Pink mary sues, pink mary sues everywhere. Faust created this show to NOT have those, considering them to be the downfall of many girls' shows (along with romance). Hasbro thought otherwise, put in pink mary sues (because it's "what sells"), and unsurprisingly, the show turned to shit.

The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well marked the first of huge shitstorms, due to the abysmal nature of the episode. We had some weak ones before, but never to this extent. The only reason The Last Roundup caused a shitstorm is because of a small minority -- Tumblrinas like Yamino, who actually wrote to Amy Keating Rogers and declared her to be abliest or whatever.

Season 2 had its ups and downs, but none of it actually tore the fandom apart. That rests solely upon Season 3 and beyond.
