlight would be her peers back in Our Town, but we all know how that ended.

Janitor duty would suffice as a proper punishment at the very least, but doing so at this point will come across as too little, too late, it seems.

I am still of the opinion that having Twilight live in a castle in the middle of the Everfree Forest, relatively far away from her friends, would be pretty stupid. You couldn't even simply pay her a quick visit because you actually need to set aside quite some time to get there and come back. Putting the princess of friendship in a remote place seems like the most stupid thing ever, no matter how nice it would have been to repurpose the castle. I really don't get why people think that'd be a good idea.

I dunno, I'd say having three ponies chase Trixie around expressing Starlight's feelings to make her realise her error qualifies as "help". Also I'm pretty sure a lot if not most episodes of this show consist of one or more characters realising the error of their ways after seeing how their actions affect other ponies, so that's not exactly uncommon.

Aren't those two kind of mutually exclusive, ie. liking Glimmer meaning you understand the show and characters cannot be expository/introductory like S1 for 7 seasons unless you want FiM to be a pony sitcom? And what does Faustfag even mean anymore, I often get the impression what alleged Faustfags want isn't always what Faust wanted (my description above included)? Or does it just mean you like both S1 and later seasons, with "Faustfag" simply meaning you like Faust's work in general?

I'm unsure of what to tell you, man. I still think that when Faust left, the show lost its captain and its mainsail, and drifted aimlessly for a long time, taking many weird turns in the process. My enjoyment of the show still hasn't fully recovered.

Still... 7 years is a long time. I've accepted that the show is different now, even if I get nostalgic sometimes. And, Glim & crew are an interesting bunch which, for the time being, seem to be actually headed somewhere. It gives me hope.

Shining Armor and Cadence. We could learn a lot about them from a good episode on Twilight's past.

Overall, the show just has too many interesting side-characters. It keeps making new ones instead of expanding existing ones.

I have some hope that the show staff is aware of this problem since the current season has given actual development of the Royal Sisters and backstory of Rainbow Dash and Applejack parents.

They are also using Starlight as a way to bring back side-characters that never gelled with the 6. Trixie, Maud, Discord, and Spike all feel more genuine around Starlight. She's a different personality that can build a different group of friends. The 6 are a complete set and anyone else feels like an unnecessary addition.
