the statue base may be able to repair itself, or just an oversight in the animation dept

headcanon time:
In the EqG universe, the cave that housed the geodes has been there for a VERY long time
it was also at the bottom of a rock quarry
the statue (at least the base) looks to have been made from a single piece of stone
that stone came from the very same rock quarry
that town is certainly not 1000 years old
I think that the Dazzlings had been wandering around the EqG universe for that thousand years until RR
if the portal had been in a fixed location, they SHOULD have been able to go back through when it opened again

I think that the portal that opens up with the mirror used to be free floating until it wandered near the statue soaked in equestrian magic and became anchored to it

as to where the cave is and how that magic got there, I think that it stands at the same point as the Tree of Harmony does in the ponyverse's forest, creating a point that doesn't breach, but is strong enough that magic still seeps through, creating that worlds EoH until they were activated by the events of EqG1 when the Rainbow blast created a magical shock wave that went for at least a couple miles in every direction
