Biggest reason is for the kids. Marriage pretty much has to be in the context of princesses and shit. She is far from perfect though. Can't that terrible episode be chalked up to fumble-brains? They overplayed one of her strong traits, honesty and made her an caricature of herself, a one-trick-jackass. They also removed large sums of empathy from her to push home the core of this inept slice of life narrative: be honest but be respectful of others emotions.

They're ruining the characters by their lazy writing. To me, AJ has never come off to be a gigantic asshole that tells the truth without one inkling of consideration for those that may get hurt. In a conflict, perhaps, and from being a bit of a dolt she'd definitely upset someone (Testing testing 1,2,3 comes to mind when AJ brushes off Rarity's creative idea to help Dash with costumes).
