I honestly don't like it. I wrote a pretty exhaustive autistic rant a few hours ago and I don't feel like writing the whole thing all over again but, in short, this episode essentially confirms that having Glimmer abusing her magic is supposed to be a good thing in-universe, because the map sent her to do exactly that. Every other character sent by the map fucks up, learns something, and solves the original problem, but Glimmer solves the original problem fucking up. That's her thing, that's what she'll always do, she'll never improve, and it's fucking bullshit.
It's not the worst episode of the show, but it's definitely my least favorite episode of the season so far.

Guy who talked to you in the other thread (I think). I wouldn't go that far. We don't know the future until we get there, that's what makes it exciting. You could have said this exact same thing about any of the main cast back in S2, 3 etc. and yet her we are with them all so much further along.

The appeal was it had Celestia and Luna doing stuff that didnt involve them giving exposition or being worf'd to prove a point of how dire a situation is.

However, I agree with the other posters that there are gripes to be had about it. I for one, will continue to maintain that this should have been a Twilight episode. The fact that she IS biased means that this could have been a means of addressing that flaw of hers and "humanize" Celestia and Luna in her eyes.

Glimmer got practically nothing out of this, whereas this would have been a big fucking deal for Twilight if she could have worked through it.

Oh, don't get my wrong, I'm not saying that the episode ruined everything forever. All the implications here are just that, implications, and they won't be a problem in upcoming episodes unless they're confirmed. I'm just saying that I don't like the episode itself.
Portably it's mostly the disappointment speaking, an episode with the Royal Sisters, written by some of my favorite current writers, should have been a 10/10 episode, and it wasn't even close (for me).

See, that was exactly the problem I felt myself running into with the episode. If they were just very old sisters, then I can totally see that - hell, I know sisters in their 80s who still bicker like teenagers.

But the thing is, the Alicorn Sisters are not "just old sisters". They're still living in the aftermath of a betrayal that saw one of them try to murder the other, but instead get imprisoned in the very object she found to be her destiny for an entire millennium - which odds are represents a huge fraction of their lifespan. Meanwhile, the surviving one had to live with what she'd done, see the memory of her beloved younger sister be tarnished and tarred, and manipulated ponies' lives to ensure they would be reunited. That's not the kind of thing you just get over and go back to casual bickering after a couple of years.

Adding on to that, having the frankly unreasonable idea that they had zero time together because of their alternating sleep schedules, and I just couldn't get into the concept of the episode. It felt like deliberately ignoring not one but two elephants in the room for the sake of setting up a "problem".

Siblings "hate" is sort of a given and you sort of walk a razors edge with it, on the good side you can bicker and squabble all you like and you'll still be be inseparable best friends and more likely than not if you find your sibling getting into a fight the very next day after a heated argument you'll probably step in and wreck the other dude's shit
on the other end it can lead to a massive strain and then a snap and then just not bothering to acknowledge them anymore
I feel like Celestia and Luna probably went through this for their whole lives because siblings will always find something to argue over, with Luna's banishment it went the bad way, but now that she's back they're both back to bickering and when together and talking to the mane 6, away from the public eye they're very protective of each other and care about each other, so really I feel like in a strange way it shows that they've decided to let the sleeping dog lie and go back to being sisters rather than awkwardly hold a grudge

If we'd seen them go through that arc of walking on eggshells around each other, eventually fully reconciling, and then going back to that kind of casual sisterly bickering that'd have been cool. Hell, that kind of character development would've been my dream.

But we aren't shown that, and instead the episode presents this fighting as a very real and hefty division to the point they're barely talking to each other. We're seeing something that's 50% first act of that arc, 50% third act, and doesn't know which it should be.
