Your eyes crack open as the last vestiges of sleep flee your mind. The first rays of morning light streak into the room. Or, at least they should. Upon further inspection it still appears to be dark. You don't usually wake up this early, and when the rest of your senses come around you find out why. Extremely loud bass is rumbling your entire flat, and your head as well. God damn fucking inconsiderate neighbor. They've never been loud like this before, but the way your housing is, with two units on top of each other, it's gotta be them. Either way you've got work in the morning and this shit has to stop. You roll out of bed and look at the clock. 11:48. A fresh wave of anger rolls over you as you make your way you the door. A short trip down the stairs brings you to their door, where you realise you've never even met your neighbors. You guess you're about to. After some knocking on the door....nothing happens. You switch to pounding on the door with a closed fist, and after about a minute you hear it unbolt. The door swings open, leaving you staring at the top of a white unicorn's head. A wild nest of blue hair sits atop, accented by electric blue highlights. You see her look left and right in confusion, then directly up at you, taking a slight step back. Typical pony reaction to seeing you for the first time.

The music is even louder with the door open, you're both yelling over it.
"CAN YOU TURN THIS SHIT DOWN?"

She whips her head back, firing a short burst from her horn, making the volume drop from skull-splitting to mildly too loud.

"Well I have WORK tomorrow and I gotta sleep."
You see a slight look of frustration cross her face, the little of it not obscured by a huge pair of sunglasses, that is.

Instead of caressing your eyes open after a good night's rest, the morning sun blasts into your eye sockets like a jackhammer. As you finish getting ready for work you run through a variety of ways you'll destroy that mare's life for this injustice. She'll be gone tonight, but tomorrow you'll give her a piece of your mind. You won't let her get off easy next time.

The rest of the day passes without anything eventful happening. You return home and rest, all in blissful silence, almost enough to make up for the previous night. Almost. Hopefully the trend continues, although with the neighbor likely planning on practicing her "craft" tonight, you probably need to intervene. You head down to knock on her door, but there doesn't seem to be a response. You can hear something moving inside her flat, but nobody answers. Figures, her hearing is probably shot. You knock again with a bit more insistence, and hear some grumbling followed by slow steps across the apartment and the unbolting of the door. You're greeted by the same white mare, somehow looking even more disheveled than last time. She's still wearing her shades, albeit slightly askew like they were put on in a hurry.

Her voice cracks, and she's obviously tired and forcing a smile.
"Hey. Just wanted to ask you to keep it down tonight, I really need rest."
She winces a bit at your request. Strange, you weren't being THAT forceful.

"You're still welcome to before 9 PM."

She seems to break down at that, slamming the door in your face and running back into her flat. Well now you feel like an asshole. You can hear the sobs from outside, but you're not sure if you should just leave. You're not totally heartless though, might as well make sure she's at least okay.

You head back up the stairs to your flat and put your plan into action. You rummage through your things and quickly find what you're looking for. Two of the very few objects you had on your person when you came here; a bluetooth speaker and your phone. The DJ said she was looking for inspiration, and everyone always tells you how inspiring human music is, maybe it'll help. You grab your things and head back to her flat. As you pass through her door you see her head pop up from the couch, wearing her sunglasses and a confused and angry expression.

"Just relax, I think you might like this."

She lays back down, out of your sight. You shrug and pull your things out of your bag, along with some ingredients for dinner. Nothing too complex, just an easy salad dish, but a sure favorite. Before you start, you pull out the speaker and put on some music. Again, nothing too complex, but one of your favorites.

You can only see the top of her head over the couch, but as soon as the song starts you can see her ears twitch in the direction of the speaker. Once the song picks up, she sits up completely, tilting her head in the direction of the speaker, looking deep in concentration, you can see the gears in her head turning, examining every note, every beat. Looks like your plan is working. By the end of the song, the DJ's head is bobbing to the beat, it looks like she's starting to enjoy herself.
"Hear something you like?"
She snaps out of her trance and looks at you.

You bring a plate over and sit it on the coffee table, eating your own meal on the other side of the couch.

She picks up the plate with her magic and eagerly starts devouring her portion. And that's how you spend the rest of the evening, sitting in silence listening to your music, interrupted only by the occasional question about artists, songs, or genres. It's strange, usually your first time meeting someone is full of awkward introductions and small talk, but here you are, listening to your music for the better part of three hours, and you don't even know this mare's name yet. Neither of you seem to be complaining, though. It's nice to relax and enjoy some good music. You feel like you and this mare have really connected, with barely any words between you. As the sun hunkers down past the horizon you notice the DJ's eyelids start to hang heavy, her head jerking back and forth as she fights to stay awake. The orange hue of the setting sun casts the apartment in fading light, shimmering off the mare's pure white coat and metallic blue highlights. She's...beautiful. You never really thought of any ponies that way, but you find yourself transfixed by the sight in front of you. She seems to be completely asleep now, the rhythmic rise and fall of her chest it's own sort of song. You quietly get up and gather your things, but pause before going out the door. You walk back to the couch and pull a blanket over the sleeping mare, and go to take off her shades so she doesn't damage them by accident. You jump back in surprise when a hoof comes up and swats your hand away from her glasses. You take that as a cue to leave, softly heading toward the door.

You can't help but smile at her groggy introduction.
"Anon. And it's nothing. Sleep well."
You pull the door shut as softly as you can and head back home to catch up on your own sleep, feeling fulfilled and excited in a way you haven't felt in a long time.

When she lets you go she's blushing even harder, which is only further accentuated by her sterling white coat.

You're convinced that if someone doesn't like that song, they're not worth associating with. You continue tearing through your favorites as you meander about the expansive network of foot paths and trails Ponyville has to offer. Through the park, around town square, you don't have any particular destination, you're just enjoying exploring with good music and good company. You occasionally make small talk and share stories, mainly over a pit stop for lunch where playing music wouldn't be very appropriate. Vinyl's got a great sense of humor, as it turns out, and her laugh is adorable. Having originally wanted some peace and quiet from your obnoxious neighbor, now you've spent almost two entire days with her. It's funny how life works sometimes. As you finish your meal, you catch a few strange glances from passers-by, but Vinyl doesn't seem to notice, and you're already used to it.

Much to your surprise, Vinyl leans over and lays her head on your shoulder, but only for a second. She pulls away and scoots further from you once she comes to her senses.

You cut her off as you grab her around the chest and pull her back to your side.
"You're fine, Vi."
She lays back on your shoulder again, letting out a deep, contented sigh. You're not entirely sure what to make of all this, but a cute marshmallow horse lying on your shoulder isn't something you're opposed to.

The sunbeams skipping off the pond paint the whole scene in a mirror as you relax to the rhythm of Vinyl's breathing against your side, a subtle cadence in the background of your music. You watch the first stars burst through the curtain of the approaching night as your speaker runs out of battery, offering a few final notes of a song before shutting off, leaving the two of you in silence, the crickets taking over the background in its absence.
"Best day off I've had in a while."

You notice Vinyl walking somewhat apprehensively, like she's measuring every step she's taking.
"You able to see okay at night with those glasses on?"
>"Y-yeah, just fine. Why?"
"Just making sure."
The rest of the walk home is silent, each of you engrossed in your own thoughts. So enamored, in fact, you don't even notice you've already arrived at your destination.
>"Hey, you want to hang out for a little bit longer? I've got some cider I've been wanting to get into."
Normally you'd go to bed way earlier than now, especially with work tomorrow, but for once you actually want to stay up late.
"Sure, why not?"
Vinyl cracks a smile and leads you up to her flat.
