Dash is hot because her being the quintessential athletic tomboy, who wouldn't say no to living life on the edge a little or enjoy physical intimacy carefree. She is a laidback personality who is easy to get along with, who would not find that appealing?

Applejack is a traditional girl who does not fear responsibility or the normal family unit, she is the female who would make a concious decision to raise a family despite the sufferings she herself and others (Her children foremost) may and will experience. In a sense, her personality is part that of virgin Mary (If you understand the metaphor of the mythos of virgin mary).

Of course she can be all those negative things. My perception of her is coloured by the reasoning that whenever she'd been depicted to break with her character to an ludicrous degree they've, the writers, have either warped her tomboyishness to only be an obnoxious prankster, someone who's suffering from a winner's head at every term, and, whilst I agree more on this point, very arrogant (As in she can never fail or be wrong) to win a challenge on an article close to her personality (Such as she's a good Athlete; see the friendly competition she has with AJ). I don't know if she's childish — that's a trait I'd associate stronger with Fluttershy (Which she is slowly growing out of).

Her patience, yes, so too her loving personality, but her caring side may get the best of her and shift the relation of power between her offspring(s). As to allow the child to rise itself, get off with demands and get away from justifiable punishment for bad behaviour. Not only that, but she may end up stifling the child by holding the rope too taut; not allowing the child to explore the world from a centre of safety, namely its mother and father. What a too caring and agreeable personality may up doing to a child is keeping it infantile and incapable.

Therefore I'm cautious about even consider Fluttershy to be some sort of best-mom-material. Thankfully, in the show they're depicting her growing out of this infantile side of hers.

A scourge many parents today have unleashed in their offspring is to raise a spoilt child that can't interact with others in a way that's moderated by such morals as empathy and sympathy for others. One way to grow this failure of a person is to be too caring. But this is by the side.

For me, AJ is the fundamental Western mother figure.

We seen in Stare Master that she can be responsible in taking care of CMC and other kids facing a monster by herself.

In Easy Being Breezies she developed in that she's no longer "too kind" to let her potential kids get "spoiled" with her kindness.

Also Discord act as her perfect counterbalance. The more crazy and free spirit who can act as the doo alternative to her normal overprotective self.

All of those examples are exactly what I were directing to with that it is a blessing to see her growing out of this childish part of her character. This is one of the few solid pieces of storytelling they've done in the entire series. Just look how they've mistreated characters repeatedly! Rainbow Dash, Pinkie pie, Twilight Sparkle and Applejack have all been done in a cloddish handle in numerous episodes.

Their dynamic as fundamentally different personalities may create a balance. The fact that Discord expressed him being self concious of the social stigma he is being subjected to, that no other pony never gave him a chance or that he is aware of the askew relationship he and Fluttershy shares, is definitely character growth that still would have me look at both as parents to be overall a very positive thing.

She's a sacrificing monarch that did not express the basic empathic response to one of the closet ponies, Twilight Sparkle, displaying a concerning psychological behaviour, control behaviour and neurotic behaviour and etc.. She didn't care enough about her own blood to ask a simple question of Luna's mental state of being. To add why I do not see her as the fundamental Western mother figure, she adopts her best students as children without taking on the parent role in earnest. Without the willingness to invest beyond the role as the mentor, yet giving off the wish find herself in a parent child relation, what she does is to signal as if she'd willing to take on the whole responsibility of the parent (Mother) but not the actual work of raising the child.

Celestia certainly has some of the traits of a mother, such as being prone to transfer expectations, unspoken and spoken, and then cut Twilight loose to act out her will on the world unattended by Celestia. Celestia also inspire her 'daughter', Twilight, to great acts but, fundamentally, Celestia is given a role of the demanding father (Yes, you read that right) instead by Twilight, who acts more on what she believes will impress/make proud Celestia. Remember how scared Twilight is of failing? That is the typical behaviour of a child that's been subjugated to emotional stress and faced it alone. This dynamic between Celestia and Twilight, amongst other individuals, belies, at least to me, this claim of yours. Celestia is the aloof immortal guardian who is another fixture entirely in an constellation of many archetypes.

Why I pick AJ as the basic mother is because how she involves herself in the emotional life of her family, which is basic to be the constructive mother, and that she sacrifices for her family and allows her family to suffer through an event on their own, in order to grow, without being aloof.
