If they don't care about MLP lore then they can just go fuck themselves and just watch Equestria Girls. Its a brand new universe and easy to catch on. Why even waste time and money on a movie that might as well be happening in another universe as it is completely irrelevant to the story from the main series and only connects through cameos of bg ponies and secondary characters in the beginning?

Why do people keep bringing up the Ice Age 3 screenwriter like he's relevant to the movie at all anymore? He was announced as the screenwriter in 2014, then McCarthy was announced as the new screenwriter when Lionsgate stepped in as the distributor. Other than Vogel, there's also Rita Hsiao who was later brought on as another screenwriter and was responsible for writing both Mulan and Toy Story 2 - both good movies.

Many people watching this will be doing so for the first time, tying too much continuity and lore into the movie would confuse first time viewers
How this isn't common sense to people is beyond me

This isn't your secret anime where every previous episode must be watched, and absolutely everything must tie into everything to make sense
Lots of people will be going to see this, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, young children and yes, us fans too.
Making the movie like a soft-reboot means they keep everyone happy
I think you underestimate how hard the staff worked to tick all these boxes all while making the best movie they could
