Its why the finale for season 7 won't occur till after the movie. The mane six end up causing the elements to shatter in the S7 finale to defeat the villain and they lose their connection to it permanently. glimmer, Sunburst, thorax, Ember, Trixie and maud take over trying to find the shards and reform them.

Hey guys I'm Meghan McCarthy and let me tell you what. In the S7 finale the mane 6 all become alicorns, except applejack who I don't like. She dies and everyone isn't sad.

Then, fluttershy and discord get married and have a passionate, yet tasteful on-screen breeding session followed by a smoke.

Also Celestia dies and Twilight replaces her but Luna is still there because I really like her angst.
