Last time on Soul Quest,

Our quintet of travelers had made their way out to the old hideout that Ulfsaar had suspected the Tainted could have taken his villagers. Arriving promptly in Fixer's automobile, the part departed to find guards in front of the cave, but Alexis and Pain had quickly dispatched them. Further in, the party found a slightly more intimidating gaggle of Tainted monsters, consisting of almost a dozen goblins and three imposing Ogres, but with the powers of their new found ability to use Souls, the four had managed to over-come the odds and defeat all of the Tainted, acquiring their Souls in the process. We continue where we left off...

You work your healing magic through the bars of the cage on the female fox in the cave. She looks up at you, eyes dilated and teeth beginning to snarl madly at you as the pup nervously backs away from her, but your magic passes over the fox's body and you see a flash of green in her eyes and a small green aura lash out of her body in a show of light before her eyes return to a more natural, less crazed look. She falls down flat to the stone floor of the cavern, aura dispelled, seemingly exhausted as she reaches up to rub at her head. "Oooooh...."

The pup rushes over to his mother in the cage, tearfully nuzzling against her, "M-mother! Are you alright?! Do you recognize me now?!"
"What... Reggie, o-of course I do. What are you..." she turns up to look at you next as the pup continues to cry mournfully into her fur, a bit confused about her surroundings. "I-I remember now. I was blacking out so much but, I think it's gone. Oh thank the Four..." she leans down and embraces her child in the cage. Meanwhile, you hear the combat continue behind you...

You swing your wrench at Garg's hand, causing his wrist to break free and send his free axe flying across the room towards Burlz' chest. "Agh, my hand! Burlz duck you fuckin--"

The axe embeds itself in Burlz' chest, causing his sword swing to stop mid-air upon missing all of you again as he falls over, dead from the blow. A breath of life leaves him and you see the Tainted's Soul appear besides him. In a fit of rage, Garg swings down his other axe and slices you across the chest (5/4) as you fall helpless, "You miserable bloody red snot, you're gonna regret that...."

Garg is taken away by Pain Train's sudden recovery, looking on with surprise as he comes tumbling after him to the cheering calls of the captive villagers. "What?! But you were-"

Pain Train grabs at Garg's angles and performs the Tumbleweed, switching around between the both of them as Garg drops his other axe and finds his horned head going straight for the stone pavement. "WHAT!? NO, SHIT, SHI-" he cries out in anger as he is slammed HARD into the stone, cracking it and leaving a solid impression of him in the stone as Pain Train stands triumphantly over him. Garg gives out a final cough
>"B-but... ponies.... how.... fughgh...." he drops his head back, and the familiar breath of Soul leaves his throat.

For a moment, the entire cavern is still, as the villagers watch the final take down in awe, at a loss for words... before the cave begins to shake with the sounds of howling wolves, screaming fruits, roaring panthers and jubilation so loud it could rupture ear-drums in the enclosed rocky space.

Fixer covers his ears as he squints in annoyance. "Aaargh," he groans in annoyance, pulling cotton balls from his hat to stuff in his ears, followed by a megaphone. "Would everyone please quiet down as we let you free?"

>Market shouts over Fixer's Megaphone, inciting the crowd to continue. He looks to Pain, who is flexing while standing atop of the dead ogre, the soul trailing into him, causing his muscles to bulge slightly larger,.

She is a bystander as the mother's wits come back to her and the mother and pup express deep and poignant affection for each other, and while she watches this, something clicks inside of her.

As the cavern erupts in cheering, she appears to be in another place. She stares off to the cell wall opposite her, at nothing in particular.

She blinks, and a tear rolls down her cheek. Her lips start to quiver as more tears follow. She practically collapses on the floor when she begins to sob, sobbing neither loudly nor quietly. Her cloak, which has seen better days, is draped over her, and her mane partially hides her face, now wet with her crying.

"Did...did we just win?" the ghost asks, floating in the air.

Pain says confidently, cracking his neck with a satisfactory sound.

As you shout into your megaphone, which does a fantastic job of also ringing across the enclosed space and shuts up the crowd instantly, many of them crouching down to hold at their ears and shake off the ringing. The bulk of them shake their heads and recover, staring at your mysterious shouting device with wonder.

"Alright, sorry..." one of them, a large bird of paradise says from behind his enclosed cage, "We're all just so relieved, we thought we were done for after the first group turned... and to defeat them all so easily."

As MMM immediately sets the hype levels back up despite Fixer just bringing them down, the crowd of trapped animals gives out a huge roar of approval at their conquering hero.

>"Thank you so much! Can you get us out of these cages?! I think I saw the key go down in the pit!"
>"What's a donkey?" another asks somewhat loudly, evidently unfamiliar to your statement to the ogre (who does not move to respond)

A wolf cries out from his cage, "You sure did! That was amazing, I don't think I've seen anyone but the chief or Lotus take down the uglies THAT quickly." He shouts, seemingly a bit panicked. "N-now can you help us out of these cages too? I just got dipped this morning," he says looking to the cauldron, "And I-I can already feel it, we need to see a healer as soon as possible!"

The fox mother and its pup are too busy in their joyous reunion to catch your deflated mood at first, the animals and plants from other cages giving you congratulatory cheers as well until you fall down and collapse with stress, sobbing quietly to yourself as the cheering nearest to you begins to come to a halt.

Noticing the fallen figure to their side, the foxes look on, reaching a paw towards you, just short of your cloak. "H-huh? Miss, why are you crying? A-are you hurt?" The fox pup asks, the mother nodding in turn at you.

"Whatever is the matter? Y-you've saved me," the mother adds on, "you saved all of us."

Pain says, hopping off his dead pedestal while Market hunts down they key.

"We're like ponies except we've got strong minds AND strong bodies."

"That was NOT easy." she corrects the crowd, before they ask about the key.

"Oh. Right, one sec." she says flying down into the pit, before flying back up with the key. She goes around unlocking all the cages.

"Just, gimme a sec, stupid thing-" she says, trying to get it to work before ultimately clicking them open, one after another.

Tears still flowing, she lift her head up slowly and barely to see them. She sniffles as she sees the fox pup's paw reaching out to her, then the fox pup's eyes. Then her eyes meet the mother's. She then sounds like she's gasping for air as she shuts her eyes, and her head falls back down in her forehooves.

Pain looks up,

"I think she's allergic."

She lifts her head up again, trying to breathe deeply so that she can talk, but the first couple of times she opens her mouth, she chokes up. She breathes once again deeply through her snout and forcefully breaths out through her mouth before she finally speaks, not saying what is wrong, but only making an observation.

"You and your mother must..." she takes another breath, "love each other very much..."

Fixer starts making an effort to start going around to the cages and opening them up, conjuring a blowtorch should they be locked beyond his normal capacity.

Triple MMM goes down the wooden ramps leading into the pit searching for the keys that fell off the ogres, and while he does so, he sees the cauldron of green bubbling not far from the campfire that that ogres were eating their meal from.

One of the captives turns and discusses you, "A 'donkey'...? Well, he's definitely bigger than the princess. AND strong. It's like some kinda... super pony!"
An older looking rabbit smiles and marvels up at you. "Whatever you are, my friend, we are grateful." She says, "How did you find us? Did the Chief send you?"

As Triple M is about to grab the keys, Alexis swoops down and manages to grab it before him, flying back up and circling around the cages as she begins to unlock each door one by one. As she does, some of the inhabitants she releases stare at her ghostly form with as much trepidation as relief. Some of the animals smile regardless, but still hastily move away / around you with a wide birth as you open the gate, though at least most utter words of gratitude before they scurry past. The exception seem to be plants, coconuts and flowers graciously jumping for joy at your releasing them.

Fixer also gets to work on using his own method to bust open the cages, and his reaction is a more generally warm one. Man of the animals stare in wonder at your device, having never seen such advanced equipment before on this island and learn the hard way to keep their curious faces away from it. In due time, every single prisoner is freed, and the many grateful villagers turn and give you all a deep bow in thanks.

"We cannot thank you enough for this, strangers," one of the wolves, like those on the guard, says to you. "I always held on hope someone would come, but I never expected Ulfsaar to send you... if I may ask one more favor before we leave," he turns to the bubbling cauldron down in the center of the pit, "We must spill the concoction in that pot before we leave. The Tainted can't be allowed to recover it should they come back."

The fox pup's hand retracts slightly as you deny his paw, both him and his saved mother looking at you with confusion and sadness as you wallow in your depression. Finally, as either Alexis or Fixer stops by and frees them from their torment, the fox mother also utters her thanks to them while her son gives Alexis a more curious reaction, muzzle formed in a quiet 'oooh'. The mother meanwhile reaches out to you with her snout.

As you finally speak, the pup named Reggie and his mother look at each other a moment, before turning back to you as they steadily move right up to each other again. "Why... yes. Yes, we do, very much. When I was cast into the cauldron the other day and slowly lost myself to the Taint..." she frowns, staring down at her pup, who then nudges his head against her tearfully, and she reciprocates it. "I don't know how much longer I had. I-I truly wish there was some way I could repay you."

"Yeah, Chief took one look at us and knew we were the right people for the job. Looks like it all worked out."
>"Hey Pain stop gloating for a moment and kick over this cauldron will ya? Who knows if they were boiling somepony inside. err, some animal/plant. Either way I don't want to eat what's inside"

Pain heads over to the cauldron bucking it to knock it over (not used to the power of his new muscles).

Fixer nods his head, petting the various creatures and plants on the head as they're let loose from the cages. "Yes, yes, yes," he says in a somewhat monotone, but not annoyed voice. After being told about the cauldron, he goes over to it and looks inside, preparing to conjure a bag of cement mix before Pain gets to work on it.

Alexis looks a little irritated as the animals look at her uneasily.

"You're welcome." she mutter under her breath [inaudible].

She looks to the wolf as he mentions leaving.

"Will you be able to find your way back okay? I don't think you'll all fit in Fixer's car."

She gets up. Her tears are now drying up, and she wipes them from her cheeks with her forehoof.

Softly, she replies, "There's no need for you to repay me. I'm already very glad I was able to help you and your son..."

She takes another deep breath and wipes away the rest of her tears before turning to see how the others are doing, and if she is needed to do anything else.

As Pain Train gets down into the pit and approaches the metal cauldron, the animals and plants you rescued look on with intense anxiety as you approach it, to speak nothing of when you buck it over. However, the strength you gained from the Ogre soul proves to be more force than you expected, and instead of tipping it, the iron bursts from the impact of your buck, and you feel a large amount of boiling, stinging green liquid pass onto your skin. Like a sudden dip in a steaming hot-tub, it has a burning sensation, as it seeps into your fur and spreads all across the floor of the cavern, absorbed by the dirt as all the villagers give an intense gasp. But other than the intense sudden warmth, Pain feels nothing wrong.

One of the wolves speak again, "....y-you might want to see a healer quick. It won't get bad if you get rid of the Taint now."

One of the flowers, seemingly more open to you while several of the animals pause in answering your question, nods its bud-like head and smiles. "Yes, we know the way back from here, and we'll be fine on our own. Though are you sure you couldn't stay for a feast?"

The fox mother and the pup give each other one more embrace, and look up at you with a soft kindness in their eyes. "If there is anything we CAN do, please, don't hesitate to ask us... you have no idea how happy I would be to do so."

The pup runs up and nuzzles into your hoof in gratitude one last time before you notice Pain below is drenched in the liquid of the Cauldron, and are reminded by the former captives to take a round of healing to those in need who were affected by the Taint in the cauldron, including Pain.

After some time, Aether heals all those in the cave, and the heroes leave the cave with roughly three dozen prisoners freed of their captivity and saved from the Taint. The stronger among the pack offer to escort their own home safely, and so the party is freed to go about their way towards their next destination as Fixer's car is brought back out for another drive down the dusty jungle road, this time headed South.

Back in the car, you momentarily pass by Kaba village on the road South as you head towards the other set of direction that Ulfsaar had provided you with before you had left Kaba. Down the road south about 15 miles and a little to the east, is the village of Seele, a mining village situated a ways down the slope of the larger of the two mountains on Kachina Island. Ulfsaar had mentioned its inhabitants were a 'strong, hardy folk' who wouldn't fall prey easily to the Tainted, and that they should seek out a person there by the name of Satar. Satar is an old friend of Ulfsaars and, rumor has it, he is the only one known to have gone up the mountain and lived to come down.

With those directions, the road south to Seele proves fairly peaceful, though every so often you do see remnants of carts or other signs of damage on the sides of the road, likely remnants from earlier Tainted attacks. Before long however, Fixer eventually sees up ahead what appears to be a large, stone-archway with the letters SEELE etched into their side high above the ground. As he pulls up, besides it are a half dozen carts with animals and plants situated around them, and besides the gate are two large piles of stone.

Fixer pulls off before they get to the town properly, looking for a good stretch of flat land to do some donuts while contemplating their journey.

Pain sniffs the liquid on himself, reeling.
"Don't need a healer, I need a bath."

As the pup nuzzles her hoof, she tilts her head while a smile appears on her face, accepting the pup's gesture of gratitude and feeling such strong emotions she hadn't felt in a long time.

Arriving at Seele, she get out of the car, having not complained about where she was sitting. She takes a look at the quaint town.

"Uh, hey! Wait!" Alexis says when Aether moves to get out of the car.

"Do you mind holding up a sec?"

"Oh, uh, is something the matter, Alexis?"

"Hey. Are you feeling okay? I couldn't help but notice you kind of had an episode back in the cave."

"I just wanted to see if you were alright."

You pull up along the dirt road just outside of Seele's archway, pulling towards you the eyes of every Tetran situated by their carts, completely captivated by the bizarre machine and those who come out of it.

After you depart from Fixer Heater's Wild Ride, you approach the gate to Seele. From outside the gates, you can see the village up a small slope. Its homes seem to be made partially of solid stone and others out of wood/normal building material, but with very few trees atop the slope. It very much resembles a sort of quarry, and the pounding of rocks can be heard from well beyond the archway.

The various animals and plants by the carts outside on the road turn and look at those approaching the gate with a wary look, but just as you are about to pass underneath the arch the two stone piles that were situated besides it rise up in a sudden display. The stones slick together and pull together like joints, the collection of rocks forming into a pair of bipedal creatures made entirely of stone and granite, two gem-like eyes in their heads (no visible mouths) acting as facial features as the two of them bring down their stone-like hands like hammers in front the arch, blocking access.

"HALT!" One of the stone elementals speaks, the first such creature of non-living material you have met in your stay on Tetra. "What is your business in Seele...?" They ask, though their question seems to trail off as they look at what you are.

Fixer Heater leaves the A/C on in the car for the two of you before moving out, giving you a moment to talk (though you can both see the village of Seele beyond the arch as described above, and the two Stone Elemental guards confronting Pain/Fixer as they approach)

"We're not up to anything," Fixer says, "But I'm sure that someone else is going to say what we're here for and better than I could so I'll go ahead and let him do it."

>"Oh good, I thought they were grave." muses Market Margin, looking to the sentinels, "Oh you know, buncha mythical ponies just looking to cleanse the world of the Taint." He says pseudo sarcastically, letting Pain flex again.

"Hey, hey, aren't you supposed to be a hypedonk?" Fixer says with some annoyance after letting them take the lead, "If this were an epic, this is where you'd break out in a thirty-five line verse."

As she walks back to the car, the loud boom the boulders make makes her jump in shock.

>"Hey. Are you feeling okay? I couldn't help but notice you kind of had an episode back in the cave."

She reaches the car and takes a seat beside Alexis.

She sighs, then says, "I... I guess it was a little difficult for me to control my emotions back there. I, uh, ah... back when we first entered the cave, I heard one of the animals calling for help, and so I went to go help. It was a fox, a young fox, and his mother was being taken over by the... by the Taint, right, and so I healed her, and..."

She looks ahead of her, at the headrest of the seat in front of her, and she takes a deep breath.

Her voice cracks a bit as she says "And seeing them... reunited again, the mother and her son, it made me feel a... a very strong emotion, something I hadn't felt since I was a filly..."

She looks back to Alexis to say "I... I never got to experience having a mother. Mm... my mother died giving birth to me..."

As she says this, her eyes fall down to the seat they're sitting on, and she rubs the seat in compulsion.

"Yeah yeah, alright," Fixer says, looking back at them, "Hey guys, what are you here for?"

The teen's eyes burst open.

"Oh. OH. You. Okay."

"Um. So...." she rubs the back of her head.

"Sorry. I thought you were just freaked over the Tainted, I didn't mean to pry into your...."

"Who the hell just drops something like that, I thought you were just scared." she says sounding a little angry.

"Heh." One of them chuckles, "That what we looked like? Good reminder to those who'd come here looking for trouble then."

The two stone elementals take a look between each other as they take another glance at you, "Well... you DO look like a bunch of ponies. But I don't know how that could be..."

The other nods, "Well, if you're wanting in then, the chief will probably be lookin' to talk to ya! So long you're not here on behalf of refugees... are you? We're mostly just here to keep out troublemakers and squatters." He points a rocky thumb towards the carts on the side of the road, "We already gave up the last of the food we could afford to lose with to this lot, and we ain't giving out any more."

The two step aside, and grant you passage to the village proper, "Otherwise, you're free to do... whatever it is you ponies are here to do! But, as bad as we've heard the Tainted is all across the island, we ain't had much of a Tainted problem here in Seele. Guess we had a bad scare earlier this week, but we managed to solve it ourselves."

At Alexis' louder tone of voice, her ears flop down, and she appears confused.

"Oh, uh, well, you asked me if I was feeling okay, so I told you how I was feeling. Did I say too much? I just wanted to tell you everything there was to tell you. Um..."

She pauses for a second and looks down, looking for the word.

"Sorry?"

Pain and Market make their way in, heading into the village, looking for the biggest building.

She tilts her head to the side, still looking confused.

"No... it's just something that you experienced. What would be weird is if you started talking about elephants or something all of a sudden, without being prompted to, or if you said that gravity makes things fall up. That would be weird."

The two rocky sentinels give you a firm nod, "World Champion...? Well that is one heck of a title! Hope we get an opportunity to see you prove it sometime," one of the rocks gives a light (still fairly hard) jab to Pain's shoulder as he passes. "Word hadn't reached us Kaba was in trouble, but good on ya for helping them out."

You mosey past the guards and into the village proper, where-in the appearance of a quarry only becomes the more apparent. Several pits have been dug into the ground and tunnels can be see made into the sides of the slope, several carts coming out filled with ore pushed by heavy looking stone elementals of all shapes, sizes, and minerals like the two you met out front. Dispersed among them are the rare goats, lizards, rams and mountain-dwelling animals, clearly sentient as you see them occasionally helping out with the operation. Though the majority of the town seems made up of the stone-creatures.

You quickly find the largest, loudest house in the village of Seele, and don't need to look far from it to see whom you perceive to be the chief: it is another elemental, a thin slab in his hands, but this one towers even larger than the ogres you fought in the cave, and with a dark, gray sheen: unlike the stone elementals at the entrance and around the camp, this one appears to be made of metal, a thick gray iron as his metal head turns to see you approach. His iron jaw drops open a bit, and he takes casual strides to greet you (making the earth shake a bit with each step). "Are my eyes deceiving me... or are my mines once again given the honor of welcoming ponies after all this time? Welcome!" He extends a solid iron hand towards the three of you, "Welcome to Seele! I don't believe we've had the pleasure. I'm boss around here, Fex. Can't say I was expecting this sort of company."

"Sorry, my hooves are dirty," Fixer says, nodding politely to the huge dude. "We're not here for much. What's good and what's bad here in this town?"

Market muses to himself and slightly outloud, before turning and acknowledging the ironman, "My thanks. I'm Market Margin, and the other unicorn over there (that's right, the magical kind of unicorns) is Fixer Heater. And right here..." He points to Pain Train, "Is Pain Train, my companion and world champion fighter and most likely the only donkey you'll ever see."
"Nice to meet you." Pain says short and warmly, being the only one to return the handshake.

She looks away, and Alexis hears the trunk of the car open. Aether opens the window on her side with her magic, and through it a pen and notepad come levitating toward her. She opens the notepad and starts to scribble some things down.

Fex gives a metallic sounding laugh, like an echo shouted through a long metal tube, as he reaches over to pat you harshly on the back, "Hahahahaha! Dirty hooves, that's a riot, friend. Ain't much need to worry about dirt when you work a quarry day and night."

He retracts his hand and scratches his head, "Well, there's plenty of good about Seele. Could see our grappling pits, or the mines themselves. Lots of fine ore always pouring out of there, could show you the whole operation. As for the bad..." he grimaces, "Hhhm. Nah. Nothing bad here. Not any more at least. Tainted don't get much chance to make trouble in Seele, not unless they want an avalanche shoved down their throats. Anything in particular you were looking for?"

"Hah!" He laughs, "I thought the same thing, no kiddin'! But I'm already sort of married to the 'Seele later' and the 'Let's Seele the deal' slogans I usually give out to travelers. Anyways, it's an honor to make all of your acquaintances.

As you grip on to Fex's hand with your hoof, Pain's newfound ogre-like strength kicks in, and Fex lets out a loud yelp as you squeeze tightly around his iron hand. He pulls it away before you can do worse, but you see you've made a large, noticeable dent in his hand, and Fex looks at the dent with a slightly annoyed look. "Yeeeow! That is quite a grip you got on you." He smirks, "Can't remember the last fellow who wasn't an Elemental to leave a mark on me like this. Not bad, Pain Train."

Alexis just sits there, again flabbergasted by Aether's reaction, mouth hanging open.

"Look. You clearly-"

"I-"

Alexis looks around trying to think of a response that isn't awkward.

When she doesn't find one, she vanishes.

She shrugs it off, and decides to get out of the car and see what the others are up to.

"Shit, second time today, my bad."
he considers his muscular state,
"Hope they don't think I've been hitting roids, my character's supposed to be clean muscle and TV friendly."

You successfully fade from sight of Aether in the car, leaving the socially awkward unicorn alone as you pass the gates that lead on into the village of Seele. You see what is described above with the mining operation, the various stone elementals and mountain-animals working the shafts and others tussling with each other in deeper pits. You successfully locate Fixer and Pain Train and MMM besides the largest looking elemental in the town made of solid iron, and manage to encroach on their conversation.

The ghostly girl has appeared to disappeared on you, leaving you entirely alone in Fixer's car. Seeing no sign of her, you successfully depart from the vehicle and make your way towards the village entrance. The carts filled with animals/plants on the side of the road are still milling about. As you do so, the two stone guards that had greeted Pain, Fixer, and Triple M form once more and block your path, their giant stone arms coming down like hammers in front of you.

"Halt! What is your.... by the Four, another one?!" The stone sentry turns to his part, who offers a meager shrug in response.
"I'm as confused as you... uh, well I'm assuming you're with the others that came in earlier then?" The stone creature asks, moving his arm aside. "Well you're free to go on in then. Enjoy your stay."

Fex lets out a short chuckle, "Hah! No bad here. I've been struck by worst. Appreciate a bit of muscle behind a hand shake."

As Triple M explains the situation, Fex smiles and looks on with keen interest as you explain your heroic rescue. "Impressive. I'm familiar with Ulfsaar, Kaba delivers food for the goats and rams here who can't eat what we pull out of the mines like we can."

However, as you bring up meeting with Satar, his glare goes cold and steely. He clenches his dented fist, and takes a step to lower himself to Triple M's level. "Satar...? Ulfsaar sent you here to talk to HIM?" He pulls himself back up, and looks at the mines. "I'm afraid you came all this way for nothing then. The 'shining hero' Satar we knew is dead..."
