I'm liking the new Canterlot art for the movie.

...Where's the city itself? All I see is a castle.
>>30113279
Look at the background. It's actually somewhat of an improvement of the original artwork. That was just a castle.
>>30113279
it's offscreen
and fuck you, it's for little girls

Another premiere concept.

>>30113279
I have to say I prefer the movie version.
>>30113351
It looks like an actual city now
>>30113351
Is Ponks opening her own bakery in Canterlot?
That would be some decent character development to see that she is finally leaving the cakes restaurant.
>>30113265
Now it looks like Minas Tirith
>>30113351
Looks much bigger in the movie than the show.
>>30113387
I believe that's what Faust had in mind when she first drew Canterlot.
>>30113265
Nice. It's more coherent and better thought out, and is in my opinion an improvement over the original.
I especially like the huge plaza in front of the castle for holding speeches and as a public marketplace. It's a good city-defining feature that makes sense. Celestia would probably want a big plaza outside her window. Judging by some episodes, I think there might even be one in the show as well.
I would have liked to see more vegetation though, especially with the waterfall running through the city and the tree Twilight is reading under in the pilot, in the pilot there's life and vegetation almost everywhere, while most of what we see of Canterlot after the pilot is very sterile and lifeless, with cobbled streets and marble towers, and only the occasional isolated park.
I mean, this is an improvement in that area as well, as there's at least some vegetation around the castle and in the background, but I think they could have gone even further.
>>30113351
I'm really liking the movie version except that it doesn't have taller and taller spires as it gets farther from the mountain side like the show version has.
There was this shot in this season's premiere.
>>30113351
the movie version makes much more sense. Looks like an actual city from the outside.
>>30113351
>>30113428
If all the art in the movie is that good it might actually be good.
The writing and anthro cats/parrots though...
>>30113265
It's literally shit.
I prefer the more traditional drawing in the show
>>30113351
>AJ in the lower left corner
>This is fine.jpg
>>30113293
The original Canterlot concept was based on Faust's childhood experience when she had the MLP castle playset perched on top of her dresser while she played with ponies on the floor.
I like the movie's take on it, but the lack of tall spires really takes out a lot of the surreal magical quality of it.
>>30113437
If MLP:FiM was Final fanatsy the show version would be what it looked like on the overworld while the movie one would be the actual thing.
>>30113351
What's this?
>>30113445
Most of those designs were by Dave Dunnet who also worked on Foster's and was also layout supervisor on Disney's The Little Mermaid.
>>30113453Canterlot gets rekt literally 5 minutes into the movie.
>>30113445
What are you even trying to get at with alternative facts like these? I don't get your motive here.
Here's what Faust ACTUALLY has to say regarding Canterlot's original concept:

>>30113461
Also He-Man.
>>30113453
Background characters often appear several times in the same scene.
But does it have double gate houses and murderholes?
>>30113265
Supposedly, Lauren Faust modeled Canterlot after Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings. So yeah, big white marble castle-city perched on the side of a mountain. The movie version does seem to do her vision more justice.
>>30113476
>>30113453
It's telling that even the animators and background artists consider AJ as a background pony by the way they consistently use her in layout tests.
>>30113476
>>30113265
Fuck off hasdrone, the original design that Mom create will always being better and canon than any other design
>>30113506
>implying Faust did all that by herself
Educate yourself.
>>30113453
The Zebra district.
>>30113506
Could you rephrase that in English, please?
>>30113265
>>30113351
I can't say it's good. It looks more like they slapped as many randomly designed similar buildings together instead of actually try and design what a street would look like.
And the walls look more tacked on than actually apart of it.

Fallout Equestria: the movie
From what I can dig up, the movie's art direction is handled by Rebecca Dart who was also art director for S5.
Some artists that seem to be involved with the movie are:
-Michael Humphries (big name, The Lion King, Hunchback of Notre Dame, also worked on original MLP)
-Joe Binggeli (Dan VS. Batman Beyond, Ghostbusters, lots of stuff)
-Joey Mason (Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. Green Lantern Animated Series).
>>30113265
I bet that art book is gonna be really nice given all this art we've seen so far.

>>30113651
I hope I can get it here in Europe. Haven't found anywhere I can preorder all the movie stuff aside from the IDW prequel comics.
>>30113690
The movie still be a flop.
>>30113436
Depending on the writing and animation, the movie could be the dark horse of this fall to be honest.
The only nitpick I've got for now is the design of pony's front face, I don't know how to say it but it just looks too doll-ish for me.
>>30115164
>people are still forcing le ebin "moovee will flop u guise ecksdee" maymay
Really shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch, faggot.
>>30116183

>>30113556
Sure ,Neckbeard.
>>30113279
I think it is just meant to be the area outside the castle. I guess they cleared all the plants.
>>30113351
If it looks completly different doesn't that make the movie non canon. Either that or they are demolishing and rebuilding it.
I always like to be reminded that Canterlot was based on Minas Tirith.
It's a reminder of the sort of grand wonder that was part of FiM's origins, and that we all felt when the show was just starting out. It feels like there's not much in the newer seasons that draws inspiration from Tolkien.
>>30117092
If that logic were applied to say, comic books, everything but the first issues by the first hired artist would be canon.
>>30117415
imo Minas Tirith +Neuschwanstein.
>>30115164
Thomas & friends is still a shitty show for mentally damaged tards like you.
>>30117887
>tfw you visit that place and see the interior
Opulent as fuck.
>>30117092
They did warn us that it WILL feel like a movie, not a long episode. Just because they had more money invested into it does not mean it's not canon.
>>30113690
>I hope I can get it here in Europe.
Depends on country. But I wouldn't hold my breath, since when they released pokemon movies none of them were shown here.
>>30117938
>comparing ayynime releases and US cartoons releases
>>30117906
Shut up! They still make new characters in every season, you faggot idiot!
>>30117415
Instead we've gotten some actual originality and creativity though. Not all of it good, of course, but that's the price you try to create wonder instead of just copying what's popular.

I like the whole thing they've got going on with districts being on separate platforms.
spike looks so good thou
>>30113279
All you need is a castle.
>>30113351
Where did you get these? Are they real?
Do we even know the budget of this movie?
>>30121941
Higher than Equestria Girls, that's all I heard, and I've never seen a verifiable source.
But it wouldn't surprise me, what little animation we've seen looks a lot better than Equestria Girls.
>>30121574
They're from the toy fair in February iirc.
>>30113265
Why?
