hated her at first(back when I started to watch the show).Then in Sisterhooves Social,my vision about her made a complete turnaround and became one of my favorites and the reason to follow this show despite season 3
and until recently,I had been losing my spark on her because there were eps about other characters that made me forget or not caring that much about Rarity

Forever Filly and pic related made me recover the reasons why(fabulousity apart) she's most likely one of the best characters in this show

she's loved but I like her even more when her fans dont need to make noise about her greatness...and that's a welcome thing

Yeah I've been taking a bit of a break from /mlp/, really only back for some things, I wanted to see if a Rarity thread or a waifu thread was up since those were the only ones that I felt positive in, I was feeling really shitty most of the time otherwise. I took a break around December, and this might actually be the first time I stuck around all year.

I feel like I hear this all the time now. Which honestly, makes me feel good to see more people changing. While I really liked her from the start, It always made me feel down to see so many others dislike her, but now I feel better seeing that she's one of the characters handled best in the show's run, and as such a lot of those feelings have turned. It's nice. I feel bad for other characters whose episode luck isn't as good as hers, and I don't mean that as a way of seeming like she's better, but I think there's a noticeable trend that her episodes tend to be more steadily good than others.

I think I'd say that Pinkie and Rarity are the ones who get the stronger individual episodes in the series. Wish it was better for everyone.

Side note: I think she gets too much flak for that episode. The foolish way she handled her problems is actually pretty common - I saw it at old jobs pretty frequently. I'll give you that - she does that pretty frequently with Rarity. There is a key difference here though: Rarity has the moral high ground for once. Usually, it's AJ showing Rarity how to act (either that or they are equally foolish). Another plus is that we got more insight into Rarity's career. She's doing so well that she has the capability and recognition to test the skills of some newbies.

...that's about all the defense I have left for it. Despite that some of the themes in Rarity's/AJ's friendship are pretty stale now, I still liked the message, the new characters (especially strawberry mare) and the returning characters. Overall, a pretty fun episode inmho.

I actually kinda disliked the way the newbies were handled. That was another thing that kinda irked me about the episode, they didn't feel like younger versions of Rarity, they felt like character gimmicks. The happy one, the future one, the goth one.

Take Coco for example. Yeah she has traits of being shy, but at least with her appearances you sort of feel like there's more to her than just that trait of being shy. You can see why she thought Suri was who she had to work with and how she realized that was wrong, you can see her past with Made in Manehattan, she feels like her own character with her own aspirations. These new characters felt like the one dimensional throwaway characters, or shitty Canterlot Elite type of character whose sole purpose is to provide a gimmick and leave. The newbies really don't feel like there is anything to them aside from "Like, like, totally", "I can see the futureeee" and "I only watch Tim Burton movies".

And what actually almost solidified that to me was the ending. Forget the cop-out of "Oh look they all won!" I honestly was almost insulted that they just have their premade stuff on racks in Rarity's boutique, as if it was just a retail store. Like there wasn't even a shot of them eager to finally take off their careers as designers, nope, just "Here Rarity take our crap and sell it in your store." It makes me not want to give a damn about them, because they don't feel like characters with dreams and passions, they feel like cardboard traits.

Honest Apple might just be one of the worst episodes in the show for me, I don't feel like a lot of care went into it. I will say though, if it had any redeeming qualities its, like you said Rarity for once had the moral high ground, and that scene with Strawberry Sunrise. Well, that's because they were character gimmicks. It wasn't as deep of an episode as MiM for this reason. But not every episode has to be - I liked the comic relief of those designers, and I also liked the heartfelt Coco Pommel. I don't think they needed to add more characters like Coco when they could just use her, especially since there's still room to explore her character.

I think "they all won" was the only solution here. If they wanted to declare a single winner, they'd have to have geared the episode toward that. There would have to be a clear winner (or, at least a clear winner perceived by Rarity, Hoity Toity, and Photo Finish), but that would go against the overall moral of subjectivity of opinion.

Maybe we'll see more of those 3 designers in the future, but really the episode was about Applejack's struggle with honesty and opinion. To focus too much on the designers' eagerness would seem a little out of place (though I'll agree it would have been nice to have at least a little scene of them cheering). But thinking about it now, I can agree that the writer could have fit more depth into the designers. However, I think it's fine to give up depth for humor every now and then. Besides, this episode desperately needed comic relief, or the frustration from watching AJ's stubbornness would be a little overwhelming.

I can see why you didn't like it, but I must disagree. It was entertaining, the moral was good, and it was nice to see how Rarity's career is going. I think it's unfair to say it's one of the worst in the show, imho.

Some of them believe what they're posting (at least slightly), and that's because they have a grave misinterpretation of Rarity's character. Of course, both sex and death are not family-friendly. A near-equivalent for whoring would be something like, "I'll pretend to be your girlfriend for a day" or "I'll let you rub my belly". A near-equivalent for a femme fatale sort of action would be, as I said, charming someone into doing/giving up something for her, like when she tricked the Diamond Dogs or tried to charm the dragon out of his treasure (which, by the way, is the only time she used that tactic for anything other than good).

Try thinking about it that way, and don't let the whoreposters get to you.

Well the reason I go so far to call it one of the worst is actually more so the continuity errors. It felt wrong that Rarity had no idea what her sales associate in Manehattan was up to, and Rarity being on good terms with Photo Finish seemed really out of place with no backing to it. That, and the guitar scene I thought was a bit bad. If it weren't for those 3 things I'd probably have been more forgiving on it.

I'd say both of you have a point. The new designers were all just one and done character gimmicks, quite similar to the ones featured in Canterlot Boutique. But they were there for a laugh, not to be some incredibly deep characters with a chiseled backstory. Them being all winners was a given, partially because this is a kids show and also because you can't really objectively judge three designers when everyone uses a completely different style. The most they have in common is that they all designed clothes, that's pretty much where it ends.

Then again, picking only one winner would be an important lesson that sometimes subjective opinions of one person can decide on your success and that's just how life is sometimes, go cry about it. I can understand why they didn't go for that lesson, but I'd like that end much more.

I have to agree with the other anon that this would fit much more with the more stubborn, more "brutal honesty" AJ of earlier seasons. She should already know how subjective fashion is, that she doesn't actually understand most of it, but most importantly she went on this power trip while completely failing to pick up on clues that she's being a proper dickhead bashing everyone's job. That felt almost malicious, and kinda uncharacteristic for her, but maybe it's just my autism and headcanons and I'm forgetting some episodes where she showed similar behavior.

The Strawberry scene and what AJ learned was good, and Rarity being the one smugly in the right for once was fun. Overall I still enjoyed it more than Forever Filly.

True, and it's a theme that could still be explored. But it's one that's completely different than what they went for here. If they did that, I'm sure they'd introduce a new character (or bring back an old meanie, i.e. Suri) to be the one with the unfair subjective opinion. AJ has always thought fashion was beyond stupid. If she's going to be a dickhead about anything, it'd be fashion. I think it made sense that she would act this way, and it was probably cathartic for her (in the moment) to remove the feathers from that hat. She finally had the opportunity to "correct" the wrongs of dumb ol' fashion. I love AJ and she's normally very agreeable, but this is a weakness of hers. They may have gone a little overboard, but I don't think it was too far out of the question.

What kind of metal would Rarity like? Obvious choice would be something like Versailles but seeing how that scene evoked a different kind of emotion in her, savage and raw, maybe she wouldn't be looking for grace and style-over-substance mindset when it comes to this kind of thing.

This is probably what he meant. Considering Coco now runs Rarity's Big Boutique For You in Manehattan, it's kind of bullshit for her to not know what she's doing, and that she had a show.
And yeah, I'm fine with Rarity being okay with Photo Finish. Business is business, and it's been 7 seasons. She's still one of the most influential photographers, Rarity doesn't exactly have enough leverage to deny her without hurting herself.
Also, that could've been a nice piece of continuity, if we could've seen Rarity actually being busy doing something. Instead, couple episodes back she takes a day off from Canterlot Carousel, then there's two episodes not concerning her at all. If they aired this after like the Yak episode where the whole M6 was out of town, that would work great.
