>I'm anon and what is this?
Basically a thread with cuteness, fluff, and occasional stories and worldbuilding.
If you like moths, we like you. Feel free to ask specifics in the thread.

nonny^2, pls

Honestly, I would've been happy to just get to 500 posts and do thread #117 like 4 months from now or something, but there's still some greentext that needs to be posted and it might make sense to talk about whether there's enough interest to keep going here, or maybe a future schedule or way to announce when the thread is actually up or something like that.

Maybe that /could've/ happened before the previous OP fell off of page 10, but not after somebody decided it would be a good idea to bump the thread unnecessarily like 6 times into autosage.

I just want you to know, anon, that neither I nor anyone else in this thread discusses >danger and intrigue
to give you bad feels.

It's like if somebody eats squid or really spicy food or something... that's not to gross you out but because they enjoy it personally.
They are still your friend and they still care about you and will still go out for icecream with you after.
Because that's what friends do.

>Anon and Butterscotch descend the steps together, heading down to the marshy stream area below the boardwalk.
>Waspy and lampmoth can be seen in the distance on a another flight of stairs doing much the same, looking about as they wind their way downwards.
"Do you see them, yet?"
>"No," Butterscotch replies.
"What do they look like?"
>"Snails, Anon."
"But these are special snails."
>"Yes, Anon. They are special snails. But they still look like snails."
"How special are they, Butterscotch?"
>At this point, the poofy, white mothmare gives Anon a scowling look and then stops talking;
>He's doing that 'trawling' thing again.
>Anon pouts.
>Other than Hexferry, most of the other mares have caught onto the fact that not responding to Anon when he's acting like a dick tends to be an effective countermeasure against this.
>In fact, most of the time it seems to be the ONLY one.
>Other than calling him gay, of course. That also works.
>But to be honest, it's a little cruel and not everyone has the heart for it.
>This includes Butterscotch, even in cases where Anon really deserves it.
>Now in silence, aside from the burble of the streams below and the thunk of hooves and feet against the steps, the pair take in the surroundings.
>Large crossbeams stretch between the columns that support the boardwalk, stabilizing the structure upon which the village's plaza, buildings, and walkways around it are constructed.
>Various mosses and vines occupy the sides of the great supports which stretch overhead, underlying several acres of boardwalk and structures above.
>Earlier in the day, when the sun was still shining, its rays would have pushed through the slats of the high platforms, forming shafts in some spots against the bits dust and water-vapor on the air.
>>
>>30292332
>Now, though, it looks a bit more foreboding.
>The tangled roots of the plaza's lone maple hang eerily down the hoof-made wooden trellis which was assembled long ago to protect them from being damaged by the wind.
>Apparently, the tree had been gradually hoisted up, only a small amount each month for many, many months, and eventually the shallow, wide-reaching roots of the sweet-sapped tree extended far, far below the trunk back to earth.
>It's miraculous it survived such a gamble, but it would have surely died otherwise, given the amount of light blocked out by the raised village which was built up over the plot on which it originally grew.
>It has been long enough that soils have accumulated upon the roots, which now host various clovers, lichens, flowers, and mushrooms.
>There's even a small berry-bush growing thornily in one crook close to the top.
>Though he's never asked about it, the violently-red berries look poisonous as all hell to Anonymous, but...
>It's not as if he could reach them anyhow without risking a treacherous, multi-story fall to the marsh below.
>A buzzy voice calls from across the way.
>"There's one!"
>Waspy is pointing with a hoof, where lampmoth is looking in the same direction.
>Upon one of the huge crossbeams there is a slightly darker shape which can be seen as one's viewing angle changes while approaching ground level.
>He flies up and grasps it in both hooves.
>Bringing it to his chest, he pries it up off the surface from front to back, bobbing in the air with the added weight once he has it completely.
>Carrying the thing now, he speedily wings over to Anon and Butterscotch, the wildest grin on his muzzle.
>"This is what they look like," he says breathlessly, offering them a close look.
>Despite a slightly oddly-shaped shell, the creature does indeed resemble a snail.
>A large one, at that.

"How many of these things are there?" Anon asks with a flat tone, and blank look.
>"Four dozen, maybe? Probably more like two. They haven't started rafting yet but it looks like they're working on it. They should all be somewhere around the understructure here; none of the trees in this area are the kinds they like... they'll be damaging the supports by tomorrow, and beyond that, if they put down eggs then we'll have to do this every season since the juveniles would try to return here to spawn."
"And?"
>"They're supposed to migrate farther down the valley from here and.... ugh. I won't explain what a radula is, Anon, but suffice it to say these guys can sever a treetrunk in a matter of days if they cut at the right angle."
>In short moments, a flurry of activity starts, with shouts, grunts, and squeaks echoing beneath the deck, as the moths gather the gastropods into one spot.
>Anon is largely left to watch, though he is able to find one of the things under the stairs and hand it off to lampmoth, who takes it over to the others.
>The three ponies finely comb the area for more, rounding up the remaining stragglers and depositing them onto the chosen beam with the rest.
>As lampmoth and Butterscotch make a final sweep, Waspy flies back over to the western steps.
>"I think that's the last of them, Anon. We'll want to get them off all together as quickly as possible so they don't double back. Now that we have them gathered up, Butterscotch and I can ferry to and fro. Do you think that lamp and you can manage the catapult?"
"NOW you're speaking my language."

Gotta sleep. More later this week.

Interestingly, most species exist solely to procreate. Some don't even have digestive systems. The urge to breed would be strong in mothpones. Even so, here's that

>>30292445
>With a groan of exertion, Anon straightens his legs against the tension in the cord he's holding, drawing the arm of the catapult down with help from the pulley mounted to the frame.
>The rope wound about the base of the arm twists, storing the force Anon puts into it as he pulls.
>Lampmoth is off to one side, ready to slot the large dowel through the post to block the arm from throwing itself forward again until desired.
>Clutching the cord tightly, Anon raises his arms above his head, which causes the other, looped end of the cord to tug the shaft of wood down still further, until the arm is nearly horizontal.
>In a single, short, clean motion, as if extremely practiced, lampmoth swiftly moves the dowel through the hole in the post on the frame's south side.
>As it extends perpendicular across the width of the throwing arm, the arm is prevented from moving back up.
>Seeing this, Anon releases the cord and collapses where he is, panting.
"Next time... we'll swap..."
>The moth blinks and stares impassively for a brief moment, the large black eyes all but illegible.
>Then, seizing a hammer, some nails and two crossed pieces of wood, lampmoth removes the namesake shade with both hooves and secures it upside-down onto the end of the throwing arm in a matter of taps.
>Given its position, it looks like the inverted shade will serve as an impromptu basket, creating a cup to hold the snails before they're launched.
>They can probably be hurled off one, maybe two at a time.
>Anon hopes it's two, since this would mean only half as much sweat for him.
>How exactly the animals will survive the subsequent fall, Anon isn't sure, but he is quickly brought away from this quandary by a fuzzy, speckled face looming above him.
>Butterscotch stands there, one of the snails cradled against the fluff of her chest in the bow of a forelimb .
"Well?"

>late to the party
Yeah, maybe a little okay, probably a lot. It also doesn't help that Nips shut down the nigh-literal hype train that was askthemothponies.

Despite that, it still seriously fucks my mind that /bat and /plane do better than /moth. Maybe the concept is just too middling in terms of >a tiny bit weird and kinda edgy (bat) and >borderline stupid-tier weird and not at all edgy (plane) while we're just >pretty weird and a only a tiny bit edgy.

>>30306921
>We let it die on purpose
To clarify, I think >>30306938 means that we usually "let it die" and don't do consecutive threads since we don't have enough lurkers and contentfags to keep things mothy week in and week out, which is a shame, but a reality we live with.

>>30310964
I don't think there's been a tremendous amount of discussion on the subject, probably just because we have so little to go on in canon about the typical lifespan of other races/tribes aside from alicorns and dragons.

Outside of reading way, way into what are probably just writing errors in the show, there's no indication of exactly how old regular ponies can get before passing on, muchless any signals that unicorn ponies live longer than pegasus ponies or earth ponies living longer than other tribes or anything like that.

As such, I think it's safe to presume that your average mothpony lives for roughly as long as your average seapony/unicorn pony/changeling/zebra/griffon whatever.

>He's STILL not being nice. And he was such a gent earlier when giving that hoofrub after the party.
>Maybe the trick is just to get him in private, so he's not scared to look like a softie in front of others.
>The mare steps away, wearing a slight scrunch on her muzzle.
>She loads the creature into the catapult as Waspy flutters up, promptly setting the snail in his grasp down.
>Having recovered some strength, Anon returns to a standing position.
>The silent, brown moth waves them over with a hoof and an upward nod, and gestures for Waspy to load his snail too.
>Everyone gathers and puts a pair of hooves (or hands) onto the release-bolt set earlier.
>Like a conductor wordlessly cuing an orchestra, the carpenter moth rocks forward and back several times, starting a silent count.
>On the third motion back, the group sharply heaves on the skewer, tugging it free of the post.
>The catapult bucks against the sandbags and the weight of its frame as the throwing arm flies forward and strikes the crossbar, and sending the two creatures in its basket arcing into the eastern horizon.
"How are they going to-" Anon starts.
>Before finishing the thought, he notices the pair of snails – surprisingly – do NOT go crashing to the treeline at horrifying (and likely-fatal) speeds, but instead seem to linger and hang in the air.
>Squinting, Anon is just able to make out two pairs of milky-transparent wings against some far clouds.
>Apparently their shells have some opening for wings to come out.
>As Anon watches, and begins to wonder how he failed to notice this earlier...
>An insistently-prodding hoof brings his attention back from the sky.
>>
>>30313251
What is this sorcery? Snails with wings?
>>
>>30313251
>If the wordless brown moth had been looking at Anon while poking him, this gaze was averted as soon as he looked down.
>The pony now stares straight up at the sky, head leaned WAY back for a few moments, before flopping it forward again in a great, bodily motion, floofy antennae bouncing once after the fact before dispelling the rest of their momentum.
>This takes Anon a moment to process but eventually he gets it;
>It's a catapult-motion, and perhaps the most condescending request to 'do thing' ever presented him.
"Wow. Okay."
>He walks back to the catapult to draw it once more, and notes Waspy and Butterscotch have disappeared, probably off to fetch more ordinance.
>Placing his feet on the end of the frame and fighting with the cord again, he strains out:
"I hope... Goldie... and Caramel... will appreciate... how SWOL I'M GETTING!!"
>Showing no signs of caring about this comment, the moth slots the dowel in mechanically and Anon collapses like last time.
>Shortly, the fetching team returns.
>As they place the snails in:
"Why didn't you guys tell me they had wings?"
>"Would we really bother flinging them into the sky like this if they didn't?" comes Butterscotch's reply.
>"And how else do you think a snail could MIGRATE? They weren't here last week." Waspy adds.
"I don't know. Do I look like a zoologist?"
>"This is why you have to draw the catapult," Waspy needles.
"Also I can't fly, so I'm no use reaching the things."
>"That too," Butterscotch ascents.
>They circle the catapult and prepare to repeat the business of withdrawing the pin.
>As the brown moth 'counts':
"I'm not just some BUTT, though. I'm good at stuff."
>Butterscotch does not sugarcoat things for him;
>"You're a bit of a butt, Anon."
>Tugging in unison, they send the next pair off soaring as well.
"What about all this help I'm giving here?"
>Waspy chimes in, "Well, we feed and clothe you, and give you shelter, and-"
"Okay, I've heard enough. You friggin' moths have no respect."
>>
>>30313529
That's qt, I like it. Anon is a butt.
>>
>>30313529
>Butterscotch rolls her eyes as she moves off, Waspy just behind her.
>The man always argues. Even with no ground to stand on.
-------------------------------------------------
>The sun is on its way toward setting as Hexferry leaves Sequin's shop with a list of figures and supplies for Dawn.
>"Bye Hexferry! Thanks! And I owe you a drink, alright? Don't let me forget!"
>The hawkmoth mare fully intends to let her forget, having gotten her share of juice already, though unbeknownst to Sequin, and also generally averse to alcohol, since it gives Caramel an even easier target for suggestively razzing her, which is bad enough as it is.
>Regardless, Hexferry's happy to have helped out the powdery seamstress, whom she's glad to see now working quite harmoniously with Meisa;
>Given their similar interests, the two could have readily wound up in competition after Sequin decided to set up her business in the village, where Meisa was already long established.
>The hawkmoth arrives at the lodge with the slip in hoof, and enters to find Dawn Gleam back at the counter, matching up items from some sheets of parchment with the wishlist she's compiled from the village moths.
>"Ah, excellent timing. You're back from Sequin's?"
>Hexferry nods.
>"Great. I spoke with Shimmer and Pepper Dust while you were there, and Minty and Birch got back to me yesterday, so everypony's spoken for."
"What about Ember?"
>"Already have that. She always just asks for matches."
"Oh."
>After a pause.
"And Virgo?"
>"He always just asks for BITCHES."
>Hexferry mutters under her breath, squeakily.
/Typical Virgo, flaunting his true desires for all the world to hear./
>Dawn notes her disapproval, and clarifies. "Pterodeer dams, hun. He wants to start a stables out here but he needs a few hatchlings first. What do you think I said?"
>Hexferry scrunches.
/Typical Virgo, hiding his true desires from all the world so that none's the wiser./
>>
>>30313848
>"Okay, I'll have you make one last stop."
>The mare looks up.
>"Moon Dust's."
>Hexferry sighs. It's been a long day.
>Dawn smiles.
>"There shouldn't be any heavy-lifting involved; I just need you to take this order-slip, have him look at it, then ask whether he'll have any veggies left over."
>This is one aspect of the village-economy that Hexferry is actually familiar with, since she and Moon Dust are neighbors, and his yields mostly wind up at the village café, which most moths visit a few times per week, her included.
>If he has extras left over this year beyond what the café uses up plus what he keeps for himself, then he's stepped up his craft.
>As the evening's light works its way through the different hues of the sinking sun, Hexferry reaches Moon Dust's, on the way passing Anon who's idling by the contraption with another moth. It's not clear what they're doing.
>Though expecting to have to knock and wake him up, Hexferry finds Moon Dust standing next to the large, vine-covered trellis out front, speaking to Shimmer Light.
>"I-I shouldn't?"
>The cool mare shakes her head.
>"The fluff on your ears is too thick. Nopony would see it."
>"Hmm." The stallion's brow furrows; apparently he hasn't considered this.
>A bit nervously, Hexferry interrupts.
"H-Hi, you two."
>Shimmer looks over, a bit surprised that she's up.
"What are you talking about?"
>"Moon Dust wants to get an ear-ring."
>The mocha stallion nods.
>Hexferry suppresses a blush; Moon Dust was well on his way to becoming the girliest grown moth in the entire village.
>Well, other than Gemini.
>>
>>30313940
>Although, on second thought, 'girly' and 'feminine' are not quite the same thing, so the statement probably stands.
>"I recommend a choker."
>"That sounds nice."
>"I'll see what I can do."
>Not giving him a chance to think again, the mare brusquely plods off.
/She's getting better at this, gradually./
>Given the hour, it's approaching the time Shimmer leaves for bed anyhow.
>Not aware Hexxy is by other than just eavesdropping, Moon Dust makes to go back inside.
>He probably hasn't had breakfast yet, having woken up early to speak with Shimmer Light. His tousled mane seems to agree with this theory.
"Moon Dust?"
>He turns around.
"Dawn wanted to know what you'd have to spare after making your drop to the café next month."
>The stallion looks at the slip.
"Oh, uhm-"
>**CCH-KLKK**
>The sound of wood striking wood splits the air.
>Hexferry flinches and reflexively raises a hoof to her head as two blurry shadows pass over them.
>She squints into the sunset in the direction of their source while Moon Dust looks the opposite way, craning his neck as if to see something.
>About to issue a reaction along the lines of "What are you idiots doing?!" at the silhouetted party by the contraption, she feels a gentle bump at her shoulder.
"Hexferry, look!"
>The mare turns to see two winged specks in the distance against purple and red clouds, the sun's rays occasionally glinting off their forms.
>As they fly, they seem to be almost playing – dodging and swooping and weaving around oneanother.
>It almost seemed... romantic, in a way.
Crossly, to Moon Dust: "What ARE those things?!"
>He replies innocently. "I don't know, Hexxy. I only just got up."
>Hexferry takes a breath, trying to remember how nice everyone's been today.
>She puts her irritation aside for a moment and for once, it's just that easy.
>Her cheeks flush a bit hot and she smiles involuntarily in the orangey light from behind them.
>She looks at Moon Dust.
"How about we go ask?"

I kind of want to do it with a character sheet and rolling. I could link the perk sheet after we do the basic stuff because we need to pick five perks for our character.

>What we need to pick for our character
-Name
-Sex
-Age
-Special Talent
-Virtue
-Two Tag skills
-Skill point distribution
-Color/Design
-Mane color and style
-Cutie mark
-Physical description and characteristics
-Cutie mark story
-Background history
-Two traits(We can't pick Stable Dweller)

This is all we need.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aZQdzhKQnLYGf3KgU-pXmO7C2oI4q_4XUOIWMZvIQio/edit?usp=sharing
Here's the core rules which have the traits in them.
>>
>>30314014
I'd read it.
>>
>>30314013
Whoa, did you actually read the whole thing from >>30224163 ?
Also, should I leave the end there? I think I addressed everything, unless there's any outstanding questions.
>>
>>30315679
I read it all. It was a bit slice of life for my tastes, but I did enjoy it. I think everything was properly addressed.
>>
>>30315074
Wouldn't it be easier to just adapt a different moth to this, or are you specifically going for a different thing?
It also might be a bit uninteresting to people because not everyone is into Fallout or Fallout: Equestria. I've only played Fallout 1 and never got into the FO:E stuff, personally.

And if you really need to make a character, and want it to be thread-made instead of just by one person, it'd probably be easier to ask for a couple things, discuss, then move on to next parts once people agree, though that would require people.
I'd ask initial stuff based on either:
WHO they want to be: Sex, Age, focused stats of SPECIAL, maybe species of Moth (which, by the way, almost no Moths have Cutie Marks), Physical stuff and maybe background.
or
WHAT they want to do: Sex, Age, focused stats for SPECIAL, focus of Skill Points, Traits.
Simplified asks because I doubt anyone's going to read into the 110 page rulebook at all.
The character sheet's really neat, though.

Also, what the moth is Virtue. Not just asking for me but anyone else who doesn't want to look it up. Anything here I know is because of FO1 knowledge and generalized PnP knowledge. I doubt anyone in this thread has ever even heard of this system before.
>>
>>30315993
Hrrrm, I could make the character based on what we want. I was also going to ask about our setting, I'm down with anything and cool with anything. Regular Equestria, FoE Pre-War Equestria, Dust Valley and the surrounding lands, Griffinstone, etc.

>What is virtue
"Your virtue is that one good trait that can help you weather the worst that the wasteland throws at you. Having a virtue is what separates player characters, even the wicked ones, from the completely irredeemable raiders. A player may choose to play a character who has not discovered her virtue yet. But all player characters must have a virtue."

This is a virtue, famalama.
>>
>>30316073
A virtue can be a lot of things. Here are some based on the mane six.
>Loyalty
>Honesty
>Generosity
>Magic
>Kindness
>Laughter
>>
>>30314014
>>30315263 here. Depending on your desire for (You)s on this, you might tell your FoE buddies on Leddit or Discuck (Discord :^)) to come lurk here, run your CYOA in this thread on 4chins but also consider the unthinkable and make CYOA-specific threads on 8ch's /pone/ or even ponychan, probably on /chat/.

I say this because you're swinging for a pretty weird intersection of dusty bughorses, grimdark/action/adventure, and FoE(?), which might put some people off, so you might want to widen the amount of exposure a little.

>>30316084
>virtue
Can you give us a quick sentence about why the hell a mothpony would ever leave mothcountry for the Wastelands, or what the essential premise/locale will be? I think that'd make the decision a bit easier.

I don't really want any (You)'s, I just think it would be fun to run a moth CYOA. Again, we don't have to do grim dark unless we're all okay with it. I'm fine running a hope filled CYOA with friendly poners and easy to tackle challenges.

>Why would a moth poner leave the moth country
I was thinking about this. I guess a moth pone could leave out of curiosity and a wish for adventure.

>FoE friends on leddit and Dicksuck
I'll tell you this now. They're all a bunch of blue pilled left faggots and communists. I was kicked out of the Discord and I never even knew they had a Reddit page. I was banned from the server and only have one FoE friend.
>>
>>30317270
>fuck the (Yous)
Well alright, anon. It's a bit hard to run a CYOA without any (You)s at all, but y'oughta get a couple just hangin' out here, if that's most comfortable.

Ponychan could easily turn to virulent cancer on you, and I've lurked 8ch a few times but have never really seen generals or CYOAs there, so participation-levels would be an experiment. Trying mlpol.net would be similarly interesting to attempt. If they define roleplaying the same way we do here then it's unlikely you'd be scruffed, at least.
Anyhow that might be interesting science but might also be too much overhead, depending on your tastes.

>Just using an FoE system, not necessarily FoE setting
Oh, okay. That makes the "why would moth leave" an easier question to answer, since Equestria isn't necessarily a roiling hellscape.
>>
>>30318405
>Grimdark only if desired
Okay. To the other anons who might read along once this starts (e.g. >>30314343), do you have a strong opinion on this? I'm personally fine with the grimdarks but having something more upbeat will probably be better for the thread.

Maybe, >>30317270, you start us off in a normal (and non-FoE) type setting and give us the occasional story-path that would lead to things that are more fighty and treacherous, but don't railroad the plot to necessarily go that way unless everyone seems to want that.

Maybe you could have the thread make SOME decisions about where to sail, when to fire cannon, run away, etc., but not have the entire thing happen out on the water so it's not necessary for you to become a fullblown sailor just to run the story coherently. You could have plenty of intervening ports and islands and such inbetween for onshore adventures, or just do one section by boat.

Really, none of the choices between airship, sailship, wagon-caravaning, bushwhacking, straight-hoofin-it-around-the-place, etc. are truly mutually-exclusive, so although I'd encourage you to do new-and-fun-things, you don't have to leave your comfort-zone the whole time.

Name: Mora the Red

Sex: female

Age: young adult (20ish)

Virtue (undiscovered): Consideration – thinks of all parties before acting ("badguys" too, if relevant)

Special Talent: anons seem to say regular mothponies don't have CMs

Tagged skills: barter, survival, unarmed no CM so I think we're supposed to pick 3

Traits: I think it's a MAX of 2, actually, so I don't think I want any. Say so if you insist otherwise.

Skill point distribution:
str: 6
per: 8
end: 6
cha: 4
int: 6
agi: 6
luk: 4

Color/Design: >>30219058

Background history:

...I'm going to have a swing at this. Anons, feel free to chime in if anything should be tweaked or if someone has an outright better premise than I do.

Mora is a type of diurnal mothpony (Creatonotos gangis) that is rare is moth-country. Given the very limited number of subjects in the literature, it is not known whether parents of this type TYPICALLY leave their young to hatch and grow up on their own (as some other species of moth ponies are known to), but this was certainly the case for Mora.

After hatching and spending some time munching leaves as a grub, she wound up being adopted by a deaf artisan moth, who lived out in the woods and made a living gathering / creating goods from the forest and selling them to travelers and merchants — hard-to-find flowers and fruits, rope and twine, chitin-structures (used for weapons and armor, collected from some of the larger, beastlier insects from when they die in the forest), and occasional small woodworks.

Being deaf, he was not much for conversation, and living a fairly hermit-ish lifestyle away from other fillies or colts, Mora has recently learned she's behind the curve on socialization now having stuck out on her own. Given her coremata, she's not readily trusted even amongst moths, muchless by other tribes of ponies or even other species.

Long story cut short - sickness went, didn't get to read the previous thread, commenting on stuff from it now due to feeling that's the right thing to do. Also, apologies to the one whose story I referred to back then. I thought it was ending at 30203829, not at 30204940. Hence the misguided review.

I wanted to say I really enjoyed the latter part. Not only did it feel like a satisfying ending, but it also struck a nice balance between the interaction and inward reflection. What was most enjoyable were the little todbits about history, surroundings and everyday life. It really made one feel immersed in the world, if for a short while. Thank you for that.

That being said, onward with the rest of it, before it gets archived:

>>30209650

You mean to tell you're the one who wrote the Anon x Shimmer story?

Part 1/?
>>
>>30336652
>Both of the Shimmer stuff.
I'm not sure I know which AnonxHexferry story you're talking about. It depends on when it was made, because I was usually pretty good about reading stuff near when it was originally posted. I can't exactly remember what influenced me to start ShimHex.

I also wrote the Breakfast stories, hence why people refer to me as either "Breakfast(Anon)" or "ShimmerAnon." That last Anon was replying to me about Shimmer's height. I initially had her as somewhat shorter, so I wrote that little part of the backwards moth village thing I wrote last thread to include a taller Shimmer idea.

And quick talking about Sepia's forgotteness, I almost never saw her mentioned in the last twenty-or-so threads back when we were actually consistently alive. That's part of the reason I tried to include her in as many of the Moth Villages as I could.
I hope you do make that; I try to do that, myself, but there are too many to include every time it happens.

Might as well go with Horse Sense (I).
If we're actually L6 already then Dust in the Eyes (I). If not then Thief.

>start on land
That's fine.

If you don't already have a clear idea in your head, I recommend we start in a place I've working-name'd Forktown (labeled on the map), which is where I headcanon Plum to have originally lived before moving to the village of the lone maple (we've hilariously never decided on a proper name for it even though it's where the thread moths are).

I imagine Forktown to be sort of like a moth version of New York. Though it's population is nowhere near being in the millions (it's really just large-town sized), I think of it as the biggest moth-settlement there is and imagine it to be a fast-paced, trade-driven, everybody's-got-problems-so-I-don't-need-to-hear-yours sort of place as NYC is.

We might speculate that Mora roughly followed the western leg traderoute northward until reaching there, where we might start our story.

If you already had a concept of where things should start, maybe the map will be helpful otherwise. I can get you a PSD/XCF if you want to add things to it.

Related, fun tidbit I learned today: the Heinessen archive stuff has not actually disappeared into nothingness. In fact, it's possible to download the entire ~225GB of images and posts which appeared on the boards it tracked (which is mostly pony stuff since only /mlp/ had fullrez saved IIRC).

In addition to what >>30353772 said, don't forget regular slings (the kind you spin around), regular whips, bows, and those bolo weapons. Maybe also staves with rocks fastened to one or both ends. Depending on area, they might also have jars or satchels of dust (or liquid mixtures) to temporarily blind, disable, etc. Blowdarts also an option, as would be knives, javelins, and axes which I would imagine to have chitin or bone blades, for the most part.

I don't personally imagine the mothlands to have (or at least mine) a lot of metal so if you saw much of that, it would mean something really serious was happening for them to trade for the amount and quality you'd need for proper weapons.

I think it's safe to say also that the mothlands are not really run by a single ruler like Equestira; it's more communal or tribal. As such, I think you'd see guards/militias vary quite a lot more than in Canterlot or Cloudsdale, since there's no central authority dictating military doctrine and providing identical equipment to everyone and stuff.

>dust of different moths may have different uses/effects
That's been sort of a loose headcanon for a while which could maybe use more development. The only 'thread' moth this is concretely established for is Ember/Sunspot, whose dust is explosively flammable once enough of it's collected together. Pic related.
>>
>>30359448
>That's been sort of a loose headcanon for a while which could maybe use more development
So what kind of effects do you think the dust from different moths would have?
>>
>>30359766
Are you asking for the purposes of the tabletop-y thing being planned or just for general worldbuilding?
>>
>>30360465
Both. I am really starting to love mothponies.
>>
>>30360663
:D

As with most other things moth, we might leave it to vary in specific cases (both by species and by individual) so we're not introducing concepts that are really disruptive, more just adding a hopefully-interesting option to threadgoers' toolboxes.

To avoid making every single moth a friggin' x-men, I'd expect that the majority of effects would not be direct or physical like Ember's is, but instead tend more towards indirect things such as social effects, like putting others at ease, fostering openness, etc. or like I could imagine a badguy whose dust makes others lose confidence/feel fear more easily. Others might have dust that affects only certain individuals kind of like the way allergies work where it's unpredictable who might be susceptible to good/bad/mixed-blessing type effects. I guess another avenue would be interactions with certain (kinds of) plants or animals which might make life easier/harder in some ways.

To dilute/reduce the everyone-has-superpowers aspect a bit further, I might suggest that for certain effects to manifest, there might need to be something else going on to catalyze or activate them. Maybe a certain moth only produces dust that does something notable when they're stressed out or sad. Maybe some dust has a certain effect only when combined with certain magic or compounds or things like that, like only works in moonlight or etc. etc. Carrying that idea further, it could be that most moths never discover that their dust does anything useful since the conditions for seeing them might never occur, or simply not last long enough or be clear enough to be noticed (especially since *most* of them would not cause obvious, glowy unicorn-type magic occurring in just a few seconds).

That's just some ideas. Maybe other anons can improve.

Can you imagine if it was the opposite?
>Moth wants to be a bad guy
>Has dust that makes others gain confidence
>>
>>30365504
I mean, if said badguy moth survived for very long after deciding to go evil, they would probably be a stonecold badass, what with having to deal with brazen, overconfident fucking heroes whenever they tried to do something bad. Perhaps even their own menchmoths would try to take the post of 'evil honcho' away from them under artificially-inflated egos and they'd have to put down mini-rebellions all the time if they stayed in one room for too long.

It might be like having one of those items in some games that makes more enemies spawn or increases random battles. Sure, they slow you down, but if you can hack it under that pressure you get pretty strong after a minute. And confidence doesn't always mean advantage; a lot of drunk people think they're great at fighting but very few really improve when drunk beyond maybe being able to take a hit or two a little better simply for lack of feeling it, and offensively they lose a lot since it's hard to stay coordinated or react on time.

If moth were truly diabolic, he/she could just go to places where emotions and antagonism already ran high and then just HANG OUT. Everybody at the tavern or protest or semi-hostile militarized border would reach the conclusion their own side could easily win, and chaos would break loose in a real hurry. Moth could just stay out of the fray and watch the destruction. In a way, that would be scarier and more dangerous than the opposite power, really. Moth could get leaders or soldiers to break treaties or ceasefires, start riots, etc. Becoming a close enough adviser to sunhorse or moonhorse might be enough to bring Equestrian government and diplomacy to a standstill, if not far, far worse like getting one of the sisters to banish the other again.

>Although she doesn't always act the part, she's probably the best-looking mare in the whole village.
>Slowly, you move your eyes up, from the poise of her calves and thighs to her plush rump which flows right into that slight hourglass to the small of her back.
>The muscles about her shoulderblades shift under her rich, dark coat as she changes her stance, and her wings fidget rapidly for a moment like a living strobelight, before folding still.
>Further, her long, well-kept mane tumbles off the nape of her neck, and past her feathery ruff, shining in the moonlight.
>The wind blows at both of them gently.
>Against it, her ears swivel to hear your deepening breaths as you feel a crest approaching.
>>
>>30379942
>Her feelers bob as she lowers her head for a moment, eyes closed, an almost nostalgic-looking smile on her muzzle.
>Finally, she turns her head to look at you, a pair of blinks drawing attention to her gorgeous eyelashes, before she fixes you with those big, turquoise eyes, which are both otherworldly and deeply expressive at the same time.
>As you regard oneanother, her mien is something oddly adult and self-assured, which you don't often associate with this mare...
>Perhaps she is in her element here, however astronomical it might be for someone to have guessed it in advance.
>You step closer. The rest of the world has all but fallen away.
>There is only the impulse from the motion of your fingers and the image of this stunning creature filling your mind.
>You are about to lose yourself in this moment as you feel it looming now, making you weak.
>Hexferry glances at her watch, and as you take stock of her only an instant later, you see her brow is slightly furrowed.
>This makes you a bit tentative, but you say nothing.
>She looks at you quite directly, but it's sidelong in every way but angle.
/Oh, no. She's having second thoughts isn't she? I bet she expected this to be a one-minute wonder./
>You try to hurry it up, but you've broken your rhythm and you're again noticing the onlookers and the tightness of your tie and the looseness of your belt and the phlegm in your throat and the sudden inignorable desire to scratch at your armpit.
>Her nose twitches, followed by her upper lip.
>You observe intently.
>Time stands still.
>Then...
>In a hurdling, vertiginous instant, her features warp apically into the scrunchiest, tensest rumple of muzzle-and-cheeks you've ever beheld.
>Your fingers halt completely.
"H-hexy."
>>
>>30379950
>Does she realize what she's doing? Is this some nervous tick?
>It is as if a star collapsed somewhere within her skull and it begins to squeeze everything in her face together in the most alarming and unsettling way – disapproval and tension made manifest.
"Hexferry!" you shout, "S-stop making that face!"
>Just when you thought it could not grow more startling, it does, as a tinge of fury blossoms into the scrunchy mix of pone-face before you.
"Hexferry, p-please!" you plead, your eyes watering from the sight of this bodily contortion.
>"Let's do this, Anon. You wouldn't want to leave her disappointed, would you? (...or any of us for that matter.)" Goldie says firmly in that husky, little-heard voice of hers.
>"Yeah, Nonny. Show her you can handle a little pressure," Caramel crows after.
>You snort and shake your head, trying to focus, a few droplets of sweat flying from you as you do so.
>Literally everything about this situation has ceased to be in any way erotic, but you crank onwards, even as your sex tries to wither under your touch.
>You find yourself hoping that this really IS a dream, after all.
>With short, impulsive strokes, you speed along so this can just be over with already.
>As if your senses take the point – shortly, you make a gross, contorted face of your own.
>However, having been naturally apprehensive of Hexferry's rage and irritation, you misjudge the distance, and your squirting genitals do not make their mark.
>In fact, as you reach your climax, the wind picks up from the west and blows the icky human sap messily back onto your pantleg, missing even the ground.
>>
>>30379989
>The crowd seems to grumble in displeasure, even those too young to know quite what was going on understanding a letdown when they see one.
>Prompted by Hexferry trotting off with a 'hmmf!', everyone else slowly walks their separate ways to disperse, all looking disappointed they wasted these minutes on what wound up as nothing.
/Serves them fucking right, the assholes,/ you think to yourself indignantly.
>As the group thins, it turns out that two mares have remained.
>They are of course none other than Goldie and Caramel.
>Caramel has placed a hoof around Goldie's neck and squeezed her close, making a smug, kissy-looking face as if they're a couple.
>Goldie's look remains neutral.
>Really, it could only be worse if they had popcorn to munch on, but apparently there wasn't any left after the showing.
>Caramel speaks. "Say, big boy, you've certainly got OUR attention. Care for a second round?"
>You feel like punching a brick.
>Not that you've had enough martial-arts training to do any damage to it, but the busted hand would do well to take your mind off things.
"No thanks. I think I'm heading to bed."
>Caramel releases her friend, who sways back towards upright, as if no notice had been taken in the first place.
>"Are you sure we can't tempt you? We love a good time."
"This wasn't a good time. For anyone."
>Your statement might as well have come from a holocaust-survivor, based off your tone, which is suddenly unsteady.
>"Well, I think WE had a good time, didn't we Goldie?" Caramel asks, nudging the lithe mare next to her, who now nods with relative enthusiasm.
"I'm glad I could be of service," you say from the side of your mouth, tensely, marching away as you do this, trying not to lose your cool.
>"We're trying to make it up to you!" the reddish-brown mare cries from behind as you hasten your steps.
>You do not respond.
>"At least let us help you with your laundry, Anon! That stuff'll STAIN, you know!"

>>
>>30394007
Do you have a moth in mind? Or will you come up with something generic?
>>
>>30392855
pic related is always relevant especially considering that more of /mlp/ than – say – two years ago seems to think generals are to blame for anything bad that happens here (even though most of this is because both the fandom and also use of imageboards in general have cooled off recently). I mean shit, I've even read anons expressing their >opinions that greentext posts aren't content, which conveys to me that the number of users who are literate and remember as far back as the scruffening or even /co/ has dwindled.

A larger proportion of the people left on the ride now (that is, those who do more than just watch the show) especially those lurking /mlp/ are more likely to be fetishists at this point, and even when mpg produced much kinky stuff, it catered to some fairly specific tastes not all that likely to please your average horsefucker. I think we also used to have more people hanging in drawthread and circulating the idea of moths being awesome, amongst other things such as having an askblog previously.

We're less well-advertised now. Dunno if our regulars are NEET enough to spend time on that sort of shit nowadays 553bh.
>>

I never considered a smoke bomb. Now that I've thought about it, there's loads of stuff you could do. Sleep, calm, uncontrollable laughter (or squeaking), pain killer, hypnosis, etc...

If I go with character stats, which I probably will, maybe angery dust only works on creatures with low intelligence or will? I dunno.

Tell me about Caramel
>>
>>30420540
>who cara
As far as I'm aware, the thread has mostly developed Caramel's personality above all else.

She's kind of a life-of-the-party type who most often hangs around with Goldie and/or Hexferry. She enjoys making fun of other moths (or Anon) and often uses suggestive humor to razz others. Unlike canon Ponk (also a life-of-the-party type) Caramel isn't lol-so-random nor is she the sort who generally considers a party to be a party if there's no wine-bar or other manner of adult beverages available.

Mostly based off of Nips' portrayal of her, I think she's intelligent despite her being fairly socially centric... She's perfectly capable of being thoughtful and listening to others if she feels there's a need to set aside her hobby of poking fun for a second.

Beyond social stuff, her role within the village as a stopover/trading community is less well-defined. If I had to put something down, I would suggest that she maybe bartends and likely helps to host events when Dawn Gleam is not around and Tarkin doesn't feel like it or if either of them need extra help.

If you're lucky, you might see her poledance occasionally if it's a slow night/morning, but if you do, keep in mind it's just as likely to be used as ammunition against you later as it is to be against anyone else present; Caramel isn't really the forgetful type, especially when it comes to her hobby of totally embarrassing folks.

sure is shitposty in here as of the last 12 hours. thanks for the chance to stay on topic for more than 6 words, anon
>>
>>30421037
I'm pretty sure Nips envisioned her as a carpenter, but I don't think that ever actually caught on at all.
>>
>>30421450
Shit, really? She's practically the LAST moth I would've imagined doing something like constructing houses or that. I'd sooner expect Butterscotch or somebody to have much knack for the buildin' thangs.

What other dank memes of threadmas past do you have stored away in that brain of yours, anon?
>>
>>30421582
Gee, Anon, I don't know, this stuff's locked away pretty deep. Things that buried require some kind of impetus to actually remember them.
On a completely different note, if I ever actually get back to making that Final Fantasy Moth game: Bahamoth. So now I feel the need to finish that. Or at least work on it...

Different anon also striving to do content-y bumps here, bro/sis.

I can't speak for the rest of the thread but I want to see it survive and would encourage whatever you want to cook up. I personally check a few times a day to at least make sure we stay buoyed, and post content as often as reasonably possible.

>but will there be a spot for my green?
There's no full guarantees of course, especially in a place like 4chan but if there's more writefagging, discussion, draws, or whatever other content, the thread will be the stronger for it, and therefore less likely to vanish into the mists. If other anons are good on their word, there's some projects underway which we'll hear/see more of eventually. Hopefully soon. Y'hear that, faggots?

Story-wise, I don't know how episodic what you have planned can be worked to be, but maybe write in segments or chapters so you're not creating a whole novel and then having the thread disappear on you before you can post a single damn thing. Some even post to fimfiction in parallel (or with some delay) as a second place to get responses and as a less-tenuous fallback for when threads get swept down the drain. If you do go that route, commission, request, or get permission to use some cute moth-art before the first chapter goes up there. Really seems to help on that site.

>>30424233
>starting a business I guess
>I guess
Don't feel obligated to take the stuffy in-village economylore route for your story if you don't want to. Maybe you know this, but previous story ideas have ranged from following caravans traveling far into Equestria, to activities in other towns including mothfiosos, to adventures deep in the mountains and forests, often with the odd monsters, dragons, plants, and animals of the mothlands thrown into the mix.

That said, I'm ready to fall in love again, anon. Bring what ponies you will.

Depending on her species, she might try to get her dust on you to stir up your sympathetic emotions or your libido. Many moths have specialized spots somewhere on their torso which allow them to release dust/pheromones that get propelled and spread by the wind or the motion of their wings.

Hello, anon. That's a fairly common question we get here. If you're looking on DA at the people who claim to have "invented the fanspecies" or whatever, don't believe any of their lies.

We maintain in the thread that mothponies are (on average) a touch shorter than regular pones but only by an inch or two, and it's been that way for a very, very long time. There's even some (SFW) art on the subject https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=4F2B8082F9ADA593&id=4F2B8082F9ADA593%21544&parId=4F2B8082F9ADA593%21983&o=OneUp which makes things quite clear. In addition the (NSFW >>>/mmpg/) art on the subject in case if you're into that sort of thing https://derpibooru.org/search?q=breezie%2Cmothpony

Oh and welcome to the thread, I guess.
