I think Pound and Pumpkin Cake are fully capable of speech now. While we've not seen them talk, they're pretty clearly singing in this scene here in Season 6.

Despite giving more insight into apple family, it:
- This episode has great pacing.
- It included some other recent ponies into the flashback story
