As for the wasteland timeline we don't have enough information on what happened there to provide a clear picture of who was at fault. Maybe Celestia snapped and burnt the continent, maybe Tirek succeeded in his plot. Who knows

I made a point a few days ago that Fluttershy (and maybe Ponk) would actually make for BETTER alicorns than Twalot.
Basically 7 Seasons in and we still know sweet fuck all about how exactly alicorns work. Lauren never nailed anything down and nobody's bucked the trend since. The closest we've gotten to genuine insight is that a magical prodigy studying friendship under an established alicorn princess is eligible for alicornhood herself, and Starlight fits those exact specifications. The other 5 don't know much about magic or have a great thirst for academia, they're driven by more humble or personal ambitions.

Luna (her only episode) was just frustrated because everyone already saw her as evil, despite being reformed, and she couldn't understand why, so she got rid of the thing they thought they were mocking her with. Hardly evil.

Glimshit used magic to control her friends, almost fucked up the world in her "redemption" arc, and has pretty much been a character that everyone else is okay with, for no real reason. Dude, the staff was literally just a stick of wood, she even said it herself. It was COMPLETELY non-magical.

What annoys me is that, from a dynamic standpoint, her raw magical power MIGHT have been acceptable if they'd set her up as being basically a magical retard, in contrast to Sunburst, like two halves of a coin.
Like, she would have zero magical knowledge or control, and would need someone else to explain how to do stuff or help her out when using her magical abilities, in contrast to Sunburst being Unable to apparently cast virtually any magic but being a magical genius.

So she'd be the brawn and he'd be the brains, both of them utterly worthless on their own, but great together as a team.
However, its been shown that not ONLY is she incredibly powerful at magic, she's also fucking incredibly smart at it too, since she can effortlessly combine spells to make new ones, knows magical theorum and can teach others how to do stuff.
She's more or less better at magic, in both knowledge AND power, than twilight herself!
