Well, but you know what I mean, right? There is more motion and it is more fluid. Her face has more depth, more width. It isn't just a flat shape that changes, but an actual face to touch and hold and pet. There's cheeks there, and a snoot that sticks out. It feels more real. Like I can actually imagine what it would be like to stroke her face irl. That's something that I guess was lacking for me in the show. Just watch the trailer, on it's own it's enough to demonstrate she's an above average villain. Cold, violent, determined, physically scarred and crippled but mentally strong (or at least, convincingly pretending). Skilled, and has seemingly incorporated what's left of her magical aptitude into her martial art. Add to that the relationship (good? bad?) she has with her king and her eventual betrayal, and you end up with one of the more well-rounded non-main characters in the show.

I thought about that when I first saw her, and drew a parallel to Ciri from Witcher (The scar and makeup/deep black eyelashes is probably what did it) and how she compares to Geralt. Realistically, if you're going to spend your life fighting, you're going to end up with scars. I honestly think it'd stand out more if she had just one scar, if she had only lost one eye or only broken her horn.
It also helps that she doesn't draw attention to her scars, they're just there, as signs of a life lived.

The first time I saw her I thought she WAS an OC, but complimented her on being way better than average. She's got a matching, well-executed color scheme, she's got a cool and stylistically appropriate armor design, and she doesn't try too hard. She's "less than" a unicorn due to her horn injury, she's not a vastly superior half-dragon-alicorn as you'd normally expect from a character with scars.

But perhaps most importantly, in the first image I saw of her, she was smiling. A smile, not a malicious, shit-eating grin, but a genuine smile.
In the trailer she does seem more serious than I had anticipated, but at no point does she ever come across as edgy or brooding, which makes ALL the difference.

Why would she hide her wings? She'd intentionally be holding back if that was the case, and she's got no reason to. She's not a noble duelist who fights using her off-hand, she's an efficient warrior who makes a surprise attack on Canterlot without warning.
If her wings were damaged, that too wouldn't make any sense. Dash fought well enough to be on the frontline with only one wing, and she's not ashamed or disgraced by her broken horn, so she's got no reason to hide a scarred wing (or what's left of one) either.

So you're saying they're technologically advanced enough to have access to composite steel armor?
What they wear is the direct predecessor of the modern guard armor, and only unicorns (as far as we know) used heavy plate armor, so I guess you could technically argue their armor is lightweight at least in comparison.
But I digress. Armor is never a significant encumbrance, at most 30-50 pounds for a full suit of plate armor, worse is the heat and poor circulation it leads to, and the loss of peripheral vision.

You're the one arguing evolution. An underweight can throw a dart or something, but not AS WELL as someone with more muscle. Statistically the underweight is going to be more likely to fail his parry, take a cut too deep, fail to penetrate armor, not have enough range on his thrown javelin or arrow, etc.
Look, there's a reason all martial arts, boxing, wrestling etc. is segregated into weight categories. More muscle gives you a HUGE advantage in a combat scenario.

It grows with earth pony magic, and the harvest is so bountiful Applejack for example gets several large barrels (typically around 3) of apples from each and every tree. Even Appleloosa, a town that was built less than a year ago when we first see it, gives a sizable harvest.
Either way, typical farmlabor builds your stamina, but doesn't meaningfully impact your strength more than simply keeping you in good shape. You plateau very quickly.

Finally. I was thoroughly disappointed by the lack of edgepone in the first prequel comic.
The movie will probably be too short for proper backstory telling and good characterization. I hope they don't fuck up these prequels.

Crystal Empire uses colossal frostbows that can freeze entire clouds and lay waste to armies. Bow-related cutie marks are very common. They use lancers as well, and have a strong jousting tradition. Likely, they set up a defensive frontline to protect the valuable archers and their magical bows in the back row. Probably the most traditional army, and it makes sense that they'd be - their strategy hasn't been updated in 1000 years.

For Equestria, spears and polearms are the norm, but swords and maces do exist. Lighter armor is favored over heavy plate, but heavy plate did exist some 1000 years ago. As is typical for a melee, brawling is also very important. Slings and hurled weapons seem to be favored over bows. Also fairly standard, but they seem to lack an equivalent to the Crystal Empire's frostbows.
Ponies of all races make up the lower ranks in roughly equal measures, it's only once you reach the higher ranks that you start seeing special training and special forces emphasizing the strengths of exceptional individuals. Normal unicorns for example use their physical strength rather than their weak magical grasp to fight (Rarity kicking Applejack, for example), and most pegasi are likely too uncoordinated to use their wings more meaningfully than for relaying messages back and forth.
Exceptional individuals and groups can turn the entire tide of battle however, and would likely be kept in the background and employed where needed. Wonderbolts can fly so destructively they cut pieces of even dragon-spines, and they can create weaponized tornadoes (Dash does so small-scale in the pilot against the Manticore, and again against the Parasprites), Shining Armor has his magical shield, Luna's magical beam can topple castles where skilled unicorns can only make a scorch-mark, etc.

Changelings soften up the enemy through subterfuge, and strike with shock & awe, attacking as living artillery, destroying infrastructure and sending the enemy troops into disarray.

Griffons, judging by the historical segments in Lost Treasure of Griffonstone, wear heavier armor than ponies but don't even carry weapons, instead relying entirely on beak and claw.
Far too little to go on to say for certain, though.

Tempest Shadow as we see attacks with an airship hidden in and protected by ominous clouds. I'm guessing a small but well-equipped group both magically and technologically, relying on surprise tactics and overwhelming force to not let the opponent mobilize significant numbers and counterattack.

What they all have in common (except maybe starved changelings) is that even weak individuals are far stronger and far more resilient than what our world allows for, so weapons aren't as important. Tempest actually seems to prefer fighting unarmed over fighting with weapons. Dash might as well, but it's hard to tell since she's a black belt, into rapier fencing, into jousting, and can apparently wield a cutlass.

But when Applejack is up against the dragon in Dragonshy, she intends to pelt it with apples. Pinkie does the same with cupcakes in the movie. In the Crystal War timeline Pinkie and Maud carry rocks. Also there's that parody scene in Over a Barrel where the ponies throw pies.

Thank you for pointing it out, I could have sworn ice archery was a traditional Crystal Empire sport due to how common the archery cutie marks are and the visual crystal-esque design of the bows.
