Nostalgia for MLP and actual 2D animation will boost it to 50%. But overall predictability and cliche writing will not let it go higher.

Also critics hate bronies and movies that were made to promote toylines. Pokemon First Movie was mostly shit upon because Nintendo dared to make a movie about popular toy franchise.
>>
>>30421823
Quick question. What legitimizes critics? I remember a thread on /co/ with some anons saying there's a critic who always has contrary opinions and lowered the score on so many movies and no one takes him seriously.
>>
>>30421963
Adult old critics hate edgy battles nad adventures. Winnie was ok as a peacefull story for kids.
>>

>>
>>30421979
People with opinions, basically. If you're gay enough to take yourself seriously analyzing movies with subjective opinions then you're welcome as a critic.
>>
>>30421979
Critics are experts at dissecting the movie. If your brain is small you will enjoy every movie no matter the score on RT. If you're intelligent then you will have a similar opinion as the majority of good critics.

The one who was always lowering the score was Armond White. A known troll who made contrarian ratings to bring attention to himself. Even Roger Ebert called him a moron.
>>
>>30421984

Moana was an adventure movie with battles of sorts and it was received well (I personally thought it was mediocre).

Big Hero 6 was predictable as fuck yet it was received well, but I see where you're going, the trailer makes the movie's plot seem very basic, and it's possible that might be the case because it's being made with people who never watched the show in mind.

And the first Pokemon movie suffered from having 10 minutes of character development for Mewtwo cut from the international release, so there's that.

It obvious Vogel aim at Zootopia 2 with this movie.

Except critics liked it because of clever writing and very good and relatable political message. Not "uuuuuuh you are bad so stop being bad and make friends!!!!" that this movie managed to squeeze out of 4 braindead writers. 2 of them haven't write anything before 1 of them wrote Ice Age 3 wich was shit and 4th is woman who wrote Equestria Girls 1. I think you have to think about the mentality of the critics and how they perceive the brand. I would guess they would have similar feelings towards MLP as they would something like Angry Birds where it's just a forced shitty franchise based thing. The low budget 2d animation of the MLP movie is definitely going to knock some points off for the critics who aren't much into animated movies to begin with.

There's no real gimmick or hook for the movie other than the possibility of a critic seeing MLP as a toddler brand and then being pleasantly surprised if the movie is actually good. I can't really see it getting much more than a 30-40 range on rotten tomatoes.

Animation is gorgeous and smooth, but color palletes are too dim.

Jokes are good for a kid's show, but mediocre on big screen.

Voice talent is great, but so is the voice talent on big budget films in general.

Story is basic, acceptable but predictable. Characters are pleasant and fun but there's not enough time to develop them all sufficiently. Will rely on knowledge of the show to fully enjoy Mane 6.

Too many deviations from main plot, and too many new and big characters taking the stage at once.

Overall: 38%. Screencap it, keep it.
>>
>>30423053
I think the problem is the lighting, it's way too fucking strong and as a result mutes the colours way too much.
>>
It will be fresh but it will be in the low 60s.
>>
mid 70s or 80's, if its not that, then its going to be super low.
>>
I still love this show. Season 7 has been really good so far.

However, this movie will be a total disaster. Nothing in the trailer made me laugh, except for the Sia joke which made me smile a little. Absolutely nothing is going to put people in seats who aren't bronies or little girls with their parents, based on the trailer.

5, maybe 10%. I'm not looking forward to it.
>>
>>30423115
Funny you say that, as I think season 7 is still incredibly mediocre, and this movie looks like a lot of fun and a return to form.

>>
>>30423237
That is reflected in the audience score: 77% for movie one, and 54% for movie 2. And to be fair the fine print average rating isn't that far apart for each movie, 6.2 for one, and 6.5 for two.

If I had to guess the discrepancy, it would be that the first movie came out when Spongebob was still fairly new, so a lot of people who didn't really quite get it yet reviewed the movie a bit more unfavorably than what a fan would. Meanwhile, Spongebob 2 came out after the series had thoroughly saturated the pop culture landscape. Pretty much everyone has seen a few episodes by that point and could very well know what to expect from the franchise.
>>
59%
I'm betting on most critics praising it for taking a predominantly little girl franchise and making it a better yhan expected yet still mediocre family movie affair. The score will could go up or down depending on if there any other animated movies coming out around then.
