It's because reformed Glimmer represents what the old Twilight used to be as well as a different take on her at the same time. She has the same proficiency in magic, is studying friendship, moved to Ponyville, etc. but she also has a different background and motive compared to old Twilight's, even their personality and interests are divergent.
If this was S1/S2 Twilight trying to help the princesses with their problem in this episode she would have gone on a slower, research-based route on solving it whereas with Glimmer her solution was based on what she instinctively believed to be the correct method.
