That's because almost all the "horsefamous" people were already involved in other areas that involved actually being extroverted and showing themselves in public (youtubers, live streamers, podcasters, music people who did live shows), and they all just realized that MLP was a massive fanbase that they could easily take advantage of to manipulate and monetize. True there are some that grew solely through MLP, but I'd say the majority were already known for doing something else, and MLP was just a convenient way for them to get more attention and make more money.

As for the whole neckbead thing, I know 3 other MLP fans IRL: Two are absolutely neckbeards (one of whom lives with his parents), and one is a crazy Trump supporter that I haven't talked to in years. He was weird and spindly, though admittedly clean-shaven. As for me, I "look" fairly normal if slightly below average, I'd say I'm a 4/10 (not overweight so that's a start, and I try to shave regularly), BUT, I have a shitload of mental issues to make up for it, so, yeah that's 0/4 in terms of "normal" people. But that's just my experience obviously.

It's not just ponies I'm talking about. Ponies merely opened the door for this behavior. Before 2010, before ponies, there was this general understanding that if you got mad at something, you were an idiot. People knew to ignore what they didn't like. Sure, if someone posted 'The Game' you'd over-react, but it was all jokes. It was meant to be funny.

To troll someone you had to trick them into clicking a link to Lemon Party, or a youtube video of Rick Astley, or deleting system 32. You had to make an elaborate six picture combo to a shitty pun. You had to put in fucking effort. It was a better time. And then Faust released ponies, and people got irrationally mad at them, and people realized they didn't need to put in the effort anymore. They could just post a pony and everyone would react, genuinely. Then ponies were banned, but we were out of the cave at that point. We couldn't go back to watching shadows. So now trolling consists of someone posting a picture of something 4chan generally hates and drowning in 'le bait' pictures.

It's fucking awful. The only screencaps 4chan make anymore are witty one-post quips or exaggerated stories.
