Well shit, I just heard the dub of This Day Aria. Yeah, Tricks up my Sleeve is a masterpiece in comparison. Bloody hell, does the VA have a hairball in her throat at 1:01? Some of it is OK, some of it is like she's barely trying. A lot of the lyrics don't seem like they've been adapted well to fit the tune either

German dub is pretty good, but not nearly as good as the original. If you know about the backstage shit that Disney (who own the contribution rights in Germany) makes the VAs go through, as well in what short amount of time they produce the dub, it's pretty fucking impressive. My biggest gripes are that ,especially in the earlier seasons, the german versions of the songs are really not nearly as good as the originals and that Applejack had a pretty generic voice in the first season (she has no accent in general, but her VA does a good job because from Se2 upwards she came more into her own).
So in essence dub is good, but original is better.

I don't usually listen to dubs but for whatever reason I listened to Unleash the Magic in Spanish.
When the song switches and goes metal as fuck right before twilight starts singing there is a male choir and they sing with so much more energy than in the English version.

The issue with LA/EU Spanish is exactly the same as USA/UK English, but much more complex in terms of dubbing. The main differences between each dub are:

- Vocabulary: Spaniards use very often local slang in their dubs like "hostias" (shit!) or "tío" (dude), while LA dubbing is a neutral Spanish for easier understanding in the whole continent.

As we're very tied to our own slangs/neutrality, pronounciations and classical translations, our dubbing culture is to make an EU version and a LA version for everything.

MLP has a pretty decent fanbase in Latin America (some countries like Mexico has their own bronycons). EG is more popular, though.

I personally like the portuguese version of "Unleash the Magic", the creative translation of the lyrics made me chuckle and although you can hear the VA's breathing sometimes you can also feel that they put a lot tension in the singing, making the moment itself even ore powerful.

This is why their writing system has all those diacritics; the up and down and curvy marks above letters indicate what to do with the tone of your voice. Are you ironic, right? The hungarian dub is the most horrible garbage i ever heard, it's even worse because it's my native language. Inappropriate voice actors, and terrible translation.

I think the local division of Hasbro didn't even realized the potential of this show, so they just lazily hired the most cheap studio and voice actors to do the translated dub. The episodes are also airing on the most negligible channel ever in a totally fucked up time of the day.

I don't even have any expectation for a quality translation for the upcoming movie either. Maybe if there would be some country nearby where it will be available with the original audio, I'd join to some german/slavbro to watch the film, but I guess I have to rely on the pirate version.

At least you can waltz around here with fully exposed power level, since nobody have any knowledge of the show or the fandom in particular.
