Scootaloo is the typical example of a kid whose parents are working all day and don't have time for her nor pay any attention to her personal problems. The characters were ludicrously annoying, most people's reactions to them were unrealistic even for a cartoon, and IMO it didn't end up teaching an effective lesson. They could have saved it if the end was RD saying she appreciated their support but they need to tone it down, and them recognizing that they went overboard. But no, nobody realizes anything, other than a bullshit "RD is all wrong. if someone does something nice for you they are perpetually absolved of all infractions". Err... I was agreeing with you. And I use screw-up in a pretty broad sense. Could mean anything from minor things parents could have done better, to complete fuckups. Point is, IMO in most cases it isn't really intentional. They aren't screwing up with the goal of fucking over their kid. They just don't get that they're doing anything wrong. I know a couple cases of that with my peers. One definitely worse than the other, but still but think they're being Ms Mom of The Decade both both are very clearly making some major mistakes.
