There was one fimfic assuming that Spike is de facto familiar, which helped each alicorn over the time.
- That is, the egg was a test. And each "destined to be" alicorn is passing it. If familiar finds given pony to be "worthy" he manifests itself and serves to help him.
- Each of the alicorns had a familiar in their past and after "ascension" they tend to fade away and had familiar on its own, despite knowing that at all.
- Each of the manifestation though is a different personality. The familiar is "sitting" inside of him and the "host" is unaware of it.
- However, after ascension, the host is slowly degrading and soon will cease to exist by just "fading away".
- In this case Spike is getting more forgetful and clumsy. He got the point, that he is forgetting what he was doing. It was the time familiar starts to act out and slowly getting rid of host body.
