You know, this could be base for a good story where Spike finds some old, cheap and discountinued comic merch at a dollar store (old cards, old toys, what have you) and he goes full vintage hunter mode, traveling all across Equestria to check other dollar stores while Twilight and company follow him around to keep him out of trouble but end up getting caught on his craze after they keep finding old, discontinued stuff for sale that strikes them just on their nostalgia or unresolved childhood issues.

The shop keepers are just happy to have them getting rid of their unsold stock.

Yes there is. It is the Bit Barn. It is run by Filthy Rich's younger sister, Ivanna B. Rich. You can get lots of stuff. Toys, a visor in assorted colors, cleaning supplies like Capt. Shine floor cleaner, quills with no plumes, ink, crayons, coloring books, small novelties like a cloud in a jar, ice cream treats, chips and candies, candles in assorted scents. It's very much like one of our discount stores. She makes decent money selling items other stores don't want to hold onto anymore. The only place Pinkie can get Hot Fries, 2 bags for a bit.

What about an episode where spike isn't around and Twilight really needs to send a letter to the princess. So then applejack reminds her that regular ponies use the post office and we end up with dmv'esque episode where all twilight wants to do is mail the freaking letter. It's painful, grueling, and in the end it would've been for naught as all she to do was drop it off in the box outside.
