I wouldn't say that it looks like shit, there are only three things that really worry me: The kids movir type of humor that is based on blatant observations but there is really not a joke there, everything about the sea ponies looks just terrible and the mane 6 looks weird most of the time. Oh wait, the song used for the trailer also gives me a bad feeling about the quality of the writting that the movie will have.

Villain actually seems promising, but of course, we will have to wait her real character to draw any conclusion about her. Animation looks incredibly fluid and the camera work is quite good at times. If I have to make a bet on how the movie will turn out, based on the trailer alone, I'd say that it will be a solid 6/10. Trailer feels like the letdown. Has a new more fluid animation but everything about the writing, characters and story feels "done" and "basic". Nothing beside the Storm King himself feels interesting. Forced incomptent obnoxious henchman probably only serve as some "cute disney mascot" for toys rather than any kind of character. Same with forcing the celebrity pony just to showcase known name on the poster. Entire movie just feels like "Hey LOOK AAT MEEEE THERES ACTION AND COLORS!" rather than something that make you curious about the story.


Here, this trailer give more hype, because it reveal interesting plotlpoints that excite you for the reveal and some characters to reappear.

Rewatching the trailer, I think that is safe to bet that the movie will be structured like this:
>10-15 mins introducing the mane 6, Equestria, ponies daily lives and the reason why Luna and Celestia are not in the movie.
>5-10 mins with the villain attacking and taking over.
>5-10 minutes of the mane 6 conflict about it and their friendship inspiring them to take their home back
>5 minutes of exploring the villains motivations/backstories
>30 - 40 mins of these set pieces with the movie-only characters, edgy pony hunting down the mane 6, edgy pony revealing fully her backstory to Twilight and the reasons why she is evil.
>20 - 25 mins dedicates to the mane 6 managing to make the edgy pony join their side, big dumb and poorly executed final battle against the ice storm king, oh nooo! ice storm is about to win BUT the power friendship wins at the end, small apparation of Luna and Celestia sealing the bad guy or just returning, everything goes back to normal, happy ending and everyone sings and dances before credits roll.

It will be a by the numbers kids story, the saving grace of this movie can be on how well the setpieces wilk be executed to at least make the movie somewhat fun to watch. Do not expect deep characterization or even a well developed conflict. The movie has 15 confirmed characters, run time will be about 90 mins. That does not give you enough time to develop intricate or even super interesting characters archs or plot line whatsoever.

I think the problem is in the big epic story they wanted to tell, but 90 mins is simply not enough time to execute that kind of story very well. A smaller movie in terms of scale like say, Kubo, Wall-E, The incredibles, etc. it's what this should have been.

This was absolutely fantastic. The idea started as a random yet cute slice of life filler but it ended up being one of the best events in the overall story. You have a real escalation of the conflict, new character dynamics that make every character deeper and richer from this experience, high stakes, nice permanent changes that go from simple things like Luna and Cherrywood's new found frienship, to Discord's role as a chaotic mentor, a set up for a new plot line that I am dying to see where it is going, a more profound exploration on Celestia as a character, and all of that wrapped in a fun, cute, visually rich and creative adventure.

I say that this is a perfect opportunity for you to spend the rest of the day with your dear and cool mom, but instead of doing something cozy and… boring, I was thinking of keeping the momentum we have by going to the dungeons to check the progress that General Moonlight and Aegia have made with the changelings.”
>Your mom motioned you to follow her outside of the study. The two of you walked down the now completely lit hallway… man, the day was still far from over… which was good, because school was tomorrow and you certainly wanted to rest for a little bit.
“I… I would actually love that. Discord mentioned that a platoon of changelings will come to our way in… five days, I think? He didn’t say much more about that and have to admit, I am curious to know the full details”
>”And so am I,” Your mom said, keeping her gaze fixated on the hallway “I want to deal with the changelings as soon as possible, and luckily, your plan has allowed us to do just that without Chrysalis ever knowing what hit her”

“It is actually fairly simple, I go to each classroom to meet every pony there, listen to them and their problems so I can really get to know them, then figure out ways to solve said problems for them as a classroom and for the school as a whole”
>”Hmmm, interesting” Your mom tapped her chin and then raised an eyebrow “But then, I have to ask something else, what will you do if you lose the election?”
“Then I will find a way to solve their problems as just another student because that’s my job as a prince. I mean, that’s what leaders are supposed to do, right? Help others even when they are not officially in powers”
>”Yes, that is absolutely correct, but…” Your mom chuckled “I think that maybe you’re missing something else, something very important, and guess what? I’m not going to tell you what that is because I feel like this is a lesson that you have to learn on your own”

“Why do you know that I need to learn a lesson for this? I just need to take this election with the utmost seriousness that it deserves. I need to be a serious and respectable leader for every pony in my school”

“… Why are you, mom Luna and Discord so cryptic? Do you have a knack with riddles or something?”
