Ah ah, this stupid show for little girls is gonna bomb hard
>>30475964
She should have kickstarted.

Did this gen of MLP really have any impact animation-wise? Not in its consumerist aspect but as affecting the industry's outlook or style or anything?

>tfw that article was right the whole time

It did win several awards, and you can't deny it has had a pretty big influence on society as a whole for a cartoon, but it wasn't really a turning point on any technical or artistic front, it was just very good all around.
The main change I think is that MLP proved you can have a bubbly, colorful, happy cartoon targeted at little girls aged 7 that parents (and others) will still enjoy watching.
In a way it pushed cartoons into the mainstream a little bit, I know people who watched Gravity Falls or Rick and Morty nowadays who would have called you a faggot for even knowing about cartoons.

Yeah it had a cultural impact but there were shows targeted at younger audiences before that also targeted parents but not necessarily adults in general.
As for making cartoons more mainstream, I think that has more to do with our digital age, the shitty job market, and among cartoons dare I say it...Adventure Time
It seems AT has had a bigger impact overall.
I don't know. When I look back on MLP, I understand why people would like it but I don't know whether it really did anything on a larger scale

It probably made a lot of IP holders realize they could get a better return on investment if they put some care and innovation into their product, rather than just repeat the old formula or keep narrowing down on the niche.

I know, right? We now know that Lauren oversaw every step of production from start to finish, the very essence of "creator-driven", and when she left nobody stepped in to take her role.
History proved him right, and I dunno which is stronger... my amazement or my disappointment.

The show got better after Faust left.

The author of the article.

Nice meme.

I don't know if it affected IP holders that much imo.
G4 MLP's initial production concept was "Michael Bay Transformers for girls", revival of 80's hit products to strike modern age kids and nostalgia demographic which are now parents age. Although brony phenomenon was unexpected, FiM was probably expecting to have some amount of enthusiastic adult fans like the first Bayformers movie had.
And just like Bayformers, MLP currently is not much different from other franchises, just a repeat of same formula narrowing down to certain niche. Only difference from other franchises is that certain niche is very peculiar than others.

Not meme, I like the show more now than I did then.
>>30476514
Well, more power to you. Frankly I'm just amazed (and relieved) when they manage to pull off something good, knowing how much of a fragmented shitshow the production has become.
>>30476147
It's less of an age milestone and more of a gender milestone.
It shouldn't have been a surprising one, though. Its art style is not that different from anime.

Do I ALWAYS have to slap your shit with a belt?
You know what, how about I just kill you already? You won't improve in life anyway. You're a loser and an idiot meant to fail.
>>30476613
You seem awfully mad people enjoy the show.

I feel that if anything, it sort of cemented a modern definition of breakout fandom. Which does not necessarily represent fandoms as a whole, but many modern instances of a flavor of the month following of a new hit story/character driven show or game use the MLP fandom as a base. (SU, Undertale, etc.)
But without the controversial outward appearance, content, or solidarity, most of them just fizzle to obscurity in a year or less. Many want to be 'the next MLP', but so far, they haven't come close.
Bamp.
