I never understood why some writers think it's a bright idea to have an episode centered around a character being an asshole the entire time. It just makes me feel pissed off by the end of the episode, and this is one of two episodes that I didn't like this season for similar reasons.

The yaks are meant to be comical. After seeing what their homeland is like it's kind of hard to take them seriously as a military threat, assuming they wouldn't resolve their differences via property destruction and pies anyway.
I'm also not a fan of using a character or group of characters as a fall guy for the week's flaw-to-be-corrected. At least this time it wasn't one of the mane 6 acting like a turd.

Headcanon: Yakyakistan is just a principality established near the edge of Equestria. The Yak homeland is somewhere else and if Twilight successfully pissed them off, Prince Rutherford would have gone to his father to enforce a true militaristic response.
