there's this weird thing that comes on in the canadian broadcasts, i think i read that it's animated in toon boom.

it's gorgeous -- technically. the colors pop and are SUPER fucking vibrant, everything is very detailed and animated very fluidly, it's just the subject is fucking hideous.

if they can polish a turd as well as they do in those shorts with toon boom then i'm eager to see what they can do with mlp.

This pretty much killed the last small bit of hope I was still holding for this movie, which I'm actually pretty bummed about. When Meghan teased this thing I was *really* hoping to finally see some *REAL* animation from the movie. But nope. We get this weird, inside-a-cube 360 thing with very basic "animations" on a static background. Does the art look nice? Yeah, I guess (the background art at least... some of the other art still looks unfinished, ie, the dolphin). But clearly they still don't have enough finished animation to show us anything, just a whole bunch of art assets not in any particular order.

But here's the bigger (biggest?) problem: why seaponies? Why? In what is presumably Hasbro's biggest effort to show FiM/G4 to the world, why have the main characters be transformed into something completely different and honestly off-putting. They just look really weird, like uncanny valley weird, since their seapony models are just the front half of their pony model with a mermaid tail attached. They honestly looked better as Breezies. To make matters worse I was hoping the whole underwater thing was just going to be a small portion of the movie, but it turns out it's the main plot.

And, this means that the animators had to create two sets of animation for each character which I guarantee had an effect on the overall quality of the animation.

Oh well, I'll still watch a cam rip/TS or something.
