Nightmare Star has the look of a tyrant. Swallowed by greed and wealth and seeking to get complete adoration and loyalty. Essentially an embodiment of the corruption of power.

Daybreaker is a God of War. Armor clad, viper like and reveling in domination. She wants a different power: Power of freedom and power over others. She works alone, and only for herself.

I like how they're two completely separate portrayals of what happens if Celestia lets go of compassion. Does she become greedy, or prideful?

While the name is debatable, Daybreaker looks top notch and is miles better than any of the fan concepts for an evil Celestia

No idea about daybreaker but I've witnessed Nightmare Star kill more than one powerful combo deck before, so I'm putting my money on her.

But yeah as others have pointed out, they're supposed to be the same character. The CCG occasionally got sneak peeks of stuff that would later be shown onscreen, just for this character the onscreen appearance got delayed forever and meanwhile the name and design changed. They don't just make up characters.
