I don't think she'll be an alicorn. She'll be placed in a situation where she needs to save the mane 6 and the only way to do it is by giving up all her magic. This turns her into stone and is literally written off the series like the mary sue that she is.

She could have just left them to their fates with the changelings but instead she risked everything to save them. Wishful thinking. She'd still be more practical than that. Rescuing them from the changelings was too risky to not be genuine. She could have easily left Ponyville and started up a new village and there wouldn't have been any way to stop her. Besides, I don't think Chrysalis would have killed the princesses. She would have used them as bartering chips and to ensure the submission of the rest of Equestria. Also to keep as trophies because she's vain like that.

The season's Theme is family; most likely we'll find out that the reason that starlight is so powerful is that she's descended from the evil alicorn motherfucker in the Shadowlock comic, and the other 6 will be worfed so she can solo her granddad to show how reformed she is and get a throne.

Then S8 will be about her "realizing" her alicorn genes and ascending into one for real.

I hated the TIMING of it not necessarily the concept. Considering that there was more to come with the show I feel as though they were writing themselves into a hole with Twilight.

Do you think I didn't know that? The problems with that episode lie in the changes that were made to Larsons original script mandated by Hasbro. Even then Season 3 and 4 were known to be ordered during summer 2011. That being said more thought behind that decision should have been made.
