Well not that anon, but I think it's generally accepted that Pencil's writing is the weaker part of the comic.

First off, English isn't his first language so there are occasional grammar mistakes and sometimes the characters speak too formally. "Maud's rubbing on to you" is a good example, since the phrase should be "rubbing off on you". Then Maud's taciturn, so "That sounds most agreeable" is uncharacteristically wordy and formal for her.

Then on a more technical level, Pencils has a difficult time playing his cards. Saying too much and saying too little is a delicate balance. Establishing that humans are often sealed away or went mad is good foreshadowing for this giant stone here, which I'm going to guess is another crazy human and probably not anyone's mother. But that whole section where they said, "Here are the extensive, incontrovertible written records from the time the sun went out and everyone was dead," was not so good. It should have been the overactive imagination of a child extrapolating from the legends, rather than her actually finding records to back all that insanity up.

It's a good comic, and there are things to like about it, but I think writing is its where it struggles the most.
