Have you forgotten the end of season 6? It's very heavily implied that Chrysalis openly rejected Thorax's alternative suggestions to satiating changeling hunger because it kept them isolated and better under her control. While it is plausible she actually believed at some point that her preferred method of keeping her species satisfied was the only way to do it, she rejected the idea of even exploring a new method of satiating her species' hunger. That turned her from a victim of biology to another generic despot clinging to power.
