It balances out the fantastical elements. The contrast & interplay between relatable living & magical adventures is a large part of ponies appeal, as it has been for many fictional settings going back decades, if not centuries.
Some prefer the lore eps, some prefer the SoL eps, but both are better for the other's presence. Like peanut butter & chocolate.
