Back in my freshman year of HS, I had a gay Mexican friend that watched the show. He told me to watch it so I saw the first 3 seasons on Netflix. I didn't really get into it then but about 2 years later, I was at my neighbor's house who's young daughter was watching some child's show on Netflix. I started watching because my favorite movie review podcast did a review of the series after season 1 ended, and their mostly positive review of the series surprised me and piqued my interest. I didn't watch the show at the time though because ponies are for little girls. But then a couple months later, not long after season 2 started, I had some time to kill before a new years eve party, and as I was going through whatever television pirating site I was using at the time I saw that MLP was on there and decided to give it a try. Watched episodes 1-4 before I had to leave, thought about the show the whole party, and came back afterwards to binge the rest.

Got bullied a lot when I was younger. My only real friends were on Xbox Live, and a lot of them were bronies at the time. There was this one guy, can't remember his name for the life of me (I think it had Nightmare in it? I dunno, the guys been offline for years) that I really looked up to, and he recommended the show to me. So I started watching it one summer and I was hooked. Told my few friends at school about it, and although they didn't want to watch it or give me too much shit about it, the fact that I was a brony got out and the bullying I was already facing doubled. Then a year or two later I moved and went to a new school. It was a fresh start, and I actually became pretty well-known and somewhat liked because of my pranks and general fuckery through the years. But nobody at my new school knew I watched the show. I knew my clean slate would be thrown out the window if I told any of them or if it ever got out there. Then I graduated with my dignity intact, and my power level is still by far my most closely kept secret. Revealing your power level is a meme, please any newfags reading this never do it. Never even consider it.

Looking back, it was a cope. Who cared if I got bullied if I could just go home to watch a happy colorful world of happy ponies? It put a smile on my face every time. And I still watch it and participate to the board, etc. because ponies are just so adorable I can't quit. But for god's sake, I refuse to reveal my power level. Not again

Had a friend that was coaxing me to watch it. I'd seen all the ponycancer wash up on this website when it first exploded and thought nothing of it and kept snubbing my friend at the thought of becoming a brony. Finally got me to agree to watch the next episode premiere after a night of drinking.It was The Last Roundup. Cue Derpy scene, my buddy starts freaking out over the gray horse and I'm bewildered as he grabs my laptop and starts scouring the pony sites and /co/ and we watched the madness unfold. Realized this stuff was serious business and together we watched the rest of the episodes for the rest of the day. He stopped watching the show part way through S3 but I kept going.

There has been a COLOSSAL amount of unnecessary Backlashing toward the Mane 6 in the last weeks, and this other than pissing me off, is also making me worried for the general reception of the Movie since it will have them as centric characters (not mentioning that as a big fan of them all of this is driving me crazy)....

Really what got me interested before I watched, was that the fans seemed to be having a lot of fun at the time. So I watched an episode; "Trade Ya". I didn't like it, but it was still semi entertaining, so I gave the series another chance with "Princess Twilight Sparkle. The episode was amazing. I ended up watching more and more, to the point where I had fallen in love with the world, characters, music, but especially the lore.
The lore is what truly hooked me. The story of a beautiful country run by a benevolent mare who raises the sun and moon herself, to keep her subjects from exhaustion and starvation, after having to banish her unappreciated sister for a millennium to keep her kingdom safe. Waiting for what seems to be a prophecy to finally be fulfilled, she must've been quietly ecstatic realizing who she had in her company, and what they would eventually grow up to do.

No matter how shit a recap that was, I fucking love this show for it.

I watched Season 1 years ago, it was okay, but nothing that hooked me.
Managed to avoid it for a long time after that, but hanging around a bunch of bronies recently has made me want to give the show another try.
Gonna watch Season 1 again in another half hour or so now that I got Netflix again.

I ended up binge watching until I was up to date, which was all of season 1 up to party of one.
