I never got round to finishing undertale but got very close to the end (I think) does Sans show up at the end again or something because his popularity seems out of place compared to how much he is in the game.

I just want to add in that I only played like 20 minutes of the game, but that W.D.Gaster shit is cool as fuck, or at least that's how matpat describes it. If the game wasn't taken by the tumblr crowd and whatnot it would probably be praised here more often.

He does show up to judge you. This event alone has over 10 outcomes. He's one of the few characters that are aware what's really going on, with that save/load shit.
And if you play genocide route he's the hardest boss in the game with some of the best music in the game.

The whole changing of the FUN values is actually a really interesting mechanic, and when you mess with the game's script you can unlock some fun stuff. Yeah, he's of a "crazy prepared" type. He abuses the game casually(his "cool shortcuts") and during the fight. Figuring out how many times you died by the look on your face should account for something. Most likely was involved with Gaster - there's plenty of in-game stuff hinting he has a lot of scientific knowledge.

If you're into this kind of stuff there's an Undertale fic called "one by one" involving you, Chara, sans and Gaster. There was one moment there that gave me more feels than any MLP stuff, it just fucking destroyed me. You'll probably need to seriously know the game for such an effect though.

Different outcomes for different ways to play the game, basically changes the ending depending on how many people you've killed.

The game has different routes - true pacifist(only possible after one neutral playthrough), neutral and genocide.
Genocide is different from just killing every enemy you encounter(you'll get one of neutral ending this way, there's over 10 neutral endings) - you have to be doing that until basic enemies stop spawning. You'll notice the change in music. The plot is completely different, and some important bits of story are only told there. Most enemies and bosses will die in a couple of hits, except two bosses that, well, see for yourself
