In the comics (I know, dubious canon) ponies went to the princess on duty for conflict resolution. Luna went all biblical and offered to cut a cart in half when folks were fighting over it. It was implied that so many hours of the day were dedicated to Celestia just sitting there and telling people how to solve their retarded pony problems.

That's the old-fashioned medieval way of doing things, when the monarch was also considered the supreme justice in the land. If Equestria works that way, then the Princesses are the highest court in the land. Since they can't be all places at once, in medieval fashion they would delegate the "right of justice" to lesser officials such as Mayor Mare.

So yes, Equestria has a court, but it's not independent of the monarchy. Good luck, law-breakers.

That one in particular was straight up non-canon though, as it's events couldn't possibly work in the context of the series thanks to the recent episode. Pretty much everything about it top to bottom was incompatible with current canon.

Current canon also shows that Celestia doesn't do that, or at least she didn't for two days straight, so you can just chuck that one right in the trash.

In Trade Ya! Twilight is called upon to make a ruling whether a trade was fair or not.
In Royal Problem, Luna is called on to mediate between two squabbling elites.

On multiple occasions Celestia is shown to be The Law, wih the ability to (pardon? Not judge?) criminals. During S1 and S2 neurotic memetwilight is often afraid that Celestia would banish her or similar.

So, Princesses are the law, and it makes sense that they'd be. Celestia can glimpse the future and sense Action, Luna can dreamwalk and discern Motive.

Dunno. She seems to lack a gift comparable to Luna and Celestia. Twilight doesn't have such a gift either.

Or maybe Cadance senses Love? And can discern other emotions that way, thus filling a role similar to Luna. Cadance did know Chrysalis' nature, but it's possible (but not tactically smart) Chrysalis outright told her. That's heavy speculation though, my previous post had a lot stronger grounding in the show.
